For the vast majority of amateur golfers out there these tips are golden! Rather than following the latest 'tip' from the big RU-vid channels, which are guaranteed to ruin your game, follow this and you will definitely improve. Good work Rob. Nice to see some refreshening content which focuses on age old basics (that even tour pros still do).

The 9 to 3 drill with impact stickers or spray on my irons into a net. Stay wide, find the middle of the face. Plus read and practice Dan Grieve's 'The 3 Releases '. Putt every other night with putting Dotz on the face.

I think this video has just saved me a year or two on becoming scratch. I’ve recently started my journey on actually focusing on getting better at golf and getting to scratch and am actually in a bit of a rut since I’m trying out so many different swing thoughts and tips. This video has given some clarity and shown a simple direction for what to work on! Thank you very much 👍

Just pure coincidence I bumped into this video. It is exactly what I needed Rob. Great vid. if I may answer your question about other useful drills I would recommend the pause and hit drill you showed in this video but than pause just after take away (only after shoulder turn and arms / hands still passive). Than finish backswing and just make your swing (purpose is transition and weight shift). Together with your drills are the only drills I will stick to this season. The Tiger grid I also really like together with "Playing holes" on the range (i.e. changing clubs all the time which is what you do in course). ps. Am 5.4 hcp but working to become steady 4.0 end of this season after a lost season last year due to injury caused by speed training.....

Great content! My favorite two drill are: setting up in impact position (as you assume it to be..) and hitting half shots just from there. Second: 3/4 swings with abbreviated follow through. Both drills dramatically improve impact, compression and are ideal, when you lose your swing for any reason. They fix it all. (10 hcp).

Thanks for the useful tips - the deliberate pause at the top of the backswing is money to train what I believe is the hardest part of the golf swing will definitely try the ball flight grid next time I’m practicing 👍🏽 I really liked your video on your golf journey and rediscovering your love of the game after falling out of love with it- it helped reframe my own golfing journey and gain perspective!

First time you have ever appeared on my recommended feed. What a fantastic video. I was a 10.9 handicap this time last year, I've struggled to get it down over the last 12 months I'm now 10.7 even though I've played so much golf. I've tried a million things to stop myself from pulling most of my shots left which i never used to do. I seem to be contacting the ball with a slightly closed club face which doesn't mix well with my natural draw and its been really getting me down. Definitely going to try some of your ideas and think the slowing it down will help. I'm going to do the free trial on your friends website. I'm now subscribed to your channel.

First time seeing your content and I must say I love your style of presentations. You have the vibe of a friendly, helpful friend at the range just wanna help another fellow golfer. I'll definitely give these drills a go, especially the pause at the top as I have a tendency to rush my transition. As for my favorite drill, I like Jchowgolf's drill where you take the club back just parallel to the ground, pause and try to hit it as hard as you can. A) It forces me to use my legs and hip to move the club. B) Doing it at slow tempo also teaches ball striking because the abbreviated take-back highlights what the hands are doing from the slot to impact.

Rob is back!! Great video - I love the suggestion that the equipment constraints of heavy clubs for kids forces them to use the bigger muscles to swing the club. Glad to see your return to making content! 1st comment, more puppers in the intro. Saw him chilling in the back 🐕 As far as drills go, working on hitting a spot with the bottom of the club helped me & my daughter out when learning to use the bounce of the wedge for certain chip shots. Can be done on the carpet while watching videos. Yielded big results in only a few minutes a day being more consistent with the know with knowing where the bottom of our swings are. Great video!

Welcome back Rob. I like to break my practice into sets of 20. 20 with wedges, 20 on technique, 20 on performance (like the 9 box grid stuff) then 20 with Driver. Stops me from machine gunning. If I’m pushed for time I have a shorter routine involving 3,6 and 9 feet putting hole 3 and move back. 5 chips and hole out from progressively harder positions. Then 30 on the range.

