Breaking a multigenerational trend is no small feat! Sharing your story to help others is admirable. I'm old enough to be your father, and if I were him, I would be proud of the man you are today! God Bless! The gift of faith is forever offered, I hope someday that you accept it.

The quickest way to experience true sobriety, is to STOP trying to STOP DRINKING. Alcohol is NOT the root problem!..."Self" is the root problem! How do I know?...because I tried every "half measure" known to mankind. Sound familiar? There is no need for me to tell you anything more about my drinking life. What IS crucial, is "what happened", and "what it's like now". What happened was I could no longer live with the guy in the mirror. He had to pack his shit and go. That is the moment I began to recover. If you want to know where sobriety begins and ends, look down at your feet. Live differently...or die! Mark 5/8/1994 ✌❤

What really resonated for me in your earlier post is the idea that another personality in me - made in the past at an influential early age - is the one craving booze and not me the adult. The 14 year old (at the time) was mixing with older people in a climbing and caving club. And they drank and I was the young 'apprentice' climber wanting to be like them. So, your technique allows me to identify the 14 year old craving to be an adult and just say "hey your function is no longer needed, by bye, I'm all grown up and I call the booze shots".....it really works for me so thanks heaps for the technique, you've made a difference!

This gives me so much joy to hear this, Monty_NSW! The mind is an incredible yet baffling thing, isn't it?

My alcoholic personality is an old fowl mouthed cowboy that wants whisky and cigarettes. Mind you I'm a woman...lol but i definitely do not feel like the same person once I've drank too much. Feel like fighting too. I no longer drink like i used to...especially whiskey. I've changed my ways.

Totally love your brilliant question -- he wants to drink, but do I? Love the mindfulness genre as an overall approach to this stunning meeting with life. I quit drinking 24 yrs ago -- spontaneous recovery sorta while on a high with a new boyfriend. I just said I'm done with this and I was // never craved -- I know I was headed to alcoholism, was out of control -- a problem drinker who went to work more and more Mornings in the 90s with bad hangovers towards the end there -- I stopped just in time --- thanks for a very smart video

Quitting was one of the hardest things I've ever done, but it is possible. Do everything you can to stop. 12 steps, phone calls, accountability partners, hypnosis, counseling etc. What works for one person may not for the next so keep trying. If you slip, don't beat yourself, just get right back into your sobriety. You can do this.

I think you are really judgemental about your father . My son feels the same way. He quit drinking. Why won’t siblings accept their fathers as is. Maybe you should have taken him out more like to a baseball game. Why do we need to be your definition of not drinking? Another thing you got wrong. You say you didn’t have a life line when you sabotaged your jobs and/or career. Your dad and mom were always there for you and you knew it. You milked their love for you. You abused yourself and your relationship with them. Bottom line is you were lazy. You drank because you were too lazy to quit and become a man. You had mommy and daddy and now you are condescendingly spiritually elevated about all your family. You don’t lose yourself because someone dies. I’ve lost brothers dads and mothered, aunts and uncles. We all have. Can’t whine about it then drink over it and act like you are unique. Get therapy if you feel you need it. Just stay away from building a career around your past immaturity for drinking or taking mushrooms . We all did that. Just be yourself and be an adult. Thanks good luck.

It sounds like you carry around a lot of pain about your relationship with your son. I hope you can find peace with that one day. However, you are projecting your frustrations with him onto me, a person you don't know. You cannot possibly surmise my relationship with my parents based off of a condensed sober story. But you are right about a few things. For one, I am absolutely not unique in that I have lost loved ones nor because I have battled addiction, and that is exactly the point of making this video. I have been terribly selfish and entitled in this life. I have hurt people, may parents included, both of whom I love more than anything. I carried around that guilt and shame for an embarrassingly long time. To speak it out loud is to let it go and to show others who also feel that pain that they too can find it in themselves the strength to do the same. I do not blame my father for my problems. He did the best he could. And while I thank you for the advice to stop helping other people with their sobriety, I say absolutely not. Best of luck to you, sir.

@@TheAlcoholicPersonality-zx4cu Thank you for responding. I realize I can never influence your thinking. Obviously I have issues with my son. Best of luck to you too and by the way there is no alcoholic personality. Don’t make this temporary alcohol use problem become your life’s work. Let it go and just make a life without the brainwashing. Take care.

@@rickjones1277 Thank you for the best wishes! However, I respectfully disagree with the notion that there is no alcoholic personality. There is loads of research, especially in the field of multiplicity, that say yes, there is an alcoholic personality. Many people, much smarter than I, believe that our brains are far more complex than we think it is. It's not brainwashing, its science.
