Something I often says to folks who are following a lot content of Cottagecore folks living seemingly beautiful lives in beautiful places without a care nor worry in the world, "Never compare your behind-the-scenes to someone else highlights reel" as outsiders looking in we *never* see the full picture nor the full journey of how these folks cultivated their life. Comparison doesn't serve us, it is after all, the thief of joy.

Neurologically, we learn from mistakes. That forges new pathways in our brains. Then when we finally succeed, it builds and adds to those pathways. Without the first mistakes, we wouldn't have the pathways to build the bridges to success. So yes, those messy beginnings are very important.

This was exactly the video I needed. I’m an artist but I haven’t picked up a paintbrush or pencil in months. I think one thing that many people overlook is the repetition and constant learning. People that create are always told they have talent. No, they have dedication. A plumber or a doctor isn't told they have "talent", like oh well, it's easy for you. Creativity has to be cultivated and learned just like you said, watching videos and tutorials. I wish peope would just say "I love your style or work". This is the first time watching and can I say, don't let other people tell you that you are doing something wrong in the videos, it's your free channel they get to watch, if they don't like voice overs they can just mute it. Some peope do very slow videos and I just speed them up to my liking. Well done

You are you - and you are perfect the way you are! You are full and you should stay full. I hope you can sort mean comments out and keep the good comments close to your heart. Also - I am amazed by your watercolour skills after just two months of painting! You inspire me to keep learning and just enjoy the process, without the pressure of each piece to be perfect.

Yes, BUT you can learn drawing! From videos by immitating basic drawings or from your own personal experience by trying to copy the shapes and colors and what you see. It's the "contnious practice" that will make you see the difference between your first drawing and your on going ones, you will see your progress through time. Try it! My daughter learnt to draw just by observing me and immitating me! She is drawing frequently (more than me!) And she became already good, better than me when I was her age !! Try it (even talented people when they don't practice regularly, they lose some of their skills and talent!) 😊👍💕

I believe that creating is a drive one feels or desires. There are many ways to create. If the desire is strong enough, then developing the skills is a process that takes time. I wholeheartedly agree that the journey is more important than the result. However, the result can be very rewarding. There was a time when I began selling my paintings and getting commissions. It made me proud to have others value what I did enough to hang it in their home. On the other hand, other than the validation I received, there was more enjoyment in what I did for me. Being a working artist meant pouring my heart out only to give it away. I quit because the fun turned to chore. After retirement, and many years away from drawing and painting, I am rehoning my skills. Hand eye coordination is critical. It is like playing tennis. Repetition is essential to place the ball where you want it to go. Now I am having a lot of fun learning new things. Also, now it is all about learning and creating, just for my pleasure, to hang in my home or for my friends and family, or, to just keep in a drawer or sketchbook. I loved this video. It was full of wisdom, and aesthetic as well.

Even those who seem to be naturals at making conversation second guess themselves later. My revelation from this video was that I was incredibly lucky to have a mother who taught her children to recognize all the beauty in the world around us. This trait is not hard to adopt once the decision has been made and committed to.

I am only partially into your video but I already love your honesty. We have to be grateful to be able to see beauty around us. The person who made that comment saw a pretty house but they did not see beauty. Those whom are grateful see beauty when it rains. I am currently starting to paint again in my apartment, which, through some big life changes, I have been redecorating. I am creating my sanctuary, and the apartment has become very aesthetically pleasing for me. It is wonderful to have a lovely space to create; however, it is a grateful mindset that allows me to see beauty. I was writing poetry in a small room in an apartment shared with others as I stared out the window and listened to the rain. I was knitting on the New York City train, amidst the noise and chaos. Of course it is difficult to live and create in a dirty space, but it is important to cultivate a healthy grateful mindset. I really enjoy your video so far!

You’re painting is coming along beautifully! 💕 Hard work will outshine talent any day. I find with the art tutorials I follow, I always watch first and then paint. There’s nothing wrong with following someone else’s design for your own practice. Start with whatever materials you have. During the pandemic I painted little pieces of paper with coffee and tea 😅 Sometimes it’s fun to try new things without a specific end. You most certainly do not need an esthetically pleasing space to create art. You need a space that you don’t worry about the mess you might make. 😊 Thank you Daria for a lovely video this morning. ☀️🥰

I would call this process painting, not a focus on product. We begin learning by practicing, learning from our mistakes, or beginning effort: watch a child learn to walk, talk, or even draw. It is so helpful to have a beginner's mind yet always hold on to the step-by-step of each small goal. Keep a gentle, loving way of life and living, and watch yourself blossom! Ideally its not habitable but it's all we can afford right now. It's not aesthetically pleasing, but I still paint everyday and make the best of the place using my artistic abilities. Of course, I would love to have our own house with decent walls and leveled floors, but I set it aside for a while and make the best of a not so great situation in order to pursue my love of art & painting.

