I'm not an expert but looks like they were in the 9-10 km radius of the nuclear bomb when it went off, because of the wind and *immediate* fallout. This means this scene would've been realistic if they had also seen a VERY bright flash while still at the campfire, then heard a loud boom which should've been followed by a hot and much stronger shockwave. The first ash/dust particles should've come falling down on them minutes later (given the wind was blowing in their direction). If they somehow managed to survive so far (with burns), collecting all those nasty alpha radiation emitting particles would've been their death sentence. Immediate shelter and a proper shower may increase their chances of surviving but they already received high doses of beta and gamma radiation with the shockwave, giving them acute radiation poisoning. Let me know if I'm incorrect.

Right, Madman Films? Are all little kids not old enough for phones not old enough to predict weather or particles and would probably start complaining and whining about it that they never had winter which ash is unfair and ash is traumatic that is not snow, not even ice. So Piper could''ve felt traumatized by the ash that unfortunately for her opinion, it's not snow, it's ash and would start crying about not having snow, right, Madman Films?

And ash is complainable or arguable to little kids, right?
