I'm one of the guys who stumbled upon this video and I've got to say it is scary how close my situation is to yours down to my eating habits, my wife being a feeder, my insatiable hunger (I'm hungry while typing this), to drinking coffee, Coca Cola and the odd beer. Even the naughty cupboard is present. Listening to you speak was like looking into the mirror. If there is one takeaway from this video for me it's that losing weight is possible. I'm 47, 1.88m and weigh around 125kg. I don't ride an e-bike but I've got a Specialised Camber and Stumpjumper EVO. So no excuses in the riding department. Change begins now. My goal is to weigh less than 90kg by June 2024.

How goes the progress? I'm 140kg and am waiting on my new e bike to be delivered. I dont do any exercise other than what i get at work and yard work, so i presume that the addition of more movement will be beneficial. Gonna try that Carnivore diet.
@kvanniekerk3792
@kvanniekerk3792 3 дня назад
@@existentialterminator8190 I am currently at 113kg. I ride an average of 150km per week with a total of 3000km year to date. I cut out carbonated drinks, drastic cut in alcohol intake and my eating has become way more disciplined. I've revised my target weight goal date to be more realistic this time next year, but the progress is consistent. My before and after pic makes it look like I've delivered a baby. I would suggest starting a consistent riding habit once you receive your bike and just stick to it. You will see the results soon enough. Good luck.

Well done Lance. I startet my bike adventure 2 years ago with a analog bike. A friend gave me his ebike for a weekend first summer, and this spring i bought my own ebike. And also did change my diet, much like you did, and startet walking and some weightlifting now and then after first year. Starting everething around april/may of 2021. Today i lost 56 kg💪

I'm going through that struggle myself. It's a long term goal but a combination of ebike and normal bike is slowly getting there. I'm a lot fitter, I'm a lot stronger but I'm still very heavy. I've got great friends and i love riding. Started 146kgs now at 118kgs. I'm 58.5yrs old and I'm aiming for 90kgs average before i hit 60yrs old. My family and friends are my motivation, i enjoy their company so much, i want to enjoy it for as long as possible. Being in England the weather can play a big part in a persons failure, in can bring you down but your vlogs and some others keep me wanting to improve my skill and my health. Your vids a great fun to watch, especially the progression, carnage and giggles. I love this sport, it's giving me hope for a more enjoyable future. Cheers Mate.

Firstly, well done on your progress so far. No small achievement. I am like you, if the sun shines, I can achieve anything, and all is great with the world. A few days of rain and I am the complete opposite. A few years back I started a video on the 1st of January to follow my weight loss and fitness changes. By March I abandoned the project as was heavier. What changed. This time I really wanted it badly and nothing was going to stop me meeting my goal. I also had friends exactly the same as me who had done it so realized it was not impossible. Good luck. 60 for me is the time to have an adventure not to slow down.

FINALLY someone has come out and said it, Diets are not the way to go. This is something I have preached for years. No I'm not a Nutritionist., just someone who used to do a lot of weightlifting many years ago and the maths makes sense. Diets are to hard to stick to, so you go back to your old ways. As you say REDUCE calorific intake and that will do the job, if you want to lose more increase your excercise to burn more calories. I'm also a big believer in trusting the mirror or tape measure rather than the scales as again as you have said water retention will make you weight more. Have you reached your target wieght now?

Great vid Lance. Agree fully with the simple premise that to lose weight you need to use more calories and/or eat less calories. Calories soon add up and its the little things that count. For example, I cut out milk in my coffee and tea. We were going through two litres of milk per day, and milk has more calories than beer. When you're drinking 10 cups of coffee and tea per day, that's a lot of calories. Snacking also adds up so getting rid of the naughty cupboard is a good idea.
@bestdayevermtb2
@bestdayevermtb2 7 месяцев назад
The naughty cupboard is staying as my wife likes it. To be fair, she stocks it, not me. I just have to ignore it.

Lance, both what you've achieved and this video are brilliant, and from all the comments below everyone else feels the same way. I'm 70, and need to lose 10kg, and twice in the last 10 years I have lost 10kg using the Zone Diet, basically the Cross Fit/All Blacks diet scaled back (of course) for my way lower running/biking exercise regime. The challenge now for me is that running isn't sensible at 70 (ankles, knees etc) so it's only biking/walking/swimming, a lower intensity regime, but I still eat the same or worse. You've made me realise that should really just cut breakfast Weetbix from 3 down to 2, cut lunch bread from 3 down to 2 slices but pack the sandwich with more protein and salads, and skip seconds at dinner. I also need to cut out snacks except fruit, and drink a LOT more water, and I have found that chilled water is easier to drink, and seems to stop me being hungry. Sounds also like a key ingredient for you was competing with your mate Steve, and you lost weight quickly once you really set your mind to it. There are a heap of biking guys in the comments who also want to lose weight, and would also probably be motivated by others doing the same thing, and I wonder if there interest in a setup where we could compare our progress via your channel somehow??? If not then at the very least your video is very helpful and motivational, and it would be great if you revisited the topic frequently. Cheers and thanks from Lower Hutt.