I could sew some clothes for my doll, pillows, curtains, kitchen items, skirt and some dresses for me, anything to enjoy that moment or repair a piece of clothe. Also, I learnt crochet and knitting at 9 years old, from my big sister and mom. Our home was smelling crafting activities as I grew up in a family of 4 sisters besides having 3 cousins living next to us and playing together! You should totally talk more on the camera, it bring out yet another side of you which is very beautiful to behold. Thank you for sharing your journey of learning on how to paint, it's actually quite important to hear from new aspiring artists. Quite often people who have mastered something cannot really relate to the beginners anymore. We humans tend to forget the difficulties and struggles of learning when we just start out. It's important to share things as it can only encourage others to make something beautiful of their own. Beautiful video and I love how well he music fits into all of this, such a lighthearted but sophisticated feeling 😀 P.S. Stepping over the cat bit was surprisingly very amusing, nice detail! 😂

Also the ease of how you hold your brush and do your strokes is not beginner like but more like a pro 🤗 You obviously have a great talent 😊 But to all the struggling beginners like me who watch this I would like to say "don't think you are the only one who does not get to this level after 2 months I believe most beginners struggle just like me". 🙏 Don't be
@IamDaria
@IamDaria 2 месяца назад
Aah thank you! But I also do want to say - please don’t be discouraged. We all have our different things we’re good or not so good at, but everything is still possible with practice! One advice I could give, which is something that worked best for me, is to literally take it step by step and “dissect” each painting. I watched a lot of tutorials, but following along didn’t work and was super stressful. I then just watched other people paint and rewatched each step until I memorised how they do it. Then tried to paint in tiny bits like they did. This developed my understanding quite a bit. But also what you don’t see in the video, is that each painting takes me hours to finish. I paint miniatures because they don’t require as much detail. But still, I can spend a very long time working on a painting like this. Please don’t be discouraged! I am sure you are better than you give yourself credit for. But also it all takes time!

😍 Loved your watercolour, Daria! (Yay, sketchbook flip-throughs!🖌😃👍) I totally share your views on being creative and not letting perfectionism spoil our enjoyment of the learning process! 😊 I started using old school supplies and unsuitable paper during the pandemic, and discovered how freeing it was to have an activity where I didn't feel compelled to excel! Now I seek improvement just to be able to express myself better, and for the joy of learning. I am a perfectionist by nature (I still have supplies awaiting till I feel like I deserve them, because I don't want them to be wasted on my poor skills), but I try to overcome this trait! 😅 Speaking about traits, I also keep playing conversations back in my mind afterwards! 😉 (Must be an introvert thing.🤭) I loved your speech, Daria, so please, keep talking to camera! 👌😁 And I definitely recommend everyone to take up art. Thank you for sharing your hopeful perspective as honestly and encouragingly as you have. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. It's my first one of yours, and I look forward to learning more with you. I have been too fearful to try watercoloring painting, despite having all the lovely supplies I need to do so. After watching this video, I am feeling different about my potential to also create some beautiful little pieces of art that I can call my own.

I really love your video and I'd love to stay on your channel longer. I feel like I've found a kindred spirit in you❤ I am a self-taught artist and I also believe that *the most important thing is the journey, not the destination* It took me some time to realize this but it was worth it. Painting and drawing helped me get through the darkest period in my life. There is something magical about creativity, and every aspect of it can be translated into our daily struggles or intrusive thoughts. For me, art has a language that is more understandable than anything else I can think of. I have certainly learned that: - making mistakes teaches me to look for new solutions -spontaneity does not always mean a lack of control -being a perfectionist is neither possible, healthy nor productive -an open mind and courage to try new things often brings surprising results

Your photos and videos show you have an eye for colour and composition. It didn't surprised me you're good in watercolours. And the process! It's totally about following the creative path, not the end result. Being a painter myself I always feel it's the painting process that makes me most connected with creation. Beautiful collection of sketchbooks!

I like how you added in a clip of you speaking to us facing the camera! It's quite interesting seeing the gestures and mannerisms of talking, since we've known your voice mostly through narration form. The paintings are wonderful (and the dog border tape very fun!). I struggle with paintings; my brain seems to not like layers and colours and brush strokes; it screeches and runs back to pencil sketches!

I like what you said about you were responsible for creating the beauty of your world around you. Anyone complaining about your speaking or home or life should be asked “what are YOU doing? Are you improving anything about yourself? But you criticize others”

This video was so encouraging to watch! I really enjoyed everything you said, especially about creating when your environment isn’t “aesthetic” but it’s how you make it. This is so encouraging as I’ve been trying to teach myself watercolor and gouache but keep getting my discouraged or overwhelmed. Thank you so much for this video ♥️

I am hard on myself and fall into the traps you have recognized. I am grateful to hear your messages. Thank you. I think you strike a wonderful balance of film and message and I love that it is slow and pleasurable to watch. Thank you. 😊💜

Thanks for this. I can confirm that the ability to recognize beauty does rarely depend on your surroundings. For instance the 23 envelope Artworks were often derived or using old, scratched or decayed surfaces and they led you into inner realms of sheer beauty. Besides, your English sounds so british to me (I am German) that I was surprised to hear in one of your clips that you are not born in the UK. I do always enjoy listening to people who speak a beautiful English. Don’t listen to the Naysayers 😂

Great video! I've been painting watercolor for a few months now and get frustrated with myself. I'm so use to acrylics and perfection and I too got overwhelmed with too much from online tutorials and over thinking it. I want to create simple watercolor paintings.
