The Noctua fan is a popular choice for quieter, more efficient cooling, and while this installation works for me, it does require wiring modifications that aren't officially supported. Fan Control:
In software selecting shutdown will turn off the Pi but the GPIO pins will still be sending 5v and the fan will remain on. I control my fans on/off by cycling power to the Pi when I'm done with its tasks. You can obtain USBC cables with a built in on/off switch to make this easier than plug / unplug.
