This is the best and realest video about going from Zero “green” to a SOC analyst. Other videos would’ve “edited” the part about your employment beginning with a phone call. But the reality is someone recognized you did the work and the following interview got you hired. Excellent! Looking forward to hearing more.

I appreciate you sharing this, man. I'm in that same boat where I got my Sec+ recently and am on the verge of settling on a help/service desk position. I landed an interview for this Friday for a soc position and am super nervous / feeling lots of imposter syndrome. Big takeaways for me, never settle & never give up.

hey man, I appreciate you following up. I got the offer but the relocation timeline was too fast for my family. still a great experience. they said they would reach out in february for an opening with a more flexible timeline. The position I applied for was to fill before the holiday season so it was super rushed @@TayDaSaiyan

I can relate to everything you said. I feel as if it takes a personal connection in order to get in this field without an extremely technical background. I'm suffering from imposter syndrome. The lack of response from recruiters and hiring managers hasn't helped. I will continue building my portfolio because I know I would enjoy this job field but without work experience or connections I fear I may not get anywhere within this job field.

It's going to happen. Just keep building your skills, linux, python and your portfolio so you can standouts . Also learning windows active directory is essential. The majority of companies use widows. As we all know, it's the preferred target of threat actors because their ubiquitous. Even if you get a job that not exactly your choice just think of it as a payed internship.

We have a similar story I was working at a warehouse and I was getting tired off it so I studied for a couple of certs to do cyber security. I got my security+, ceh, md-100 and working on my Splunk cert. I was applying for positions and I accepted one of the first ones that gave me an offer which was service desk role. I was just willing to accept anything to get some experience and get out my current situation. I had no IT background, I’m about two months in my new job but after seeing your video it’s pushing me to go back and apply for that cybersecurity analyst or SOC job that I actually want and not settle for this. Thank you brother

Enjoyed your story. I have three young sons 21, 23, 25. I'm introducing them to IT in general Networking, cyber/ network security. Learning the valuable skills of Linux, SQL, Python add a bit of Java script. I'm glad to here your success and persistence. If you do a light series on whats covered in the security+ I watched Network Chuck. His class on the CCNA was instrumental in me digging a little deeper. You do something on beginning with slunk for cyber could garner some views. I'm definitely going to share this with my sons.

Respect! I needed to see this today. Keep having second thoughts about certifications and the industry as a whole lately. On one hand, I should spend more time developing my skills with the benefit of labs, and on the other, I’m hearing certs are the way to go first as they’re a gold star on your resume. Then there’s gatekeeping which is rife within the industry. I’m coming to the conclusion that it’s all about networking (who you know) and possessing a knowledge of the basics with an unrelenting desire for continued learning. I'm up for the challenge, but bruh I'm exhausted. 😂

My brotha this is probably the best, realest video i have watched so far. Very down to earth, right now i do security and I've been in GSOC, regular Security Operation Centers but i'm trying to take my path to the next level. Would you say having GSOC experience is a plus to getting into cyber security? Also would you still recommend getting certs and labbing to get the experience? I actually use to work at Splunk so l've played with the program. But transitioning is the part I'm having a rough time with. When you get time any information would help, i plan to continue to watch your videos and hopefully become one of the greats like you.

Appreciate you and this video man. Just came across your channel and you received a sub from me. I’ve been trying to get into IT and the goal is Cyber Security. SOC Analyst is my goal in the IT industry. But I’ve just been having issues trying to retain information. Even doing Coursera Cyber Security Certificate. Not sure what I could do. Currently I work in security (physical not cyber) been doing it since 2011 and I just need a change and I love tech, it interests me, been gaming since I was a kid and I’ve built quite a few pc’s for gaming. Still pressing on just trying to figure out what I can actually do. Thought I should self teach myself Linux and Python but not sure. If you have any advice, tips or anything. I’m willing to listen. Thanks again man

Hey thanks for watching and commenting, you can use platforms like Tryhackme and Letsdefend for online Vm based labs or you could search youtube for lab ideas, as far as the resume what you can do is speak to some of the labs talking a little bit about what you did and things like that, i put some tryhackme labs on one of the earlier versions of my resume, also you can utilize chatgpt to help you build out a resume that can get in front of recruiters! It’s what i did!

I’ve been applying to SOC jobs and I have my Sec+, CISSP, and CCSP, yet I don’t get any call backs. I have experience in IT and as a software engineer but want to movie into security. Why’s that?

Up the number to 20-50 jobs a day which will increase your odds, the only thing holding you back is your own thoughts, there are people a lot older than you breaking into the industry, have the aptitude, attitude, and work ethic and watch you get a opportunity! Thanks for watching!
