I work 3-4 days per week and love it. The shifts aren't too long and i have time to focus on other things, like creating my own business selling art and crafts. I have time to socialise with friends without feeling tired the next day. Sure I don't make much money but I'm frugal with my budget and invest what I earn so I can accumulate wealth in the long term. Humans were not created to sit at a desk for 40 hours letting life pass us by.

I walked by a beautiful house with a modern car. In the window, a woman was sitting in front of a computer, working. Yes, she had pretty things and a nice view. No, she did not have the time to enjoy it. I may not have much, but I have the ability to walk by her and her life, except I’m outside with the sun on my skin and my dog by my side. That’s all I really need ❤️
@AntoniatheUniverse

Awww, thank you so much for sharing. I would have felt the same way. I read this book "the midnight library" which talks about a woman experiencing all of her possible lives by choice. In one life she was hyper-successful, but was single and had little real friends, she was unrecognizable to herself, but of course had a lot of material things. I mean I totally get it if somebody wants this, I just think a lot of people see the upsides of such lives without seeing the downsides. The point of the book was partly to show that no life choice is easy or perfect, it is just yours and what you choose for you. I agree so much about being out with your dog - time in nature, how precious. We really don't have enough of it and I'm proud of you for enjoying yourself! P.S. I have a similar budget to you (I watched some of your videos) and I love your attitude!

5 years ago I changed from working 72 hours a week to taking 2 part-time positions (2 days per week each) in my career field. I take home about $1500-1600 euro (based on current exchange, I live in Canada) to support my family on per month. I have 3 days a week to do my own thing. I am much, much older than you and the main financial support for my family, so I came to the realization that time is more important than creature comforts later in life....

I graduated recently and I've been working full time. It is absolutely awful. Working 40+ hours a week, then after the shift you're way too tired to do anything. Even on weekends, you're thinking of work. What makes it even worse is I'm doing accounting, an extremely soul crushing and unfulfilling career. I was actually thinking about your video topic the other day. Working part time and just being a minimalist. There really is something to it. Freedom is so much more important than money, status, etc. Freedom is happiness. I may very well follow your path someday. Thanks for this video. Do you plan on doing this forever?

Hey, thank you for your sincerity and sharing your story! My mom is also an accountant and I know how soul crushing it can really be, it really takes a lot out of you. What I am doing definitely comes with constraints, but I cannot imagine that they are anything as worse as what you've described. I really do like where I am now and I can only recommend it if you feel like you have more to create and experience! I plan on doing this for as long as I can and I pour all of my time into my passion for creating content and inspiring people. My hope is to completely lay off work and just do this, I only need a bit more income to come from this.

I'm 27 and have been working super hard since finishing uni at at 21. Instead of buying a nice house, I took out a mortgage on a humble 1 bedroom apartment in a lower-middle class suburb near a train station that takes 20 mins to get to work. I'll pay the mortgage off by the time I'm 30. Then I want to either stay and work part time or sell it and buy a small house in a small town then find a part time job just to pay the bills. All the money in the world won't buy me more time.

True, which is why I with the job I have being medium to low salary, I don’t give a damn about what some family seeing me as lazy cause I won’t get a job with more money cause more money job means more of your time and energy and sometimes more stress with it. My approach is controlled side hustles where I have control over when I work it and for how long I do and don’t work it. And in meditation various creative saving minimalist strategies come to mind that has worked to allow me to free up more of the money I make which yielded more money with what I have and that works for me rather than the BS approach, keep focusing on what is more money alone without the other parts of our well being

I love this perspective in life! I'm a teacher and even though I don't work part time, I do work less than my co-workers. The reason is that I prefer having less money and enjoying my free time and the place where I live rather than having a lot of money I don't have time to enjoy life. To me it's as simple as that. ❤ However, since teachers don't earn much money here in Argentina, I still live with my mom (we share rent). If I worked more and moved out I still wouldn't earn enough to pay rent and neither would my mom. So this is the best decision for me at the time. Anyway, I totally support your decision. And I think the career you've chosen suits this lifestyle!
@AntoniatheUniverse
@AntoniatheUniverse 3 года назад
Hey Lour, that's so cool that you live all the way in Argentina, yet we have so much in common! I don't think it's that bad to live with your mom if you have enough personal space. I would probably live with my parents too if I was in the same country as them! All of my friends from back in my home country of Bulgaria (around age 25-30) live with their parents, no joke! I think life is too short and if you get on with your mom that's all that matters! Maybe one day you can move with an SO or a good friend. Maybe you could record some lessons or write something for some passive income. I'm sure you'll find the right path for you, because you are taking time with yourself and that's the best thing you can do ❤

Just don’t want to hear all the negativity from family when I do go part time ugh I just can’t do this grind 24/7 it’s way too much and unfair to give all your time to a boss

