Pro tip: Most hot glues can be removed from most surfaces (wood, plastic, metal) using Isopropyl-alcohol. Just make sure you put it around the edges and wait a couple minutes. (If you can, it works even better if you can inject something between the hot-glue and the surface, e.g. by using a syringe)
@tel0004
@tel0004 Год назад
Also, if you want to mount a power strip with screws, use masking tape, or painters' tape. Tape it to the back of the power strip. Poke holes in the tape where the mounting holes are. Then peel the tape off, and tape it where you want to mount the strip. Drill through the holes, remove the tape. Its faster, and much easier.

The 3M command strips that use the interlocking plastic pegs instead of normal hook and loop (marketed for mounting heavier artworks/framed photos to walls) work exceptionally well for mounting power bricks (even large ones) to furniture. The trick is to orient the strips so that the long dimension runs along the axis of gravity. I've done this for years and nothing has ever fallen off, yet it is a cheap locally available product and easy to remove later. The main flaw is that they are not re-usable once removed.

@@ollianddelphine Not really, imagine the battery in your phone as a great example of a LiPo battery that charges in a very enclosed and warm space. The main issue is a false sense of security. Battery enclosures are supposed to prevent a fire from spreading for specified amounts of time so that fire alarms can sound and allow for evacuation. Generally, for real battery enclosures, this will get you 90 minutes of time when exposed to ordinary open flame and can resist battery explosions/lithium fires to keep their effects inside the cabinet. I think the dumb part about it is there are cheaper and better solutions. Those two boxes ran him $50 USD, safer (but not preferred over real cabinets) lipo storage can be had way cheaper and will actually help give you time to deal with battery fires.

For your DIY battery case thing you have you should buy one of the fire ball extinguishers. I forget the name but it's literally a ball and when it's thrown into a fire it turns into a foamy liquid that removes the oxygen from fires and sits on top of chemicals to eliminate at least two contacts from the fire tetrahedron. It's super awesome I have one sitting next to battery farm and it saved my house when a car battery I was charging literally blew up in my garage. It did almost no damage to the garage there is just carbon scorching on the a small section of the wall.

I really like that the magnets are strong enough to hold the bar while plugging/unplugging. Neither screws or 3M tape are great solutions. 3M tape works but either fails after a few months, doesn't stick at all, fails when plugging/unplugging, or is super strong but is excruciating to take off. Screws are fine unless you accidently shift the power strip, and then it just falls. So this is a cool solution. I'd just be interested to see how difficult the plate that they attach to is to come off if I wanted to move the power strip.

@@veryboringname. I prefer the cable to safely pop off if there is strong enough lateral pull, I did damage a phones port once years ago when I was in a hurry and ripped the phone while charging. Everyone has different needs and preferences, if magnetic cables don't meet your needs that's alright, you don't have to use one. I personally charge my devices either at the desk or the night stand. The devices I charge with magnetic cable are headphones, controllers, portable lights with motion sensor, AA battery charger, even a portable blender and of course a couple of tablets and my phone. My laptop needs it's 90W so that is used with the charger it came with. Since a lot of the devices are charged once a week or even once every two months it is a lot more convenient for me to have one type of charging cable that is also working with older devices. I know that I migh have even more chargeables on my nightstand than shown here but I definitely have less cables. Just don't risk it, mount the electronics to the side. Similarly, if possible, please don't use power strips on the floor - particularly in a garage. These will get damaged and very likely to be water too. Ideally use actual sockets on a wall, these are much safer than power strips and this is particularly true given the rather murky world of US cabling and power strips where you can very easily get caught out.
