Great video!! I really appreciate how simply you describe how to do it. Also, I adore your death hawk!! My only correction for you is this: (I'm a licensed cosmetologist) I promise you are putting way more stress on your hair and causing a lot more damage & breakage by doing this with wet hair. Hair is a fabric that's very delicate. When the hair is wet it is way more stretchy, so when you put tension on it when you're braiding, it will be 90% more likely to cause breakage as the hair dries and shrinks back to its normal length.

+Leah Heart I actually just heard about this, thank you for commenting!! I'm gonna try doing an install with dry hair next time, but honestly, if it's too difficult for me I'll continue installing with wet hair. But fingers crossed I get the hang of it. :) (P.S. Everyone else reading comments, read this one!)

That's smart that you wet the hair cuz when wet it's stretches and shrinks when dry, so that would tighten and make a more secure install. Have you ever tried the blanket stitch?. I was thinking about pulling the left over ends threw a crimping bead and pulling crimping link bead inside of dread with crochet needle to hide it. I'm going to try it..no one has done it yet. Good video doll.

I actually have multiple questions 1) Would the sets you buy be enough to for a whole head of hair with no shaved sides? Or do you think it'll take 2 sets to do the whole thing? 2) Can you keep these in for as long as you'd like? Is there specific time where you might need to take them out? 3) From your personal experience, what is the favourite set of dreads you've had so far? Awesome Video BTW, You have solved my problem with being unable to have actual dreads, definitely subscribed.
@ch527kerosene
@ch527kerosene 8 лет назад
+Vincent Coulson 1) Nope, I buy half sets. You could get two half sets, of course, but otherwise you'd need full sets. Those are more common anyway. 2) It's all personal preference. Some leave them in for 2 days, others go for 6 weeks, and others still go for longer. I usually do 3-5 weeks, based on outgrowth of my natural hair and the overall neatness of the dreads. 3) Hmm, that's a tough one. I'm pretty fond of my first set, honestly. But I really love the one from Sammii's Synthetics. I hope those helped! Let me know if you have any more questions :)

+zaneybat It's tricky but I kinda tilt my head forward I guess? Sorry that's super not helpful. The first time I did it, it took some practice and time, but if you get the process down it gets easier. Also I'll braid with my hands behind my head first until I can't, then I bring the braid to the side and braid with my arms in front of me. If that makes sense.

@delaneym.7412
@delaneym.7412 7 лет назад
Nerdy Raindrops people do make dreads of varying thickness. I know Samii's Synthetics makes thin dreads (forget what she uses to compare but it is quite small) to thick dreads (about sharpie marker thickness). My friend Rachel has very short hair, I think about three inches and she doesn't have any trouble. You should be just fine either way.

how many dreads does it take to do your hair? I'm trying to figure out how many to buy 😂
@kayT101
@kayT101 7 лет назад
Tiera Hutson it depends how thick your hair is and it's texture. I have very thick curly hair, but the individual strands are very smooth so it's slippery. It took 40 double ended dreads for just the top of my head. Most "full set" double ended dreads are 40-50 pieces, folded, so 80-100 ends. Single ended would be 80-100 for a "full set " You may need more though, so consider that when buying.

Sorry if I sound stupid, however, won't you see the band on the dread? Does that not alter the look?
@delaneym.7412
@delaneym.7412 7 лет назад
Sophie Cooper being able to see the band is really a matter of preference. You can use whatever bands you want, have them match the color of the dread or the color of your hair, or you can use clear bands which I don't recommend because they're very fragile for some reason.

Silly question from a person who's never done synth dreads but may try it out, have you ever done a sectioned dread look (like bottom section dreads, top section natural hair)? I'd like to know if it's possible or if natural loose hair will snag on the dreads, or if it depends on the dread composition, etc.

+Ellie & Jazlynn I'm not an expert and this is just based on my opinion, but: Synthetic looks more realistic, is easier to wash, drys way faster, isn't the softest ever, and has good volume. Wool is very soft/comfy, way lighter, sheds like a mf, gets pill-y, takes forever to dry (w/o blow drying), and is generally cheaper but not always. There are other pros and cons, so I suggest asking around more and doing more research. In terms of "unraveling," I've seen poorly-made synthetic dreads unravel fast while wool dreads don't exactly unravel in the same way. But they get kinda . . . weird looking. Fuzzy and stuff, like wool clothing gets. Of course they can be maintained and get back to looking like new, though. I hope that helped! Btw check out Tina Tiainen on youtube for info on wool dreads.

