This video brought me to tears. I've always been an atheist but have always felt the calling to something more, and this video has opened my eyes to the possibility of forming my own understanding of spirituality, and accepting the beauty in something greater that so many others from all religious backgrounds share. I'm going through a really rough patch in my life rn and this brings me a profound sense of comfort, hope, and purpose I haven't felt in a very long time. Thank for helping me begin my spiritual journey. ❤

for me the only difference between philosophy and religion on the one hand, and the arts on the other hand, is that people are probably not going to kill each other over who is greater, Bach or Beethoven. If only philosophers and religious believers could see their activities as creative human acts, as poetry and metaphor, instead of as triumphalist truth claims there would be much less conflict and violence in the name of truth.

Thank you for this Zevi! I truly hope that more and more people of our generation can go on this same journey we have and find a more loving, informed, and open way to practice and believe their native faith instead of abandoning such things entirely. I was raised Roman Catholic and went to private Catholic schools for most of my childhood, and the wounds that upbringing left on my soul have yet to fully heal. I left religion behind as a teen and was much happier for it, but the part of myself that had always been fascinated with theology and inspired by Jesus never truly went away in that time. Now as a mid 20-something I find myself standing right back where I started, just with knowledge, wisdom, and firsthand experience having replaced exclusivist, judgemental dogma. That old part of myself had withered quite a bit, but I'm happy to say that nowadays it's blooming more than ever. And that is thanks in part to you. I've kept seeking, and what I've found in the past few years has helped myself and those around me more than anything else ever has. Thanks Zevi. 🙏

I'm really enjoying your videos, thank you. I had a similar awakening years ago through studying representational neuroscience, logic and linguistics. I've been deconstructing the self in as many ways as possible ever since. Through studying the mystics and subjects like sociology, particularly areas like self-construction, self-maintenance and self-appraisal. The more I learn the more I see how the writing is on the wall at all times and we ignore it because we are not ready. I have been talking about this for years with friends and family and all regard it as an idea and not the truth, while remaining entrenched in their particularity. Sadly not everyone will answer the call and we all have to learn for ourselves. I really appreciate anyone who spreads the word knowing that they may fall on deaf ears. It shows that it is not about fame but of glorifying and elucidating the Truth.

A beautiful video! I was raised catholic but I never felt that feeling of belonging. I knew, even as a kid, that God was love and not apart from the “bad people” they used to talk about. After Covid period, I started my seeking for truth, my own truth because some how I kind of lost faith in myself, so I read all kinds of books, watched different rituals, I’m in Brazil, so here we have all kinds of religions and it’s kind of easy to participate. But I never felt “that” connection. Only when I started studying Kabbalah and Buddhism I felt something. I thought “well, they speak different languages, but they are speaking the same thing”. So it kind of changed my life completely. It was the first time that I felt God in a way that there were no options to deny His presence. I remember that once I realized that, the existence of God, the real meaning of the existence of everything, all of us, I started crying. I was a completely Skeptical Arts student and my way of acting changed dramatically. I could feel God, and I still feeling it just being myself, loving myself and accepting myself the way I am. Thanks for all your videos. Que Deus te abençoe. In Brazilian Portuguese” that God blesses you”.

I had an awakening after my mom died in 2015. I had been a Christian for 35 years or more. For the very reasons he stated in this video. It really bothered me that in general most religions including my own at the time look as their own religion as superior and put others down of a diff. Faith. That never set right with me. I love all people of all religions. I found the Bahai faith by accident. Long story. But i liked they don't prosteltize ( might be spelled wrong) i like so many things about the faith that just resonated with me. I loved how non judgemental the lady was that met me. I love that i can love all faiths. I love God, Jesus, Krishna, Moses, Buddha, and so many others. I don't have to hate one to love one. We Are All One. UNITY is the answer and no one needs to convert to hang with the Bahais. I've hung with Muslims, Jewish people, Universalists, Unity members etc and i respect them all. Its not about who is the best, its about how good we are together!!!

I may have lost my faith in a higher Divine Being, but I was able to over come my "Angry Athiest" Overly reductionist phase and learned to appreciate the many world religions as amazing intellectual traditions. So I almost could take that as a "Second Faith" kinda. I'm really intrested in Slavoj Zizeks idea of Christian Atheism. I may not have faith in a higher being anymore, but these traditions have helped me to find new faith in myself and humanity! That ought to count for something! I would hope so.

