I love how this is a man. Because lots of the time they are focusing on women and their body image and disregard the fact that sometimes men feel the same way

Boys have many of the same body images as women do; it's just not discussed. While women have the unrealistic Barbie dolls to contend with, boys have GI Joe, Superman, Batman, etc with the ridiculous chest-waist ratios, abs, etc. And as boys develop into men, they have some definition of what a man is looming over them from military to athletes to lumberjack/manly man. And the fitness magazines get men, too, but sometimes, it hits them in all directions. Just a few months ago, Men's Health had some guy on the cover - ripped body, pecs, abs, etc...but...he was also an army medic turned Army Ranger turned ER doctor in real life who also does charity work. WTF!

Loving your body is hard to do, and many struggle to accept how they look. Don't think about what others think, especially if it is bad. Accept every compliment.

Aliya Kensler No. Do think about what people say in a negative way too, but learn to differentiate who says it to help you and who says just to bother. Because we need to see our faults to get better. :3
@bambino9235
@bambino9235 7 лет назад
Aliya Kensler i wouldn't apply that to something as subjective as appearance. Your appearance is yours- everybody else's opinion is irrelevant and there are no right or wrong answers, but your science essay, for example? Yeah, you should probably listen if somebody has something (constructively) negative to say about it because there are right and wrong answers there

Antonio Lolesio he already works out daily to combat his weight besides, a lot of people have unfortunate genetics which lead them to gain weight easily due to lower metabolism some just blatantly can't lose weight like those with hypothyroidism and people that already have diabetes in which case, telling them _not_ to accept themselves while they can't do crap about it is only going to make them hate themselves more

Liradu2 - Agree completely. It's extremely hard to change this way of thinking that you've been doing your entire life. I've been suffering for twenty years. That's a long time. And I'm STILL working on it! But I am no where near where I was ten years ago (or even five or two years ago). I've come across an interesting analogy that might help this make more sense. Think of your thoughts about yourself and your body as a well-travelled beaten path. It's so easy for your thoughts to go down that path, but the minute you want them to blaze a new trail (the trail of postive thinking and self-compassion), it's so much work to walk over the tall grass. It's tempting to just leap back to the beaten path, as you have always done. The more practice you have of thinking the new way - going down that unbeaten path - the easier it will become. Soon you will make this new path more-travelled and it won't be so hard to go down it. In turn, the old path of negative-thinking and self-loathing will soon grow over and it will feel less easy to go that way. It is a lot of work and I have days where I just want to curl up and do nothing but hate myself. But with enough practice, I know I will eventually change my thoughts
@flamingmonkeyheads

I'm a pre-everything trans guy and I really relate. It's just so easy to get stuck on the things you don't like, to let them get you down and beat you down. I'd love to try the drawing thing, but at the same time, drawing myself makes me feel like I'm lying to myself, like I'm pretending I'm more masculine or attractive than I really am. So I'm either "lying" or just really, really uncomfortable... I'm trying to work on it, though. I think when I finally work up the courage to come out, I can start being myself, and therefore seeing me as I REALLY am, instead of through the distortion of my imagination. To any of my fellow trans brothers and sisters (and everything in between), just remember to focus on the good and keep moving forwards. We can make it, together.

Instead of focusing on physical "flaws" we hate about ourselves, we should focus on things we like about ourselves, both physical and especially inner traits. Also, we don't have to see our physical flaws with such a negative connotation. We can see them as perfect imperfections instead. For example, I used to loathe my almond-shaped monolided eyes. I even went through extreme measures of buying eyelid tape and desiring to get double eyelid surgery when I turned 18. It just seemed like to me that society's epitome of beauty was large, doll-like blue eyes like Barbie's as it was advertised everywhere. Now that I've grown away from that self-loathing, I've learned to love how my eyes look because they're a part of me and I no longer see them as a flaw.

I've always loved drawing, it's therapeutic to me. I've always had sever body image issues (to the extent of hospitalization). So when you talked about drawing yourself as you imagine, and then drawing your reflection it just kind of clicked for me. I'm going to start doing it every time I have a bad self image day. On the days where I hate myself and the body I'm stuck in the most. thank you, this really helped me.

This made my soul happy. I have PTSD and depression issues. it has been a loooong winter here in Canada . Today, I thought i would try on some spring and summer clothes at the mall. I was so frustrated to see that i have eased my depression with food this winter, and gained quite a bit of weight . Been beating myself up about it since getting back this afternoon. I need to remember that im my toughest critic
@jwongsings

Ooh this one got me good. Everything that he described, even to the exaggeration of the sketches and drawings, is exactly how I see myself; my chest is one of the touchiest subjects, after having been bullied in middle school. It is so great to see some light shed on this issue--how men can also suffer from body image issues and dysmorphia. I am still learning to love myself. It's a slow process, but it's better and better with each passing year, and that's all I can really hope for. It's really too bad that I can barely draw even a stick figure, or else I would definitely give that coping mechanism a try!

Idea for BuzzFeed (if it hasn't been made already): Make a video about how ideal body standards for BOTH male and female doesn't mean they're attractive for everyone. Everyone has their own different quirks about what make another person attractive and that should be the main priority of the message. One person might like Muscular bodies or Skinny bodies but another person could like bigger bodies and a more curvy type of shape.

I have issues with body image too, I have a lot of little odd things about me. When I was born, the doctor noticed one of my left ribs pokes out a bit. It's not a health concern, but it sure looks like I'm constantly sucking in my stomach to look skinnier and I hate it. I have violin hips. Instead of being smooth, there's a dip inbetween my hip and my leg. I have a fairly large gap inbetween my lower canine and the tooth beside it. It was caused from my baby tooth being very large and my adult tooth being normal sized. Because of this, I'm not too fond of smiling in pictures. But I'm learning to embrace my quirks, and you should too. Love what makes you unique.

This is probably one of my life's lessons. It doesn't matter that I have a wonderful husband, been married for 31 years, a family that loves me and that I love and amazing friends. All I see is what I see in my mind. No one could be crueler than I am to myself. I tell myself...you would never ever talk so terribly about someone else. Why is it ok to talk about yourself?? The easy answer is it's not. But that's the lesson. I hope I learn it.

Thank you for this. I always see commercials talking about how women shouldn't be treated because of there body type, but they don't realize men have FEELINGS. Everyone doesn't understand men have bodies. We have Sagging Fat that we are disgusted by when we look in the mirror. But no one is ever there to say "It's ok." there just there to go over to a women or girl and say you look Beautiful. And girls are beautiful it's just men want comments, and we all want to feel good about our bodies.

I love how everyone keeps complaining about how buzzfeed keeps talking about women's bodies, but in all actuality they always talk about how they love their body. They never really talk about the rest of the world and how lots of women and men have body image issues! I know I have body image issues. This video really sums up men and woman's views on their body

I loved this vid, please make more :) It really does give hope to those that suffer from body dysmorphia and shows others what it can be like from the sufferer's perspective.

Or you could change your diet and excercize habits. I used to be at peace with my body, till a friend pointed out I was getting fatter. I got self conscious and this motivated me to change. I did a lot of fasting and cardio. Working out and restraining from food and water is harder, but the reward is greater. Then I got my old shape, and regularly did cardio, while making sure I don't have too unhealthy foods.