Ellie & Jazlynn Check out the facebook group Dreadlock Kingdom. That's where I've found all my sellers. Also read this blog, it's super helpful for buying dreads: www.impandpetal.com/blog/buyers-guide-to-synthetic-dreads-segment-2-finding-the-right-artist

Would they work without a death hawk? I don't want to get that but I want the dreads. If they do would they look right on a full head of hair???
@delaneym.7412
@delaneym.7412 7 лет назад
Katelyn Witherby they look just fine on a full head of hair. Naturally is does look different but don't feel like you have to shave a good part of your head if you want to have dreads. It really is just a matter of style preference though.

It depends on the material! Wool dreads are very light, but synthetic ones can get heavy sometimes.

Are synthetic better or wool...can you wet them...I'm trying to put some on for the. first time...how long do u keep them in... are they reuseable or no...I'm new to this but also they are a little pricy... what do you recomend...please help thank you your awesome
@ch527kerosene
@ch527kerosene 8 лет назад
+Ivonne Quevedo Both can get wet, both can stay in for up to 6 weeks (or longer, if you want), both are reusable. Synthetic look more realistic, but are heavier when dry and are less comfortable. Wool is lighter, softer/more comfortable, and generally cheaper, but are wayyy heavier when wet (and take longer to dry) and then the wool "pills" (gets fuzzy). There are pros and cons to both; the big question is what you want them to look like. Also there are re-sale groups on facebook where you can find them for cheap! Hope that helped :)

+ch527kerosene yes this is very help full maybe you could make a vedio on this and post some of the websites you know of...well because I don't have face book 😲haha but it would be help full...and honestly I think I like the wood look better...and so when the only offer 20 and it's not enough for a full head set what do u do or how do you do to place them?
@ch527kerosene
@ch527kerosene 8 лет назад
If the maker only offers 20, maybe ask if they can make more? A full set is usually 35-45 dreads. If you don't have facebook, then etsy would be the way to go for buying them. And I think there are forums and websites for finding more info.

when you buy your dreads do you buy them in pairs or just one by one? and i also have a deathhawk how many do i have to buy?
@ch527kerosene
@ch527kerosene 8 лет назад
I buy them in sets, generally 20-30. You'd probably want at least 30 to start, unless they're thin then you'd need 40 or more.

Does your hair have to be a certain length to wear these?? Also my hair is really curly should I still wet my hair to out them in??
@ch527kerosene
@ch527kerosene 8 лет назад
+Vanessa Olivencia I've seen them installed on hair as short as 3 inches. And installing on wet hair is not recommended since it can tighten and cause breakage/discomfort. But you can use a small amount of wax or gel to make the hair easier to manage when braiding. But try doing it on just dry, clean hair first!
@LifelessStar
@LifelessStar 8 лет назад
+ch527kerosene thanks :) I color my hair too so anything to help with less breakage is awesome I work in a hair salon and we have a redken product called braid aid which helps smooth hair when braiding so I'll probably try that :) also do they get hot?? I'm saving up to get some dreads but I probably won't have them until the summer
@ch527kerosene
@ch527kerosene 8 лет назад
***** They're not too bad! Having them in sections actually increases airflow to the scalp (which sounds so weird lol) so I haven't had any problems with it :p

Hello does anybody have a good brand of rubber bands, I spent four days installing my dreads and the day after the installation the bands are breaking. Which is frustrating. I used goody black bands, and the an unknown brand of colored ones, from the dollar store. Any suggestions ? Thank you I'm advanced

Your natural hair curls almost exactly like mine does in the middle of my head. I have 3 or 4 different textures of hair. I get some ringlets in the front and the middle back of it, I have wavy/curly in some other areas, and the under part in the back has almost no curl at all. It's annoying. I like your vids, by the way. I wish I worked a job where I could be at liberty to dress and do my hair in crazy styles. Boooooo!