What you are describing is called hyper-Christianity. Nietzsche said it was like the corps of God cast such a great shadow people would pick up the illusion and worship it as reality. The etymology of the word illusion is "ill-ludere;" ill meaning to "be against," and Ludere meaning to "play." The world is against playfulness. It stands against us, and we cannot stand against it. Do not try to fight the world.

Very well said! I am a Chabad Chosid who has come to the same conclusion. For me however, I am still in the stage of anger. The tribalism that our clan forces on us has disenfranchised me from much of our movement and the people there in. You have a wonderfully eloquent way of presenting your topics; and putting into words the things and ideas that can be nigh impossible to verbalize. This video resonates with me on a personal level. I was born a Christian, but for a very long time I considered myself strictly as an atheist. From a young age I grew increasingly resentful towards the dogmatic and authoritative views (and sometimes downright awful actions) of certain representatives of the church institution, and went through all of the stereotypical, edgy internet atheist phases. It was very much thanks to this channel and the awe inspiring world of mysticism that I have started to have something remotely resembling faith again :) My deepest thanks for the work you do.

Best ever. My story starts from a point that was actually on the opposite side, the clear need to return to the faith of the mothers and meet an inner jewish truth that had no name but was in me from instant one of my life. Then, once back home to judaism, the path has been the same. as yours. Same books, same authors. The great reality in this world is that we're all points on the one and same circumference. No matter where you are, there is in fact no high or low, right or left, every point has the autonomous, unstoppable power to see itself conncted through a radius to the One and Only Centre. The music is formed by the desires of infinite radiuses from infinite points of singularity to form One Circle, One Center one Sphere. Beautiful speech. Proud of You. Leithraot.

I appreciate your story. I was raised agnostic and converted to a form of Hinduism after a long series of events involving severe trauma from illness and profound healing of that trauma during mystical revelation. One of my former professors from grad school. Zvi Ish-Shalom, is a former Hasidic rabbi who is among the most spiritually insightful people I’ve met, along with several Hindu and Buddhist teachers, and who seems to have somewhat similar ideas - though he no longer identifies as a Hasid (I’m pretty sure), he teaches Kabbalist spirituality to non-orthodox people and seems to have a lot of perennialist-inspired views

Thank you for making this. As someone who was raised as a Jehovah's Witness, the idea of "singular Truth" that only one organization has access too is an idea that I grew up being brainwashed to believe. I have spent a lot of time and practice in my adult life just trying to deprogram my mind from their twisted view of Christianity and spirituality. It's paradoxical that ideas about God can give so much comfort and meaning in life through some traditions but others use it to control and victimize others. I wouldn't claim to have found a second faith yet but I'm certainly seeking something. Psychedelic practices like those that Terence Mckenna recommend have been a huge help for me and has started me down this journey into the mysteries of reality and how to engage and think about the spiritual reality of the universe. Thank you for this channel and sharing your experience.

Any relationship with any outer god, guide, or guru is first and foremost a relationship with that inner highest part of ourselves that mediates that relationship. So all traditions and all objects of devotion produce genuine religious experience. This internal counterpart element of the external object of devotion, call it the higher self, soul, inner guru, or guardian angel-I think the quote you showed at the end was speaking to this-is primary, which means any tradition is a valid means of entering into relationship with it. But it’s so transparent we lose sight of it. It will shower us with blessings and raise us up to divinity whether we call it Christ or Kālī. It will gladly love us back in any form we choose to love it in. I think love also follows the same principle. The real “soul mate”, the one we long for, is just this 💚

i spent most my life in a fundamentalist Hindu group. It professed a universalist worldview and accepted that everyone approaches God according to their own nature, language and level of understanding. But it was also extremely exclusivist (and bigoted) with a strong "us vs them" narrative. Everyone has truth but we have THE truth. My path to a universalist mysticism began with astrology which led me to investigate the triple Sun of Emperor Julian. This led me to the theurgy of Iamblichus and philosophy of Proclus, which led me to see the same truth within Sufism, Christian mysticism, western esotericism, and Kabbalah. It profoundly deepened my understanding of the Upanishads, Vedanta and the Vedas.

