I don’t know how the algorithm brought this channel to me but it’s great to see what you’re up to. I was in class 278 with you and life choices led me to leave at week 7 of phase 1 and that one choice turned my life for worse one mistake after another and it’s never been the same. It feels like a life time ago but it’s funny what an impression you made and I remember how funny you were and keeping the mood light

As a US MARINE,I went to Coronado Amphib school in 1987. I had the privilege of watching a BUD/S class start hell week. We would finish our training, and we go up on the berm and watch the buds carry the logs to the surf zone. We'd constantly be hearing bells going off, and we knew what that meant. By the middle of the week, the platoon was about half. We're going to the chow hall about the same time the buds and we would watch them eat their Chow super fast and then take a 5 minute nap. Then they go out and relieve the guy guarding the IBS. Me and a friend pretended to talk to each other, but instead we were talking to one of the boat guards, standing parade rest with an oar and his Mae West vest. He told us they were doing night navigation on the boats, and they got lost and the instructors left them stay out there allnight. He was shivering like mad. We told him he was almost there, and to stay motivated. And that we were going to be looking for him specifically to finishing the training. The day before the end of hell week, we saw instructors leading a few buds to the chow hall. They were hurting bad. And there's only like 10 of them, and there were five instructors. Definitely hardcore. Definitely glad they're on our side. Definitely glad they're part of the department of Navy along with US Marines.

I live in Seattle, WA. Went to Coronado with my ex wife 10 yrs ago on a vacation. I remember looking over at the Naval base and saying to myself, "I'm having dinner with my wife while those young men are training through hell." I've felt like such a p*ssy ever since. The mental fortitude that it takes to go what you guys go through is something that 99.99% of people will never understand or appreciate. God bless u.

I was in class 99. I retired as a BMCS / SEAL / 5326. Day five of Hell Week I was transported to Balboa Hospital with a 104+ fever. Toxix infection. Given a choice...start day one / week one with c\Class 100, or go ride a ship. I shaved my head and started all over again, Class 100...120 start, 9 originals walk away. Instructor for classes 130 - 160, Weaps and Expl Phase, was Third Phase back then. BUD/S Training iS NO FKG JOK. If, in unlikely event you graduate SEAL Training, there is another year long Special Qual Training you MUST PASS, otherwise...adios. It all just gets louder, colder, dirtier, heavier...did I say louder...oh yeah, deeper darker that comes with its own critters...the Tigers seems to have a special affinity for me, I have no idea why....hehehe.

I went through AF basic in ‘78. 12 pushups, 12 jumping jacks, 12 of everything and a quarter to mile and a half run. 20 rounds through an M16 (original M16) that jammed every 4-5 rounds. And it rained the day before the obstacle course and filled it with water and mud so they cancelled it. It was a breeze. Turns out you don’t need to be a medieval warrior to work on missiles. 😎

Great channel. I graduated 125 Nov 83. Its so funny to hear your recollections of Hell Week and 1st phase. I remember the timed runs started in soft sand, but everyone went down by the water where the sand was compacted. Log PT was a ball buster. IBS on our heads for most of 1st phase, that was rough. How about the hours long paddles to Mexico, and around the world the last night of Hell Week. Running up and over the f berms with the IBS sucked. And everything(!!) during 1st phase was a race. It pays to be a winner. BUD/S is the only training, I think, that Zero's and enlisted train together. I just found your channel and find it very informative. Thanks!

It’s so amazing to hear these stories about buds. I try to think that I could have the will power to push through buds when I was younger. Then I hear these stories and really question if I could do it. I feel that I wouldn’t be able to do it after hearing this and I would feel like a complete loser. I feel bad for the ones that didn’t make it. It has to be very hard to go through life knowing you failed at buds especially if it was your dream to be a seal.

I was stationed on the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk from '93-'98, when she was docked at North Island. I still remember seeing a buds class giving it hell when we would go to Imperial Beach. I always said a little prayer for the guys out there trying to become something more than themselves. Just like he said, everywhere they were going, they were running. It's amazing what these men have to go through, but then again, the ones that make it through the entire training, are the true definition of BADASS!!!

First day in indoc, jogged up to my class in a fresh clean pickle suit with extra starch on my cap, on the beach as they were just wrapping up abs. Formed up for a run down to the fence and back past the cays and to the Hotel Del. About half way back, being ill-prepared for boots in soft sand, nerves of being so new and a big lunch, I fell back, went to my knees and lost that lunch. An instructor kicked me in the butt and told me to get my @$$ moving. Throwing up is not a good enough reason to stop running. I remember this so vividly 30 years later because it was the first moment I started the process of realizing what I had gotten myself into.... Thanks for the walk down memory lane...

The water off the Hotel Del is always cold. Beautiful views of Point Loma, IB south and Channel Islands. I swam without a wet suit many times only got somewhat comfortable in Aug July. I was stationed at NAS Coronado and honestly loved the beach there. You could walk down past the hotel south and at chain link fence barely make out BUDs on the beach training. Every now and then their swim exercises would bring them closer up and was cool to see them getting ripped out of the water by zodiac craft.