Big fan of the Tiger 9 shot drill. I do that at the driving range when I get there. Not always successful with all the shots but you improve your clubface control and learn about what shots you can take to the course and which ones you find more difficult. Also start all my practice sessions with 20 odd wedges to different targets/ distances. Been doing it for a few years and seen huge improvements in my wedge game. I don’t make any big changes to my swing now. Not got the time or the inclination. Would much rather find out what works best for me through hitting different ball flights and being creative.
@petel3366
@petel3366 7 месяцев назад
Rob! You’re back! I’ve watched your swing for years now. If there’s one thing I don’t see in your swing is that subtle move towards the target thus moving the low point of the swing so hitting ball then ground. You always look like your timing is key to your swing rather than the mechanics. You’ve often mentioned the fat and thin shots- I think it’s because you try to remain very centered. But you do need just an inch of forward movement to get the club ahead of the ball at the bottom else you’re always going to cast at it right at the last minute. Tell me to do one but I genuinely think it’s the only thing missing in your swing.

Rob great vid. Nice to see some new content from you. The alignment stick against the lead hip is hands down the BEST drill I've ever been shown. It drastically reduced my handicap last year and I warm up with it at every range session now. It's great for keeping the hands and arms connected and feeling like the swing is made from the core instead of the arms and hands. How hard is the Tiger stop at the top drill?? Many a driving range shank when I was first doing that one. Keep up the good work 🙌

Great stuff- I recently got pain in my right wrist kinda RSI- was at the same time I was working on better rotation and getting the left hip back at impact. As a result I needed to quieten my hands. For me: the one handed ones you showed - plus a bonus version of these where you throw a ball down the target line throwing it downwarda about a foot in front (really hard with the left hand). The Tiger drill you showed. The 'Jon Rahm drill' hold the club at parallel in backswing and try and hit a full shot. The 'Justin Rose drill' - practice dropping the club behind you from top of backswing, with back to the target, do some pumps of this then rotate through. Didn't really understand the towel drills otherwise great video!

Rob what is the towel drill trying to achieve? I've watched this a few times and you are passionate about it but I think I'm missing the point. Sorry and thanks saved this vid.

I didn't explain the towel drills very well. Have a watch here (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE---bQcsZ2eRw.html) or here for the full lesson: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7AK5HJb5bmU.htmlsi=d8yA6b_wkpEndkzC Or Liam's site is even better: tourgolfnetwork.com

The things that really helped me in improving my handicap were: 1. only work on one swing thought at a time and video almost every swing in practice while working on technique as feel is most of the time very far away from real. Otherwise you think you tried the swing thought and it seemed to not work, but video shows you were only thinking you did it. Real swing changes feel drastically different. 2. know your average distances for each club (where 4-6 of 10 balls end up) and don’t make a club choice on the basis on the one miracle shot you hit once with this club 3. know that most trouble is ahead of the green 4. most of the time aim for the middle of the green and thereby avoid big numbers on holes.

What's the purpose of the towel drill?

I really need to work on that pause drill at the top as I’ve gotten so quick in the transition. But I think it’s from lack of flexibility - after a hiatus from the game, my flexibility is shot.

I honestly think lots of practise at 100 yards-in would do the job. get good at that and I defy anyone to score badly

100 percent. All golfers that I’ve met who are single or better all have varying capabilities of short game within 100 and they are all good.

@scottstorm7765 totally. I hate how so many people just say "work on 100 yards and in" it's not all about the short clubs - if you can't keep a ball in play it doesn't matter how good your wedges are. I'm pretty good with my short clubs and I've scored badly many times with poor play off the tee

The best in the world work on the same things all the time, day after day... hackers like me try a different thing as soon as they hit one bad shot. I've tried really hard through the winter to tell myself what I can do to play decent golf this year and I've been hitting it well off the mat. Hit a few balls on a soggy golf course last week and my confidence is shot to bits 😂

100% right mate, we all know it but so easy to fall into the trap of dancing around different things constantly. Courses are unforgiving at the moment - my short game at the weekend was a car crash!

@@RobMcGarr I had my best improvement when I played lots of winter golf and didn't go to the range so much. You soon improve when you're trying to hit out of a bog!

Thats what I am always missing from coaches: do this 3 times, then that, then x. There is usually no advise how you actually should practise, just for example "do one hand swings" and they show you how, but not down to the real practise. Thank you for this.