I really resonate with your journey. I too am a wayfarer from a more exclusivist spiritual understanding (Roman Catholicism), which I still love and respect, to a more universal Faith (Baha'i). To know that we are all one does not mean that we are not, each one of us, distinct and special in our own spiritual understanding. "So power is the light of unity that it can illuminate the whole Earth." -Baha'i Scriptures. I love your work. Thank you so much for sharing in warmth and love.

I easily grant all traditions participate in a transcendent truth. But the very logic of participation opens up the possibility that some traditions, or parts of some traditions, more perfectly resemble, or are *like*, that transcendent truth. I think the appropriate attitude to approach this transcendent truth from across borders of tradition is in the spirit of mutual aid and friendly competition. Nothing wrong with lively, fiery debate. I do think the depths of each great tradition have more in common than not, and this is enough to base mutual respect upon.

Funny enough while watching your Neoplatonism videos I paused during the interview you did when you said you were Hasidic and looked at the year to see it was one year ago then looked for pretty much exactly the title of this upload. Something gave me the feeling you were on a path of self discovery and would have something to say about it during the year since I picked up on that. It's a beautiful message you're proclaiming and truly wonderful that your doubt is making you wiser and stronger. It isn't easy, I went through a very similar thing, but opening the door to hopeful skepticism while maintaining an appreciation for one's culture and structures has been to me anyway supremely rewarding. It nearly broke me at first but solve et coagula and all that. I truly lost myself and went so far as to lose my will to live with all the implications saying such a thing entails... but by unifying my personal experiences of direct spirituality, my Christian upbringing and my now undying skepticism I'm more hyped and frankly honored to be alive than ever before. No worries if you dont have time to read this but I'm writing in this line after writing all that follows which was longer than I thought it'd be and perhaps overly personal but I think it's important people open up about stuff allike this all the same: My past was quite dogmatic. I shifted from my upbringing quite dramatically by attaching myself to a new tradition but ended up being just as dogmatic about it and eventually just as disillusioned. I went from a dogmatic Christman kid to an angsty late teen dogmatic occultist (specifically a Thelemite joining the OTO in my 20s) and then in my late 20s I had a complete breakdown, left the OTO, got super depressed and entered an absurd state of denial and atheism (I say absurd because my tangible spiritual experiences are so overwhelming there was no way I could keep that up for long). What ultimately saved me was true grounded non-wooey physics, astrophysics, cosmology and quantum physics (as opposed to the misleading hippy versions you'll find all over RU-vid). By building up my knowledge on what we can most concretely declare as the truth of what our universe is, how it works and how it started I refound my passion for spirituality. I now have no issue using any religious system as a system nor any resentment to my Christian past or towards the OTO and Thelema. When I joined the OTO I realized eventually I wasn't just seeking truth by making that switch I was clinging to a need for dogma. Now I prefer what the Discordians would call Catma: relative semi-beliefs. I keep myself in the centre of a triangle: science, religion and personal experience.

