This is hands down one of the best kick tutorials I've ever seen. It's amazing to see how technical your approach is (I personally love that and try to work the same way). Amazing result as well with so little! I would love to see a tutorial like this for the gated Malice/Rooler kick you have in your Aggresive Acts remake, hope to see a lot of stuff from you in the future!
@gami4772

Thanks a lot my man! Technical approach = best approach imo Gated kicks are a different breed that definitely deserve their own video. I just gotta find a way to make a kick with as much though behind it as possible, otherwise I'd just be doing random steps instead of teaching a technique

Really great bro one pointer make the kick 2 bars in length this is great for pitching if it's shorter then you will run out of room where the sample is bring pitched up other then that amazing job
@gami4772

Some DAWs have the option to pitch without time stretching, that eliminates this problem. But in other cases you're absolutely right! Thanks bro

@@gami4772 np I work in FL do this is a massive problem I run into
@gami4772
@gami4772 2 года назад
Yeah it's definitely a big challenge. I think FL can do it, using the e3 mono (off the top of my head, I could be wrong here) pitching algorithm. The problem with pitching up longer kicks is that it also speeds up any automation, that could ruin the "rhythm" of the kick. Other than that, I think Kontakt's sampler works well too if you have it.

It might be a difficult question or even impossible to answer but the assymetric distortion plugin you use. How would a replication of this distortion look if you would do it in a waveshaper?
@gami4772
@gami4772 2 года назад
I could always attempt to explain, though I'll have to do a little experimenting. Which waveshaper plugin do you use?
@jonasn7535
@jonasn7535 2 года назад
@@gami4772 Well, I use FL-studio. So maybe just the Fruity Waveshaper or the free MWaveshaper.
@gami4772
@gami4772 2 года назад
I'll explain via Fruity waveshaper. When you open it in symmetric mode, there's one curve: it tells you how you shape the top half of the wave, and the bottom half follows the same curve but rotated 180 degrees. When switched into asymmetric mode, the topright half is now the curve that shapes the positive half of the waveform, and bottom left is negative. Copy the positive curve from my distortion to the topright of a waveshaper, and copy the negative curve from my distortion to the bottom left but rotated 180 degrees. That should in theory produce the same results as long as the curves do not cross into the upper left and lower right zone, and both curves always touch the midpoint. For further information on waveshaper curves, I'd recommend this video youtu(dot)be/GKAWnT1WA58, very clearly explained with visual examples. Hope this clears thing up!

@gami4772
@gami4772 2 года назад
Thank you! I started out watching RU-vid tutorials but soon realized most of them don't really know what they're doing (shout out Brutalizer & Eternize for providing actually insightful videos!). So I figured I had to reinvent the wheel myself. I started remaking professional tracks, analyzed the kicks on my oscilloscope and frequency spectrum analyzer. Learn what each frequency band sounds like and how it affects the distortioncrunch. That was the biggest step I've made: don't do random shit and hope something good comes out, KNOW what you're doing and why.

Is this also possible in fl Studio to follow these steps? I have no idea hiw
@gami4772
@gami4772 2 года назад
In principle yes, the ideas and techniques I showed are universal, as I'm not relying on a specific plugin. In fact FL has a plugin that is very similar to the one I have, Patcher. Maybe watch a patcher tutorial first to get familiar with it? As for the sines/white noise, both serum and sytrus should be able to do so. Waveshaper suffices as distortion, as long as you put a highpass EQ before it. If you have more questions feel free to ask!

@@benedictstock6539 if you need a good introduction to patcher I can wholeheartedly recommend "In The Mix" and "SeamlessR". From what I can see for the kicks mostly parallel Audio routing to various plugins, as for the few automations you can use normal Automationclips that you put into the playlist

I have quite a busy life so I only work on music 2-3 hours a day max. This specific video didn't take too long, ~2-3 days but that was because I knew what I was doing. When starting a new remake jumping in the deep end, it might take several weeks or months. I usually have enough knowledge and experience to make decent educated guesses what to do and where to start, that speeds up the process by a lot

Did you use an unconvential method when pitching the kick at 0:30? For some reason the timbre changes in a way that I didn't predict at all
@gami4772
@gami4772 Год назад
Just a very fast pitch slide, I bounced a long tail so the tibre changes a bit when it's pitched. Quite a quick and dirty fix actually..
@SynderNOfficial
@SynderNOfficial Год назад
@@gami4772 Sounds nice this way, found it very interesting. I see you hopped on over to Ableton's Live, hope you have nimble kick or something similar as Live freaks out when you try to pitch&stretch hardstyle kicks, will screw you over big time.
@SynderNOfficial
@SynderNOfficial Год назад
@@gami4772 Unfortunately I couldn't replicate the same sound after pitching it (yes, I shamelessly ripped it) the stretching and pitching you did was native to the DAW right?
@gami4772
@gami4772 Год назад
@@SynderNOfficial yeah this method does not translate well to ableton at all, I tried it in my Midnight Paradise remake but the result is... iffy. Yes it is DAW specific but the pitch slide should be as regular as it gets, there is no exotic pitching algorithm involved as far as I know. The problem is probably that there is some volume automation after bouncing (to prevent clicking in the subbass when the tail ends) so ripping the kick doesnt give you the whole sample. I never showed the process of making a longer tail because everyone uses nimble kick and its no-time-stretching pitching algorithm anyways. That's the only thing I can think of right now, unfortunately this project file is on my old computer to I can't check. I hope this helps anyway!