I mentioned Steve and me trying to get to 80kg in 2011. Steve said it was impossible but in 2023 not impossible. This really made me think. I agree men can be competitive. Seeing their friends do things makes us realise we can too.

I come for the dad jokes and stay for the nice content. I lost 13 kgs last year riding my emtb and riding lift-assisted downhill on an acoustic bike. One of the things that shocked me was that as the weight came off I had much more fun riding my ebike. My battery lasted longer and the bike felt like it could climb so much better. The only downside is the very low energy reserves when you are actually losing weight. Nice work Lance!
@bestdayevermtb2
@bestdayevermtb2 7 месяцев назад
I didn't suffer with that at all. Infact, I had more energy which is weird. I used to carry sweets and coke in my backpack when riding and would stop for muesli bars. I now ride with just water.

Snap! I used/still use a virtually identical approach except I kept diet L&P in the mix 🙂. The body soon realises it's not getting that big breakfast and kicks into autophagy (literally 'self eating') and you're not really hungry after that. I calculate that 20kgs not going up Judgement Call is worth 1 or 2 minutes at same power output - KOM time!

Great story. Feel it on the speed eating part. If I could ride as fast as I can eat I would be at the world cup 😂 Done keto, it worked but not sustainable. Just have to eat less, high protein and move more. No secrets.

So many people seem to yoyo on the keto. I came up with a meal plan that I think I can sustain as I can still eat out in restaurants and dinners out.

Intermittent fasting is the way to go. Hunger is mostly in your head. When you force yourself to eat within an 8hr window, you soon realise that fact. In a week or 2 of intermittent fasting you’ll be eating less, have more energy and feeling great. Breakfast not really necessary unless you’re weight training in the morning and you need the protein to support muscle growth.

Mate if I can give you a piece of advice it would be that you need to put on some muscle. The advantages are never getting ill or rarely, faster metabolism, and always feeling vital, fit and alive as hell. I train calisthenics (weighted) and its as simple as doing pushups, pullups and dips for triceps and squats (weighted)for legs. I'm 66 and swear by this, but it's a lifestyle not a two month thing. Equipment is basic and cheap. You are NOT too old either thats a BS copout.

I do want to get stronger and fitter as well. I do have weights in my gym and do use them but need to dedicate more time to this. I am keen to try some much longer rides in the future.

Those artificial sweeteners are everywhere, as are natural flavors or hydrolyzed vegetable protein, I have to avoid most manufactured foods to not get hangry. I'm in the market for an e-bike for all the same reasons of the rest of the folk here. More e-bike fun means more exercise.

I love E bikes. I have had many comments over the last few years saying I was overweight because I rode the ebike. I just wanted to show people the E bike was not the reason for me being overweight it was diet.

Less calories - it's so simple. it's so interesting how you stumbled upon the zero-sugar fizzy drink trap. Even though they don't have any sugars in them, the brain doesn't know that, and your body will sock calories away as fat, the same way as if you did ingest a sugary fizzy drink. And yes - each beer is a 250 calorie gut bomb, is full of carbohydrates (sugar) that can really get in the way of losing weight, especially after having 4 or 5 beers, but doesn't run your metabolism clock hard like artificial sweeteners will, so that's promising to all the beer drinkers out th ere.....a great way to still have alcohol is to get some carbonated water and pour a bit of red wine in the glass for color and a bit of flavor. minimal calories, and you get a good size pint too.

Currently I ride about twice a week. About 30km each time. I do a few weights in my home gym but not a lot. I weighed myself just now and am 75.5kg and have started eating some cake and chocolate biscuits as want to really stay at 80kg. My body seems to have adjusted and am not getting the Hangrys anymore. Good luck.

Your title and video image are a little misleading though. You did not lose weight by riding an ebike, you lost weight by changing your diet. That is the same way everyone loses weight, by changing their diet. Nobody can out ride a bad diet no matter what kind of bike you ride.
@bestdayevermtb2

The title of the video was "How I lost 20kg despite riding an E bike" The reason for this is my channel is all about E mountain bikes. Many people have commented in the past that the reason I was overweight was due to the E bike. I was showing those people that I lost weight despite having an E bike and actually not changing my exercise at all. Hope that helps.