@@SeekersofUnity It means a lot you actually read that, honestly didn't expect that. It's really neat seeing the vast diversity of spiritual backgrounds in the comments and your channel is aptly named as it seems the majority of us are doing exactly that; seeking unity which by the very definition of unity necessitates diversity. I'm looking forward to catching up on your back-catalog and your future uploads as following the evolution of others on their own journey for unity will always be a reflection of everyone else's if the unity they are seeking is something akin to the Neoplatonic reunion with Nous/The One or the occult Great Work or Kabbalistic climbing of The Spheres towards Ein Sof or the physisists who are seeking what Stephen Hawking would call a Theory of Everything or the Christian who is getting in touch with Christ Consciousness or the Hindu with Brahman, the Buddhist with Buddhahood and so on and so on (I do not mean to make an equivocation of all the words I used they're all unique in their own way however they're all diverse, valid and inherently beautiful ways at Seeking Unity). Wish you all the best and as the Thelemites would say: may [you] be granted the accomplishment of [your] true Will; whether [...] absorption in the Infinite, or to be united with their chosen and preferred, or to be in contemplation, or to be at peace, or to achieve the labour and heroism of incarnation on this planet or another, or in any Star, or aught else, unto [you] may there be granted the accomplishment of [your] wills; yea, the accomplishment of [your] wills. While I really have developed quite a dislike for Crowley as a person as I said having spent nearly a decade in his system and most of that as a devoted member of the OTO I now take what resonates with me and apply that to my own seeking without any guilt that I'm somehow by dropping what doesn't resonate with me supposedly insulting the dogma. I'll leave you with three Thelemite poems I think germane to one of the core subjects we both seem to resonate with: doubt and it's importance in Seeking. These are three "chapters" from Crowley's "Book of Lies; Falsely so Called" a collection of poems and abstractions designed to challenge the reader to constantly balance opposites in an attempt to find the underlying unity that exists between all contradictions: "Doubt. Doubt thyself. Doubt even if thou doubtest thyself. Doubt all. Doubt even if thou doubtest all. It seems sometimes as if beneath all conscious doubt there lay some deepest certainty. O kill it! Slay the snake! The horn of the Doubt-Goat be exalted Dive deeper, ever deeper, into the Abyss of Mind, until thou unearth the fox THAT. On, hounds! Yoicks! Tally-ho! Bring THAT to bay! Then, wind the Mort!' " Being is the Noun; Form is the adjective. Matter is the Noun; Motion is the Verb. Wherefore hath Being clothed itself with Form? Wherefore hath Matter manifested itself in Motion? Answer not, O silent one! For THERE is no "where- fore", no "because". The name of THAT is not known; the Pronoun interprets, that is , misinterprets, It. Time and Space are Adverbs. Duality begat the Conjunction. The Conditioned is Father of the Preposition. The Article also marketh Division; but the Inter- jeciton is the sound that endeth in the Silence. Destroy therefore the Eight Parts of Speech; the Ninth is nigh unto Truth. This also must be destroyed before thou enterest into The Silence. Aum." " O thou that settest out upon The Path, false is the Phantom that thou seekest. When thou hast it thou shalt know all bitterness, thy teeth fixed in the Sodom-Apple. Thus hast thou been lured along That Path, whose terror else had driven thee far away. O thou that stridest upon the middle of The Path, no phantoms mock thee. For the stride's sake thou stridest. Thus art thou lured along That Path, whose fascina- tion else had driven thee far away. O thou that drawest toward the End of The Path, effort is no more. Faster and faster dos thou fall; thy weariness is changed into Ineffable Rest. For there is not Thou upon That Path: thou hast become The Way." (Edits were done to correct some misspellings and grammatical issues)

@@SeekersofUnity I'm no RU-vidr (though yourself and the group of other grounded seekers you often collaborate with has me really contemplating starting) but if you ever wanted to chat with me whether in text form or preferably in a video chat let me know. The same is true of many in the comments left by others in your community but I think there is a unique perspective I can give which may be of use to yourself and your audience. There's a lot you've brought up I think we could have a truly reciprocally beneficial discussion about and while I don't think my association with various occult groups makes me in any way more privy to a mystical Truth than someone who hasn't (some of the least truly spiritual people I know are high members in magical orders and some of the most spiritually aware people I know are on welfare and belong to no group) I do feel there's a lack of grounded discussion between those who've been in such groups and those who are in academia or at least religious teaching online like on RU-vid. I love the work of yourself, Esoterica, Religion For Breakfast, Let's Talk Religion and all the rest however as I said I feel it odd very few discussions have been had with those who've been in "Mystery Schools" like Freemasonry (whether the original 3 degrees of a Master Mason of the Blue Lodge or beyond into the "regular and recognized" 33 degrees of Scottish Rite/10 degrees of York Rite, the many orgs available to Master Masons which cater to a vast array of traditions or the many often maligned but fascinating "irregular and unrecognized" Lodges like Memphis-Misraim and Co-Masonry), the OTO and the inner order and supposed true successor of The Golden Dawn the A.'.A.'., the Thelemic Gnostic Catholic Church, the many non-Thelemic modern Golden Dawn revivals, BOTA, Ecclesia Gnostica, The Typhonian Order, Wiccan groups, Aurum Solis, AMORC/other Rosicrucian revivals like OKRC and so on to far more modern and somewhat satirical takes like Discordianism, DKMU and Chaos Magick. I no longer belong to any organization but am deeply connected to friends within every one I listed above (side note: you'd be surprised to know how many teachers in the academic world especially in Philosophy and Religion belong to one or more of these) but despite my going my own way the world of Mystery Schools I was so heavily involved with for so long deeply impacted my path and are so often misrepresented by those looking from the outside in, often missing the fact the members are all just normal people and instead projecting a romanticized reality that just doesn't actually exist. The only group I may end up associating with is Blue Lodge Freemasonry as it's fully open to anyone (well... any male) who believes in a Supreme Being. It especially caters to the Judeo-Christian-Muslim and Neoplatonic worldviews but I know Hindu and Buddhist Freemasons as well as many others from various backgrounds. I feel like when I joined the OTO what I really was looking for was something like Freemasonry where I can be among like-minded people and have access to libraries and discussions and group ceremonies that resonates with me yet lets members hold onto their own beliefs. I'm going to hold off on that for a few more years as I ensure I build a strong foundation of personal spirituality so as to not make the mistake again of seeking dogma instead of seeking unity. If any of these kinds of discussion interest you leave an email address and we'll get in touch. No pressure though if such a discussion doesn't interest you I'd take no offense and will be interacting with your channel none the less. All the best to ya

