I love comic books and have been buying, collecting and selling comics for most of my life. It can be a profitable hobby. Here I present four options for anyone who might be thinking about flipping comic books for fun and profit.

Hi! New viewer here. Interesting subject as well. I have a question: What do people care about more? The first appearance in a random comic issue or a comic issue *that was already popular* ? A good example would be amazing spiderman 361 (1st CARNAGE) vs superman 81 (1st full blacksuit superman) Both have upcoming movies in 2021, both are hyped, amazing spiderman is already popular and nobody is really buying superman 81. Can superman 81 still gain value ahead of the snyderverse trailer debut in feb.14 and the snydercut coming out in march 18? Or does a comic have to already be desirable in the first place like spiderman 361 to shoot up in value for Venom 2 (coming out somewhere in 2021) Thanks

That's an awesome question. I would say generally that hard core collectors care more about individual issues (regardless of the series itself). For example, the 1st appearance of Mile Morales is in Ultimate Fallout #4. No one cares about issues #1-3. Same with X-23; her 1st appearance is NYX #3. All other issues from that series are not worth much. Harley Quinn - Batman Adventures #12. All other issues are essentially worthless. Both COULD be good investments, but ASM 361 already is pretty pricey. But ASM 300 keeps going up, Hulk 181 keeps going up... but for ME personally, a 1st appearance of a character trumps 1st appearance of a suit. So ASM 361 + Spidey's popularity would make ASM 361 the winner on that one. (My opinion only!) Thanks for watching! Love talking comics.

How or where do I get my comics vetted for its condition to determine the price?

Good question - if they are valuable (like old 1960s high quality Marvel or DC) then you can send them to CGC to get graded and slabbed. It’s expensive. You can also list them on ebay with good pictures. You can also ask a knowledgable friend who knows about comics. You can also visit mycomicshop.com to check out the issues and condition. I am going to do a vid about mycomicshop soon

Do you think that appearances of the white vision would sell for good money high graded? If so then how much would I be able to sell it for?
@zenwatercooler
@zenwatercooler 2 года назад
Yes White Vision makes his first appearance in the comics in West Coast Avengers #45 (high-graded copies like CGC 9.4 and higher are going for over $150 US). Definitely interesting with the Wandavision show!

How do you know about knew comics coming out that may have some hype few years down the line?
@zenwatercooler
@zenwatercooler Год назад
Yes it is definitely a skill but also lots of luck. Typically collectors are on the hunt for first appearances, the death of a character, rare printings (low print runs), popular characters, and comic books that have a chance to be made into a TV show or movie (the best example is Walking Dead - the comic blew up when the TV show became a big success).

Are quality "very fine" worth getting ?

Great question - it really depends on the age of the book - like if it's a brand-new book, then probably not. But if it is a Silver Age comic, then most definitely (if the price is right)!

How are you factoring in all of the spec books that do not pan out? For every thor #1 that you flip there are going to be 10 others that never turn into anything. If you buy 50 copies of a book for $5 and it never takes off you technically lost $100 (or more)

Agreed - for the most part, I have been either lucky or smart in that for the stuff that doesn't pan out, I can at least sell it for what I paid for it. I typically try to ride the wave (so Thor #1 for example, the book was $3.99 but once it started trending up, I bought a bunch more at $7 a copy. Although I paid more, it was a safer bet because it was already trending up).

this is really good but my thing is i feel liek this mostly highlights the idea of doing CGC. obviously thats were "the big payoff" is but how about going straight raw. cgc is cool but i feel like its just something about having something and knowing u can still actually look at the pages if u soo please. a cgc to me is more like window shopping on your own product
@zenwatercooler
@zenwatercooler Год назад
Absolutely - a CGC comic is really just a high-priced showpiece, since you can't read it without destroying the case. Selling raw is a little higher risk because a "near mint" comic on ebay could be a 4.0 or a 6.0 (it's really hard to tell from pictures). I would recommend if you are buying raw, buy in lots (big groups of books) and sell individually.

I had first appearance of Shocker and Rhino, pretty early stuff (like within the first 5 issues of Spider-Man I think) I think Shocker might have actually been the actual 1st or 2nd issue and Rhino was 3rd to 5th (guessing here) I had kept them for most of my life, and when I started to rent on my own (after moving out of home) my first landlord changed my locks while I was in Hospital, and stole all my stuff. I had thousands of pounds worth of Vinyl, a very expensive Stereo system. My old valve speaker were worth grands on their own. And Ofc my Comics were in this room as well. The dude claimed I lied about being in Hospital to avoid paying rent, and took my stuff to cover the rent I owed him, Threatened me with legal action etc, so I just left it. I really wish I'd taken him to court now, as now I know I'd have won because I had proof I was in Hospital getting an operation at the time. I don't have the guts to look up how much these comics are worth now. I also had the first Symbiote suit edition after secret wars as well. I know they have to be worth something now, I just don't want to know how much, ha ha.
