As a professional language tutor with years of experience, I would like to say that it is important to establish a plan which would be suitable to each student. Each person learns in a different manner, however, audio-visual works well. I teach my students to use association and train the brain to welcome the new language. How is this done? Making the language enjoyable and pragmatic. One step at a time. Most important is to learn a language to communicate at ease and effectively. It is a fact that the more languages one command - it becomes easier to learn another one. Nevertheless, life is not about having command of many languages as there is more much more to be disocovered at each stage of our lives. Enjoy

Spanish, Italian and French. I get awards yearly. If students do not learn after taking a short crash course: eg a Collouquial one which is ideal for travellers, etc. they get a full refund. We only expect the student attended all the lessons as per his/her timetable. Study the notes (which are given free of charge) and has his/her homework up to date. Moreover, we offer a free cuppa and nibbles. 24/7 on line assistance and a report at the end of each and every lesson. Mila Giganti Curchod - Safari Corporation - Melbourne/Australia

One of the best things to do when you want to master something, it's to look how did it the people who have already achieved what you want. I Started Italian January first and German 3 months ago, I didn't skip any day and I'm also studying German using English, and Italian using Spanish. I'm happy to know that I'm already following the same steps that you're saying in the video, that means that I'm going for the good path.

Amazing video! Currently I'm learning Russian language... I'm a native Spanish speaker (I live in Mexico), so it's a hard trip; the language structure is so different. Even without the grammatical cases, Russian is very complex, but the need to learn 6 grammatical cases _(12 cases indeed, 6 for singular, 6 for plural, and, as you may know, they sometimes "overlap" [using the same word-endings], which is very hard and demotivating for a Russian-learning "newbie"... and don't get me started with "the exceptions" to the already hard rules)_ makes it a very challenging language to learn. Somehow I keep interested on it and every day I find a new enthusiasm for it. I've found I love this language: there is not an "economical" interest, curricular interest or physical profit for me in learning it _(at least, not that I see any of these for now)_ other than enjoying the act of understanding/reading/speaking/writing it; I just like it, and I'm learning it by my own means, just as I did it with English. I will consider all of your tips and will apply them on my learning journey. Really, thank you. Best regards!
@polyglotdreams

Well, there are really no shortcuts... you are already noticing the important aspects of highly reflective (a lot of word changes) languages such as Russian. Be encouraged that after learning Russian it will be much easier to learn the other Slavic languages- for grammatical and lexical (vocabulary) reasons. Only Bulgarian and Macedonian don't have that case system.
@lucyfromsiberia
@lucyfromsiberia 9 месяцев назад
My five year old son also has a problem with the cases of the Russian language. He cannot learn the cases. Russian is his mother language and the only language he speaks. So you are not the only person who doesn't like cases in Russian. Good luck with your learning! У моего пятилетнего сына тоже есть проблемы с изучением падежей русского языка. Он не может выучить падежи. Русский язык для него родной и единственный язык, который он знает. Так что не только вам не нравятся падежи русского языка. Удачи в изучении!

I'm learning English with the help of RU-vid. My method is shadowing bloggers and making my channel. But my motivation decreases when English speakers make rude comments under my videos. I block such people. But I always think afterwards: "Are these the people I want to communicate with? Do I want to work as a tour guide to give tours to these people?" After that, I usually take a break from language learning. I should probably get distracted and study Italian. Italians seem nice and fun to me.

Its very impressive that you managed to learn so many languages before the rise of the internet. i love learning languages but i rely on the internet for language learning. back in the 90s it seemed that i could only learn English and maybe French and German in my location. when i used to go to rent vhs tapes they only had stuff in Dutch and English. the library didn't even have a lot of English books .even stuff made in japan like Pokémon Mario Godzilla dragon ball z was only available with English dubbing back then .even in the early years of the internet it was pure English. i look at the older versions of my favourite websites they only had English versions back in the 2000s.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful advice! I speak English, Hindi, French, Japanese and some Mandarin. I’m currently preparing for my JLPT exam and French exam while living in Germany so I’m also interacting with people in German for the most part. I plan to learn Turkish, Spanish, Italian, Serbian, Russian, Latin, Greek, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Viet, and a few Indian languages. I’m using laddering as well as reading as my main source outside of RU-vid and other audible sources. I also participate in language exchanges with native speakers hoping to improve my intonation as well. I feel like progress is there but I need to create the same self discipline that is stated here. I know I can learn really quickly but putting that energy into a well establish plan is the only element missing for me.