Ay Zevi (amazing video by the way, made me weep), but what to do if we have lost our particularism and feel compelled by truth not to return to it? Is there no place for universalist seekers of truth? "We don't have to abandon ourselves in our attempt to embrace the other; if we do, there's actually no one left to do the embracing" (4:55). Yet abandoning the falsehoods of my unique particularism (Mormonism and Christianity in my case) has not made me feel like no one -- on the contrary, it has catapulted me into a sense of siblinghood with all of humanity which I feel would have been impossible from a more particularist standpoint. Surely I don't wish the death of any religion on earth, and I do agree that they are all part of "a long chain of humans, carrying on an inner wisdom in each and every tradition, to every corner of the globe, wherever there may be an ear to hear it" (2:56). But do the "spiritual but not religious" fit into that picture? The "nones"? I'm sure there are no easy answers to this question. Nevertheless, as Seekers of Unity, I thought it was worth bringing up. Thoughts from anyone would be appreciated.
@cuteHannahHH
@cuteHannahHH Год назад
I do believe the answer is yes, of course do the "nones" fit in that picture. Why should there not be a place for those? It's is a standpoint that is very important and has been increasingly gaining in prominence over the last decades, as more and more people lost "their faith in their faith" as they saw the harm that religious fundamentalism has caused and is still causing in the world. As long as one treats others with compassion and respect, it doesn't matter which religious label you put on oneself, or if you do not label yourself at all, if you wish to do so, and what kind of rites and spiritual practices you observe or do not observe. No one should feel superior for having abolished their religious belonging/upringing completely, which does not mean you should not feel proud for having been able to have found the sovereinity and strength to turn your back on ideas that clearly cause more harm than good to oneself and others. Just as no one should feel superior for belonging to a certain religious group, which in turn does not mean you should not be allowed to feel proud for belongig to a certain tradition and live that with all your heart. No one should be treated or seen as an outcast for a particular belief, be it "religious" or "spiritual" as long as that belief doesn't hurt others or restrict others in their personal and spiritual sovereinity. As long as that belief doesn't claim to be "the only" truth. And of course, many fundamentalist religious sects do claim that, but I mean - that's what we're talking about here, right? That we need to get away from fundamentalism if we want the world to be able to live in peace. What matters is how we treat each other and for me this, of course, also includes the people that do not believe in God or any higher power at all. You do not necessarily need faith in God if you have faith in the shared human values that we all here try to bring more of into this world.

There seems to be a line with ancient philosophers ... Eckhart Tolle is very much fond of them and I have to say that one of the great books that kinda untied some of the knots from my christian experience was Linda Johnsen's "Lost Masters" with the other being the "Gospel in brief" by Lev Tolstoy. Linda's book digs into the wisdom of ancient philosophers ... When I was in Tel Aviv in 2018 to listen to Eckhart I met a jewish girl who said to me that she was trying to get people to ancient Greeks or something like this ... while I was trying to say to her about Eckhart unbeknownst to me at that time that Eckhart was going later on in that year to Greece for a retreat called "Know thyself".
