FIRST OFF...I absolutely love your dog! 🐕 I've been following for quite a while and when I saw Laura on Garden answers feature one of your videos, it just made my heart so happy! I am a recovering addict and your videos, along with Garden answers has inspired me so much that I have completely re landscaped my entire house, plus put in a vegetable garden and now have 11 chickens.😂 Gardening has been amazing therapy for me. This will be my first season planting fall bulbs. 10 Purple sensation allium and 12 replete daffodil. Wish me luck!

As well as the packages of bulbs I picked up I think all together I planted around 435 bulbs! HA! why not? I have no idea what i'm doing but they are all planted and now I can't wait until spring!

I planted about 500 bulbs this fall with mix of King Alfred daffodils, white lion double bloom daffodil, Narcissus 'Delnashaugh double daffodil, Hyacinth, Muscari, Purple Sensation alliums and a white allium but I can't remember its name. I have nearly finished planting my bulbs, they weighed 12kg, over 200+. I have a small garden, so it really requires planning, constantly, because I have to keep out bulbs from the places where I plant dahlias which require deep digging, but I can plant seeds on top of the returning bulbs, because that doesn't require digging, so I am not destroying bulbs. The bulbs which won't return I will dig out and plant there other summer flowers and pull those summer flowers when I need to plant bulbs.... 😄 Also planted returning bulbs - Daffodils- between perennials, as space- saving method, bulbs should be over by the time perennials pick up.. 😊 I still enjoy it all and I don't mind the effort. Love the planning part as much as the planting part 😊 and if someone thinks that is not worth it... just wait until they bloom 😍😎 Greetings, Judit

This is my second fall planting bulbs as a new gardener. Last year I planted some tulips, daffodils and a few alliums in a new flower bed and this year I added to our big flower bed that had been neglected for many, many seasons. I went all out and planted Ice King daffodils, Absolute Treasure Bearded Irises, Exotic Emperor semi-double tulips, Cartouche double tulips, Blue Wow double tulips, Aveyron double tulips, Sugar Bird Crispa tulips, Ambassador Alliums and Eros Alliums (all purchased from Veseys in P.E.I. as I'm in Quebec). I started rejuvenating this bed back in May, cutting back a rose bush that my belonged to my great-grandmother that was taking over the entire area, pulling out some dead plants and a few small trees that popped up on their own. We planted more than 20 perennials, I added a stone border around the bed and some mulch. Unfortunately we didn't get around to putting in the irrigation system that we purchased, however we will do that next season. Gardening really helped me deal with the stress that Covid has caused both at work and at home and I am truly grateful and blessed to have been able to work in the garden with my dad this year.

I feel the same way - the weather in fall is not quite welcoming, it´s often rainy and cold... but I love spring so much and I know I will be glad for the job I do in autumn. Nobody can ever say: oh gosh, there´s too much spring colour, right? This fall I´m planting another batch of the earliest blooming daffodils - Rijnveld Early Sensation, and Diversity - the orchid type of daff. And plenty of other bulbs... 😊

I was fortunate enough to get a bunch of muscari from Walmart in the spring and enjoyed them in bloom when I planted them on the south side of the house. My son dug the holes and I planted over 1000 bulbs this past weekend in what is a relatively small city flower garden. Narcissus, tulips, hyacinth are the main attraction. However, I also planted anemone- Grecian windflower and Byzantine gladiolus both of which I have never tried. I am with you, I have never regretted planting bulbs when spring arrives they are a sign of hope for warmer days!

I'm a relatively new gardener, but this year I've been pretty ambitious. I must have gone back to Color Blends and Easy To Grow Bulbs about 10 times to buy more bulbs. I think it has been a coping mechanism. I bought about a dozen Amarylis to get me through the winter, about 400 tulips, 300 daffodils, 200 Snowdrops, 100+ Hyacinths, 100 Snowflakes, 100 Snakeheads, 30 Allium Ambassadors, 25 Trout Lillies, some Alliums, Fritalarias, Erythorniums, and Crocus. Like the 'lil orange flags' Erin. I too live in deer alley. Literally, they sleep in my alley! And 'poop' in my yard. So I also decided to plant daffodils, 50 of them to be exact in a small bed attached to my house. I live on 90 feet x 125 feet. I used to have 10 acres in the country and miss it very much. I used to plant tulips but it got too frustrating keeping the rabbits and deer out, now I'm eager for the new ones all in shades of 'white'.Daffodils, hyacinths, snow drops, muscari. Love the music!!!

Great video! This year I gave our backyard a makeover and now I have a lot more flower beds to fill. We lived here for 16 years, and I never got into planting too many bulbs. It all changed this year, I put in a mix of tulips, also planted some alliums for the first time. We have a lot of shaded areas, so I planted more Fritillaria Meleagris, pretty little checkered flowers. I already had some of those and always loved them. The bulbs are tiny and easy to plant. Still, my back really hurts!

