Micro plastics in our environment IS a monumental problem that won’t be going away anytime soon. I think it’s good that you’re aware of it and helping educate and raise awareness. However, the fuzzy socks you use, while so cute, are plastic also. I’m not trying to criticize you or be negative-I think you’re very talented and create beautiful work. I’m just confused about why you would add to the plastic problem by consuming/buying it and then selling it, which encourages others to keep consuming plastic which will eventually go back into the environment via the landfill, where it will not decompose like something made of natural fibers would. I think you’re so creative, and glad you’re able to share your wonderful ideas with us. I was just confused about the use of those newly purchased acrylic socks, especially in trying to help the plastic problem. I’m really not judging you, I struggle with trying to reduce the plastic consumption in my life, it’s very challenging because the modern world has become over dependent on plastic, leaving the average citizen in an unfortunate quandary. It seems cheap, but in the big picture, it’s very expensive when we consider the whole cost-human and environmental costs- resources, production, unfair wages (cheap labor), shipping/carbon, etc. I hope for a healthier world for future generations, and all we can do is for each of us to just do what we can. Sorry for the uber long message, it’s just that I care about this a lot and think it’s important to talk and think about. 🌏💚🧵🪡🧶💛
You're absolutely right-I actually didn't think about that when making this video. But unfortunately fuzzy socks aren't/can't be made from anything but synthetics like polyester and elastine which makes it a tough issue. If it helps anything, my plushies last longer than a pair of socks would and aren't necessarily intended to be thrown out like single-use plastic products, but I completely understand what you're saying. In my more recent historical/vintage sewing projects I tend to use exclusively natural fibers (though sometimes I do use polyester blends because of availability or costs) so that probably makes them more environmentally friendly in the long term than some of my earlier work.
