coulda shoulda woulda is probably the biggest financial lie we tell ourselves. The reality is for every Apple, Microsoft, NVDA people miss out on, there are at least 1000 other stocks that don't do nearly as well and make people more broke in the process. Most people do not have the financial expertise to buy individual stocks to outperform generic ETFs like the S&P and QQQ. In additional to actually doing due dilligence, you also have to beat the machines (algos, hedge funds, market makers) on wallstreet that can easily manipulate price. Its not worth the time (or money) for most people