I'm so sorry for that situation, but it's really nice to hear you have a will to break free and do your own thing! Do not be scared.. remember that you can always go back and take a few courses and launch a new career in a year tops. But.. you can't have a year of struggling to enjoy your life just to survive back. The clock is ticking and when time runs out for us others' opinions won't matter. Do what you feel is right (as long as you know you will be safe financially). Lots of luck and support from me ❤❤❤

I 100% want people to talk openly about income, because life and free time directly depends on it. It often feels like this side of the deal is undervalued, almost like this is some kind of secret to keep for the employers - why? They don't care if I say how much time I spent, but it's not okay to say how much money they spent.. Thank you so much for your kind and sweet words 🌻

Thank you for being so open about your own life. I've been toying with the idea of shifting into part time work since I've been beating myself up for not having enough time to make as many paintings as I wish I did. It's annoying that Europe is built for pedestrians but the USA is built for cars! It's going to be hard getting rid of my car living in the east coast of the US.
@AntoniatheUniverse
@AntoniatheUniverse 2 года назад
It's very hard to get around Europe without a car too, at least in rural regions! I am much less mobile and have not been able to visit friends outside of the bus regions without them having to pick me up. It's not easy, but it's worth it. Your paintings are probably much more meaningful to you than the added comfort, so you could justify taking carsharing or bus rides more often. There are also other ways to save for sure, I think it's so worth it to explore them, especially if you have a passion! I wish you lots of luck and discovery ❤

Greetings from a little village in Germany :D. I'm now also thinking for a long time back and forth, whether I should go on part-time or should continue my education and train a new profession. I was sick for a long time because of traumas in childhood. Social anxiety, borderline and worked myself to death in my first job because it was somehow never enough uu. This has led to the fact that I am now long unemployed and working hard to lead a 'normal' life again and since about a year I have begun to enjoy nature and myself more(what i share on instagram that's really fun) and it is hard for me to see me back in a full-time job. But it also makes me a little scared to go to work part-time especially since my cat this year has become propper 11 and unfortunately very often had to go to the vet the last two years xx. But with friends and family I have always somehow managed the vet-bills. You have in any case a new follower and I already know what I will binge-watch the next few days in the evening
@AntoniatheUniverse
@AntoniatheUniverse 3 года назад
Greeetings!! That's so awesome to hear from another "villager" here 😄 I think it's not bad to have an education that you like per se.. If you're really serious about using whatever you learn later in life over a very long period of time, to commit to it - maybe it makes sense. And if it's possible to do that part-time that's even better! I see you've found a passion in telling your story as you say on Instagram - you could also make something of that? Maybe photography? Or maybe it could be any of these options and you just need to take your decision nice and slow and see what options are open to you! Please don't rush into anything and know that if you make a mistake it's totally fine to go back and retake that decision. I think that's so amazing that your kitty is your priority and I wish him the best health ever!! Can't imagine my cat being sick or losing her, so pleaaase let your kitty be super healthy! 🥰 I'm so glad to have you around and thank you for sharing your story!!

@@AntoniatheUniverse @Antonia & the Universe Yes~, that's what I thought too. But I'm working on it, even if everything is currently taking much longer than it already is because of Corona. And thank you very much. My kitty really means everything to me, without her I probably wouldn't be here anymore so I try to do everything possible in my power that she is doing well >

Hello Paul! I found it by starting as a student that has to be part time anyway because of university, but I know a lot of colleagues that start full-time, work about a year and then ask if they can go part-time. I think that is a bit risky... it might not work with every place, but maybe in some places where you establish this possibility from the start it will be more available. I imagine also asking at places where they are not necessarily putting out job offers and sending them an "initiative application" as we call it in Germany. For example "Hey guys, I can do ... and I would love to offer you my services if you have any part-time offerings" It might definitely take a while, but I would try. Maybe I would take 6 months and just keep sending these without giving up until something happens and if nothing happens I would try the first strategy I mentioned. At my old job a few people did the first strategy as well, it helps that it was a start-up where we were all friends, of course. I hope that helps!

