My native language is English and I've been teaching myself/studying Spanish everyday since May (studied some Spanish in high school 8 yrs ago) always wanted to be fluent in Spanish:) I should be fluent before the year is over with:) and I'm slowly learning Arabic, such a beautiful language and my friend speaks it and she's helping me with the basics so far. I want to also learn Portuguese, Italian, German, French and whatever else I fall in love with. I honestly enjoy learning a language! It's great for communicating with others and I love to travel abroad:) Loved your video! Keep learning more languages, it's so unique and different from everyone else.

Leuke video!

Hi I’m Adam and my parents are Tunisian . I was born and raised in Australia so I speak English and also my parents speak to me in Arabic and I am learning French at high school because my parents speak French because Tunisia is a francophonie country, I’m recently starting to learn Italian , my mother is also fluent in Italian, practically all her neighbours in Tunisia were Sicilian. I also started to learn Japanese but i put it on hold to concentrate on French more as I’m going into ATAR next year. After my Italian becomes relatively good and I am fully fluent in French i will start Spanish and focus a lot of Japanese as well. Also soon going to start learning Tuareg a language spoken by the berbers in North Africa. After I learn Spanish fluently I want to start Portuguese (Brazilian). Also i studied some Korean, Russian. Hebrew, Greek (I always have a faze where I am interested in a language and want to learn it but end up losing interest)

Heeey Lina, great video! I'm from Brazil and I'm also a language enthusiast. I learned English by myself when I was 15-16, at highschool I learned Spanish and now I'm in University learning French. The reason why I enjoy learning languages is that, much like yourself, I love to communicate. I realized that if I somehow used the language I was learning, either meeting new people or reading, or making effort to speak it, I could make progress very quickly. Even if one day I start learning a language that has no apparent nor logical reason for me to learn it, I wouldn't quit it because it's something that makes me happy. Keep making great videos about language learning :)

Wow you are freaking amazing! I could never teach myself, though I really don't have trouble memorizing everything, I just don't think I could do it on my own. My native language is German, I was really happy when you said you speak German. I've been learning English since first grade, so for eleven years now and I watch so much English RU-vid that sometimes I can't even express myself in German anymore xD In sixth grade we all had to start French, and pretty much everyone hated it, but I really liked it, but stopped after tenth grade, because I would have had to many lessons. I already forgot so much and it really upsets me. I need to start practicing so I don't forget the rest! Also, in eighth grade I picked up Spanish, it's my favorite language so far! There are just too many languages I would like to learn, but the ones I want to learn most are Portuguese and Irish.

Я познакомилась с бразильцами во Франции. 5. Итальянский. Я ездила на круизном корабле, на котором было много итальянцев и я постоянно слушала итальянскую речь. I’m a native Spanish speaker (Mexican-Cuban) and language was always part of my family. In Mexico, my grandmother would always show me her French and German kids books and in Cuba half of the things in my house were in Russian, with my grandfather teaching five year old me how to read Cyrillic. Upon moving to the US I was forced to learn English since no one around me would speak to me in Spanish even though I was in a predominately Hispanic community. After that in school I had to learn a third language and my options were Spanish, French, and Italian. At the time I was fascinated with Italian and learned it in school. While learning Italian I noticed I had a passion for learning languages and within a year I was fully fluent (I’m aware that Italian being a Romance language made it much easier to learn for me). After I finished learning Italian I decided being trilingual wasn’t enough , and with a Lebanese stepfamily I began learning Arabic (unfortunately I only have a grasp of MSA). I also had a Chinese friend with whom I would try to have conversations in Mandarin, even if half of the time he just roasted my pronunciation or my stroke order. Then, once high school stared I became obsessed with everything Russian again and, what do you know, I ended up dating a Russian. After that, I made a bet with my father that I’ll learn Norwegian, and that seems to be progressing mange gutt. At the same time when my internship at University began I began dating a French foreign exchange student and became “conversationally fluent “ (as she describes it) in French over the summer. Finally, now that I have a weekend job and an Austrian boss I began to learn some German. Hope this goes well-polyglot Biologist here I go!

That’s awesome. I grew up speaking English and Spanish fluently. I can speak and understand French, Italian and Portuguese enough to get by in those countries, and very little Romanian. I am learning German and can understand quite a lot because it’s so close to English. I am also learning Polish. I can read text in Cyrillic and understand very little of what it says but hopefully that’ll change once I become more fluent in Polish since both are Slavic languages and very similar, which in turn are also very similar to Czech, Slovak, Serbian, Croatian and Bosnian.

Awesome! I speak Persian as a native but my family and I moved out of the country when I was 2 to Dubai and I started kindergarten in a British school and moved to an American school from grade 1-12. But UAE is an Arabic country (despite almost everyone virtually speaking English cause of the sheer number of internationals) so I had to learn Arabic as well which I was actually the top of the class for (somehow). Anyway, I then moved to Milan for my university because of how close Italian culture is to my own (for starters we both wash our butts! :D) Anyway, now I can speak almost 4 languages. Which is really amazing and something I'm really glad and proud about. I really REALLY want to learn French, German, Japanese and maybe Turkish and Spanish. I also want to obtain a very posh accent (my English accent is a mix of mostly American and British) but I would really like to speak in a British accent naturally, I can imitate it but it feels awkward to speak like that all the time. Any tips? P.S. I love watching polyglot vids, they're so inspiring!