I watched this video a month ago, and I decided to follow these tips. I normally get my New Year's resolutions on September 23, cause it's my very birthday. So I've just decided this: 1. Focus on Spanish (review A2 level and go for a B1 course - I've been putting this off, but I've bought the book already - work the 4 abilities). 2. English: overcome the intermediate plateau; for this I've enrolled myself into an advanced class here in Brazil; 3. For my French, I've taken it up after some time off, but I'll just review the A2 Mobile book I've neglected when I studied it and try to consolidate my A2 level: gonna focus on writing and speaking here; 4. Get started in German: I've bought a book but didn't even open it. By the end of September 2024, I'll come back here to share the results. Thank you for your help. Hugs from Brazil.

I am an a self-learner and my question is: You mentioned in your video that you studied in different schools (at first) and then you mention that you are "a self-learner". Did you study in a school or not or do you always had/have been "a self-learner???... I have a PhD in science (chemistry, physics, nanotechnology, etc.) but I am currently doing research in the world of languages because I want to demonstrate to a community of language teachers (I am going to attend a language conference) that it is possible to learn a new language in a few months (I learned English in 6 months) and I am learning French (I have not dedicated time to it because I am doing research) but I am learning my fourth language AND WITHOUT GOING TO SCHOOL I mean as " a self-learner ", that is why I am interested in knowing your answer and if you are available one day I would love to talk to you by videochat. Sir, Can you tell me how you Pronounce R in french please
@polyglotdreams
@polyglotdreams 7 месяцев назад
The pronunciation of the letter "r" in French can vary depending on its position in a word and the regional accent. There are two main ways to pronounce the letter "r" in French: the guttural "r" and the uvular "r." Guttural "r": This is the most common way of pronouncing "r" in French. It is produced at the back of the throat and is often described as a guttural sound. To produce the guttural "r," try making a soft growling or clearing your throat sound. It is similar to the "ch" sound in the German word "Bach" or the Scottish "loch." Example: "rue" (street), "mer" (sea) Uvular "r": In some French accents, particularly in certain regions of France and in Quebec, Canada, the "r" is pronounced with the back of the tongue against the uvula, which is the fleshy extension at the back of the throat. This is a deeper and more pronounced sound compared to the guttural "r." Example: "Paris," "porte" (door) To practice the pronunciation of the French "r," you may find it helpful to listen to native speakers or use language learning resources that provide audio examples. Keep in mind that there is some variation in pronunciation among French speakers, so the "r" sound may differ slightly depending on the speaker's regional accent.

@polyglotdreams 8 месяцев назад
Sure, I have done so my whole life. It started when I studied German, French, and Portuguese in Spanish, in Bogota (from 1975). It is difficult for me to give you advice on a plan... it depends on how much study time you have every day. I would simply say you should seek to sty udy each of the languages every day or close to every day, even if it is for only 20 minutes for each language.

Oh, it would never have occurred to me to try learning Japanese and Korean in anything other than English. But the VHS here in Germany always keeps insisting on using a German course book, even if it is not particularly good. I think that's so stupid. Yes, there are some people who don't speak English. Okay, so let them learn English first, and then try Japanese and Korean.

I feel like despite being inspirational, some messages that this video conveys are unrealistic. I am sure there are plenty of people like you who have a gifted mind for languages, but it is unrealistic to expect that learning several languages at the same time will work, like, not even 2 but 3 languages at a time, that is so absurdly difficult. Here, I am advocating for people like me, who have an distinct interest in learning languages but take around 2 years to reach an intermediate level. This is as ridiculous as expecting to learn a completely different language in a few months just because a friend speaks it natively. What I am saying is that, even though I am really impressed and I congratulate you for achieving such greatness by learning 6 languages in 4 years, it gives an unrealistic image of what the path towards learning several languages is, as if it was so seamless. To highlight some of the positive things of this video in order not to sound so negative, I can reiterate that it is inspirational, and I liked to see that I was already doing the laddering and trying to spot similarities and differences between languages I am learning. All the best

@polyglotdreams my mother language is hindi, your is english. These two look like two different languages, but as soon as you get into details, you find out they are extremely similar in structure, morphology, and the way word are put together. Calling them two different dialects of the same language may be too much of a starch, but certainty they shouldn't be called two different languages. Afro asiatic languages have changed so much from their root that you can call the modern ones different languages, but this difference is not there to be found in case the various deformed forms of yamnaya speech

Very interesting attitude you have. I guess you don't understand enough to make a judgment properly in this case... or you didn't watch, for example, the video I just published in which I have conversations in 10 languages. .. just something drives you to react this way. Frustration 🫤 ? Whatever it is, I hope you can overcome it and enjoy language learning and associated cultural understanding and experiences.
