You’ve inspired me ( a fellow artist) to stop stressing about having the right equipment and creating “the perfectly recorded track!” Because your music sounds great with a cheap mic and few Fx, and here I am stressing because I’m not sure I got my vocals reverbed, EQ’d, saturated and blah blah blah’ed perfectly😵💫😂 Lol thank you; I really needed this assurance that it can be simpler than I make it and sound friggin amazing ❤
Girrrllll why am I watching this saying the same thing. I literally have all the equipment I need, including a Shure SM7B…..then I realized my issue is that I’m just nervous. And I want it to be perfect! F that!!!! I’m about to make my EP. No more excuses!!!
Don't let the pursuit of Perfection prevent you from getting your music out there. A good or pretty good track that is clean, in tune and timing, with clear diction on your lyrics will do fine. My initial compositions of new songs, with the tools I have now, are often better than the various versions I do of them thereafter as acoustic with bouzouki and voice, but that doesn't stop me from releasing the acoustic versions just to get them out there.
Very true. Letting go is hard, but perfection is rarely worth its cost. There's only so much effort an artist project can hold, before becoming a thankless task, that you don't want to work on.
As someone who is constantly fighting to make progress with not overthinking my music to death, your approach to creating your music is a breath of fresh air. I'm working on completing a project myself and I am overjoyed I found this video to remind that all that matters is the music and getting your idea and the message out there. Thank you for sharing!
I'm in loooooove with the simplicity of your process, because it's just like mine lol. I got my guitar, my casio keys, my harmonica, my ribbon mic and thats it baby.
This is so helpful. I’m going to start making and releasing music, but I’ve never produced before and have no clue where to start. Thank you for sharing all of this with us. Please make a part 2!
I know how you made an EP. Because talent will out, necessity is the mother of invention, and all artists need to express what they've got held in them. I hadn't even heard of you until today, but I'm subbed to see what's next.💛
I'm currently in the process of recording an EP with my band, and sadly its beign a frustrating process, lots of stress due to expectations and self-impossed pressure. Its lovely and inspiring to see someone creating in such a freeing manner and happily. Thanks for sharing! This inspired me
You don't know how happy I was when I saw you released Seconds because of how much a love Roadworks! I know zero about music recording but have always wanted to fiddle with garage band so I found this extremely interesting!!
Hi Jas ! Just stumbled upon your video and I’m really enjoying it. I’ve dabbled in making my own music and this is really inspiring. I think it’s funny that you were laughing at yourself as you spoke about making your recording sound dead so that you have more control over it because I totally get that ! Makes very much sense. Anyways keep doing what you’re doing ! Can’t wait to keep listening.
your voice is so unique!!! im thinking about releasing music, more as a producer than a songwriter, its great seing people learning how to do the same thing i am hoping to (:
this is actually so helpful to perfectionist musicians, i'm planning to release some music but i never recorded or produced anything before and it's STRESSING ME OUT! Hahahahaha but your music sounds so amazing, i love it! Thanks for the video, i would love a part two 😽
There is an auto master plug-in in Logic (check your stereo bus). It's not perfect, but it'll save you $$$ and imo gets the job done. Also, your songs sound great, don't stress, plenty of timeless songs were not mixed well and some even in mono. Just make songs you like, everything else comes later.
👏Great stuff. This reminds me of a project that I was producing last year by an artist very similar to you. She also used GB (now Logic) for most of her ideas before we fleshed them out in the studio. It's a great way to go. 🙂
Yes! Part 2 pls! I would love to hear how to upload my Music to Spotify and how to promote. I’m currently working on an EP and I’m so excited to finally put my art out there
There's a certain lofi charm that comes with minimal equipment! The most important thing is the actual songwriting, composition and general musicality - basically, a good song is a good song, regardless of how it was recorded. Professional mixing and mastering definitely adds some polish, and is nice to have, but not essential... I too used the AI mastering with Distrokid - better than nothing, but I agree - although the price is right, its not as good as a real mixing and mastering engineer. I wish I just had the skills to do it better myself... But I find it quite a challenge to make something sound great on all devices! Anyway, great video, and I really like your music!
although I'm not a music artist, however as a creative it is very easy to fall into the mindset that things have to be perfect and it makes it easy to give up on projects. This video is quite like the saying "wabi sabi". In my opinion I prefer when things focus on the art rather than the quality.
happy to see you on my feed again omg:) now I'm also working on my own EP/album so this is motivating haha. I am So not built for producing I feel but I love writing songs so u gotta do what u gotta do
Totally agree - all my equipment is cheap too - people making music like me generally keep thinking I need the next mic up, next piece of software, we need to concentrate on making the songs sound as great as we can with what we have
I knew a wonderful musician from South Portland Maine. Betsy Ross, she recorded her music in the stairwell of her own house! It’s an amazing sound. Just like you, no money, no studio
I'm not that musical; so, I appreciated the simpler construction and explanation. I was thinking that talent and an interest in what you do gets the lion share of the job done.
I don’t think you are doing it wrong…I’m reminded of the album “The Texas Campfire Tapes” by Michelle Shocked: Beautiful music captured with little technology. Also, if you ever decide to use more tech as a “producer” you might consider ATMOS …a great tool to explore in Logic….especially with your approach to layering vocals.
That was useful and inspiring! I need to stop nattering on myself and just record and release some songs with GarageBand. It makes me think of the Beatles who, of course, were working with George Martin from the start, but who themselves learned and grew as musicians by doing. I’m looking forward to listening to your music!
no skills? you sing well, play well, think well. dont discredit yourself! :D :D :D I don't have any music skills and I can't sing, but i make beats in ableton lol.
I can also make an EP with no money or little skills, but how do I promote it once it's done? Releasing an EP without promo today is like throwing away your entire work
great video, i'm a mastering engineer in (self) training rn and i have all of the appropriate software, you could send whatever you do next over to me and i could probably do it suuuper cheap if not free.