Hey Lina! Your hard work and your improvements push me to continue learning languages :) I'm from Italy, I'm fluent in English and I speak Spanish at an intermediate level. I'm working on learning Portuguese, German and Norwegian! I'm probably going to study Russian at university, but we'll see! Sei mai stata in Italia? Buona fortuna per tutto :)

I’m from an area of the US that is pretty freaking monolingual English. I did learn Spanish in school, and I did well in it progressing to Spanish 4 Honors, one of the highest levels. But it wasn’t until I graduated from university that I moved to Japan and taught English there for four years. That’s where I started studying Japanese as a means of survival. When I got frustrated with my slow progress in Japanese, I decided to pick up Spanish again. Even though I didn’t exactly remember all that much, I found I could progress in the language pretty quickly. That’s where I really fell in love with learning multiple languages. I would really like to start a new language. I’m using Duolingo, and the courses I am enjoying the most are Esperanto, Hawaiian, and Dutch.

That happens and that's also perfectly normal! A lot of people forget that we go through phases in life and the same goes with languages - we go through language phases :D I think that's also the fun part when you learn more than one language; when one starts to not be so entertaining, you can spend some more time on the other one. Good luck with your learning!

Thank you for the inspiration. I am Hungarian and currently speak 2 foreign languages: English and German. But this motivates me that we can learn more. Since a long time I wanted to learn Italian and maybe Russian or French too... Or Spanish, Dutch, or Polish... Now I have hope that gradually, one at a time maybe it is possible to learn them.

This is pretty cool! In my country, the Philippines, we learn our national language and English in school. However, these are besides my regional dialect, which is Hiligaynon. Currently, I have been learning French and I think I'll be picking up Spanish again, as it is familiar in the Filipino language :))). Thanks for sharing your story! Makes me feel inspired that I can do this and more

It is great to see female polyglots coming out on RU-vid! Thank you! I am not a polyglot as I speak only English, Spanish, French and some Russian. I say some because I married into a Russian family but they have an anglicized version of Russian so there are many words they use that raise the eyebrows of proper Russians, I understand a lot of German because I was raised in a Plattdeustch home. Spanish is so logical and the grammar rules are the most regular so I really became fluent fast. It is so useful in the USA. French was a language so beautiful I couldn't avoid it. It is a joy to speak and to listen to. I am anxious to pick a new language. I might go for mandarin. Before cleaning up my German! Please keep posting.

I was born and raised in Jamaica, where English is the official language. When I was about 7 I had a ballet teacher who was from Cuba and his English wasn't very good, so he used to speak Spanish in class a lot and it really made me wish that I could speak Spanish too. I studied Spanish straight through high school and then went on to get a degree in Spanish. I also did Mandarin for one year at university and I started French for the first time there as well and ended up with a minor in French. I just recently started teaching myself Portuguese because of the similarities between it and Spanish + French, and I suppose Italian would be the next logical step. I plan to start reteaching myself Mandarin very soon. Also, one of my favorite RU-vidrs is from Russia and I love when she does videos in Russian, so I plan to learn that as well, and I've fallen in love with Hebrew so I might learn that too. I think Mandarin has been my favourite so far because it's so much more different than any other language I've done and I love writing the symbols!

I’m currently trying to learn French. The reason why is because I live in Canada, and if you didn’t know, our official languages are English and French. I would love to go to France, and the Belgium (all of Europe too, but I know part of Belgium speaks French). I would love to learn tons more languages (so not very realistic, but with hard work, it is possible) including: German, Dutch (German and Dutch just sound so cool), Russian, Lithuanian (I read a book, called “Words On Fire” about a girl in 19th century Lithuania, during when Russia occupies it, 10/10 would recommend) Arabic, Hindi, and Mandarin. I’m sure I can achieve French, probably German, maybe Dutch, but Russian, Mandarin, and Arabic would (or will, lol) be harder to learn.

It's so fascinating how you are able to use all these languages at a conversational level! I wish I could do the same for all the languages that I am proficient in, as well as the ones I am studying and will be studying. For the record, Filipino (particularly the Tagalog language) and English are, by right of the Philppine constitution, my native tongues. I also know Japanese and Spanish, though I am not yet able to use them at a proficient extent. I'd like to learn Arabic, because I live in an Arab country, and other Filipino languages (such as Cebuano and Ilocano) so that I get to strengthen my ability to communicate with my countrymen better, and I'd recommend that you try the same for the Filipino languages, too!

VERY interesting; I hope you can make it to Bratislava this year to th e polyglot gathering, would be delighted to see you there. I am a franco chilean born in Moscow with some German origins from my mom , event htough both parnets speak Spanish, they made their studies in the sixties in CCCP; WHen I was three months old I flew from Moscow to Punta Arenas, and then when I was four years old, to Paris France and then Orléans. thus my natives are French and Spanish, I speak English and my major was Japanese at university. I do read some Mandarin, I understand some German, I have started also Russian, Latvian , Lithuanian, Finnish, Norwegian, Estonian, Irish Gaelic and Hungarian mainly. I have done siome Hindi and some Georgina, I have even a book about Livonian and another one about Latgalian. I spend a lot of time going to palce like mundolingua here in Paris, a museum dedicated to the languages, run by a new Zelader from Hungarina descent, and go to the polyglot club coffe for exchanging on thursdays and Saturdays. I wen to the former two polyglot gatheringd in Bratislava, and witness your video with R Simcott in Ljubjana this fall. It's great to know of other people who are enthusiastic about languages. Learning the language is essential to understand the culture of other nationalities. I speak English and Maltese fluently. I also speak Italian at c1/c2 level. I have also studied German (B1), Spanish (A2) and Arabic (A1) I would love to learn more Spanish. I was studying Italian and Spanish at the same time, until I was having difficulty with having enough time to learn both while working.