Perfect timing! I have bags of bulbs here ready to go in the ground. I never thought about using flags for planting. I think I've kind of figured out your garden design. Great bulb plan, Erin! Im in zone 6. Today Im planting tulips and alliums in pinkish/purple hues. I use a paper towel to mark the spots Im going to plant in, then just drop the paper towel into the hole with the bulbs! It'll compost up nicely! Got some Negrita, Claudia, Queen of Night and Angelique tulips, and Purple Sensation allium! Then I plan on dividing and transplanting to the same area, some of the Grape Hyacinth I already have to bring a nice contrast and pop to the tulips and alliums. I already have other groupings of various daffodils planted there! The bed Im planting these in is a 10x40 foot strip on a front street, so Im hoping it will bring that "Hallelujah, Winter is finally over" message to everyone passing by in the Spring!!!!!!!!!!! Love it! This will be so pretty in the spring! It IS hard to muster the energy to plant bulbs in the fall sometimes! I didn't buy any this year, but transplanted a bunch of daffodils bulbs that needed thinning from one area to the front of my property. I did little clusters around my burning bushes, which have been getting munched on by voles in winter. I'm hoping maybe it will deter them a little, but they'll probably just go around them... ur! I love the intent and thought you put into placement and timing of flowering... something that's hard for me to do sometimes! Makes a lot of sense... I get what you mean, being a zone 4 gardener myself... I would rather see them all at once too. Can't wait to see them in spring! =)

Great video. Love pre-thinking your garden. I try that each year. I am planting quite a lot bulbs this year. More tulips, hyacinth, and more. About 1500 bulbs this year. Your dog has the look like, come on Mom, I'm bored and cold. Beautiful!

He's definitely bored, but never cold. He gets grumpy when we make him go inside.

I have always planted bulbs every year. I really like the ones the deer don't eat.

I'll be spending my weekend planting two big bags of tulips from color blends. They're supposed to be some show stopping blends for what is a very front and center part of my garden. Here's hoping for a colorful spring!

Great one, Erin! Love that idea of using the flags to plan. Spacially, it would really be a help. I agree with you about mascari. Picked them each year along with snowdrops for May Day baskets. I'm planting more aliums this year, because...🦌! Thanks again for awesome ideas and charts. Very helpful.

Mostly daffodils because, like you, we have an all-night deer buffet here in Central Virginia! Squirrels are really mean to the orange crocuses that make my heart go pitter-pat, so I'm not replacing those. I will be putting in some Tulips around our new house addition for color. I've had no luck with anemones, so I hope you do.

I'm adding more daffodils, grape hyacinths, grecian windflowers, and trying some more tulips, even though I never get them when I plant them. This year I'm putting my tulips in the fridge for a few weeks and surrounding them with chicken wire. Always hopeful. Here in the south we don't usually get enough cold and I'm having a chipmunk invasion. I'm going to wait till you plant your anemones and watch before I plant mine.

I love your background, look nice with those big trees. I don't have any bulbs in the garden and love to have some, so i start to buy some dahlias bulbs, hopefully they will give me some flowers in the future season.

I like the plan to plant several bulbs in an area. Thanks for the info on deer resistant bulbs. I really like the mix you are trying. I would like to try more white bulbs.

I planted a lot of daffodils, hyacinth and fritillaria. Some alliums and tulips. I have been adding more squirrel resistant bulbs over the years because they always devour my crocus and a lot my tulips.

I had huge swaths of Muscari but the voles ate them up. I loved how they had naturalized and it was such a bright spot in Spring, they didn't mind the snow we get either. I am planting a lot of tulips this year but will keep them in containers as the voles wiped out my perennial tulips I had as well. I had my entire garden lined with a two foot deep line of red perennial tulips that came back every year and it was gorgeous. They have left all the daffodils alone and that is what I shall plant in the ground but everything else will be in containers. Your plant looks fantastic, what a fine Spring you will have.

Voles are terrible. I keep crossing my fingers that they don't become a big issue in my garden.

@@TheImpatientGardener I have gardened here for 20 years, I cannot believe how they have exploded in population just the past 2 years. It has been a real trial but I am adjusting to alternate techniques so I can enjoy my flowers. We recently adopted 2 new kitties who are hunters for sure so they should help!

Outside of my fenced garden the deer pressure is very high. I live in a small city on a busy street but nothing intimidates these deer. So I planted a row about 16" wide from sidewalk to fence and over 70 ft. long. There is a nursery school nearby and the kids always walk past on their way to the river. Near mother's day I come out and tell the class as they are walking back to school that they may each pick one to take to someone for mother's day, or just to keep for themselves. The kids get so excited, and I have so very many that there is no real evidence of their depredations. The bulbs have gotten very crowded the last two years and so I am transplanting them to a four foot wide strip running the same 70 ft. surrounded with grass in the space between the street and sidewalk. We have low powerlines on our side of the street so we just planted a row of short white crabapples within the daffodil strip. This summer I will have grown many flats of white daisy zinnias to plant as babies among the daffodils. There is an awkward period when the bulb foliage is not fully spent, but the annuals rise up and create a new carpet of bloom over the daffodils for bloom until frost. I receive so many encouraging comments and thanks from people walking to the river trail or biking by. It is really a lot of fun work for me.

I added blood meal to my soil when I planted some bulbs, so far the squirrels haven’t dug up my bulbs like they usually do. I’m planting allium, daffy, anemones too. Also tulips & crocus but those are in galvanized pots. Going to keep Those in our unheated attached garage. Karin, Cleveland,Oh

Erin! You have not disappointed this last week and a half with the number of your video posts which makes me happy, happy, happy. Cannot wait to see the results of your ‘back-breaking’ hard work next spring. I have never had great luck with bulbs but do love to view the success of others. Odin is adorable and looks like an amazing gardening partner.