I have an on-body 20$ microphone from amazon (which sounds better than the professional ones I tried before), I edit in adobe premiere pro cc and use some websites like pexels and mixkit to get things like transitions and stock footage. To learn premiere, I suggest learning by doing and of course watching a few online courses. I recommend the channel cinecom.net and their skillshare class (2 months of free skillshare is easy to get if you google it). The skillshare class is from the teacher Jordy Vandeput - I learned most of the things I know from him! I highly recommend you just go out and shoot a few things and play with editing every time a bit more and not just look at classes and then start. I hope that answers your question a little bit and let me know if there is anything else you would like to know! :) P.S. Keep in mind that Premiere is a paid editing software.. But I am curious...how do you live without life's incidentals: batteries, various glues, adhesive tape, rubber bands, scissors, pens/pencils, fans for cooling, heaters, extra blankets or sheets, light bulbs or other crap that just takes up too much space to live in a small space and that requires money to acquire?? There seem to be so many "things" that are needed throughout the day, I am not sure how to downsize. Great video!
@AntoniatheUniverse
@AntoniatheUniverse 3 года назад
Hey, B! Thank you so much for sharing your experience and your thoughts. I have heard of other people in the US doing it, but I for sure know that it's hard. Honestly, more than anything I just had to give up on quite a few things and pick simple options so I can reduce the costs. In terms of the extra things, I've found that if it's things you need to have for a limited amount of time, you can borrow them. I will borrow some jars and things like that often from neighbors of from family. I have a small box of basics like tape, scissors and things like that too though, because my partner loves to fix things up. If he didn't use it as often I would probably reduce that a little, but he does. So definitely we borrow a lot, we try to innovate and use things in new ways too. For example when we run out of boxes for food to take to work, we might use an old jar from something. I also use jars as glasses when more guests come around. We also might ask people to bring their own towels or bedsheets if possible, though we have one extra pair. If need be we would wash everything and have enough for everyone. I try to inform people about what I have so they feel free to borrow and share with me and that helps. Sometimes you can rent things from companies too. Another thing that has multiple purposes is our electric fireplace, because it's my favorite decoration and light, but it can actually heat up the space too. We received a fan from family, but I don't think I would've bought one. I kind of try to open all windows really early in the morning on hot days and then I close all the blinds a few hours in. For pencils and things like that I'm trying to go digital as far as possible. A lot of people like iPads for doodling? Maybe that's an option for you. I hope that answer was helpful, I think your question might be a great video idea too, though, so thank you so much for asking! I wish you a lovely week and please feel free to answer or reach out anytime :)

Hey! Many thanks for the video and sharing your lessons. I have just moved for a job which provides cheap staff accomodation and meals provided everyday, so I am saving up so much money, however even now I see that I would rather have more TIME. Can I ask you some questions? How old are you? I am 23 and looking at getting my EU citizenship before choosing a course to study in EU. Are you still glad you chose computer science? Do you think you could have this lifestyle with any major? And lastly before I exasperate you please tell me what other countries you thought about before Gemany? :) All I want is to work part time and my full time job to be self actualisation and growth of character mind body and spirit
@AntoniatheUniverse
@AntoniatheUniverse 2 года назад
Hey Gavin, thank you for sharing yourself! I'm glad you found a new job that's treating you well, but I can totally understand how you would want more time. After all, it's our only life and you are in your right to wish for a better way to spend YOUR time. Let me try and answer your questions: 1. I'm 27 2. I'm still glad I chose CS, because it gave me the freedom to find myself while having well paid, secure jobs. If I'd found myself before university, I'd probably feel different about that. My teenage years didn't offer this opportunity though. 3. I think you could have this lifestyle no matter what major you study, BUT you might have a harder way there with other majors and career paths. I think if you are creative, hard working, and lucky enough you could end up living a happy, simple life no matter what you do. People make money streaming their pets on twitch, why shouldn't you? It's much harder to break through in pet streaming of course, but if it's important to you, than it's important. Don't choose something just for the money, because you hopefully have a long life ahead of you and you will have to face your decision every single day. 4. Personally I didn't consider other countries, but these days I would also think about the Netherlands and France. They fit my attitude a little more, but I still love Germany for many reasons. I fully understand your reasoning, and I reasure you that as long as you set the right expectations for yourself (less money, some paths being harder than others) this lifestyle is awesome and nothing beats being free to do anything you want with your time (according to your means)☺️☺️☺️ Hope that helps!

Aww, hey Baylee! Sorry for the late reply! I picked up this t-shirt from TkMaxx ages ago and cut off the label, so I sadly have no idea where it was from 😓 Sorry!! Thank you so much for your kind words, I really hope you find something that works for you! Don't be afraid to try things out before you know for sure. You really can't plan out the whole future while standing at one point in the present and looking forward. Experiment! I wish you lots of luck 💖

Ah! I believe it is a pricy one, but I actually borrowed it 😀 One of my minimalism lessons that I learned was to borrow more and be more creative with upcycling, sharing and thrifting things!

I wholeheartedly hope this works in America too or at least that things improve to the point that it does - maybe in cheaper places this is the case 😊

It’s the health insurance in the US that’s a problem. You can’t get anything affordable or with decent coverage without full time work 😭

Of course I'm proud in a way, whatever that means. I made a choice and stuck with it :) Of course, all my other options had to be abandoned for that.
