How I make money as an artist

Been trying to think of ways to bring more value to those interested in my journey and have seen a few YT videos discussing their monthly revenue and how they get it. I wanted to share what a typical month looks like for me in hopes that maybe it can inspire the next up and coming artist's to push harder and surpass me.
As I stated in the video, this is purely my journey, and everyone's path is different. There's a few breadcrumbs we follow in the beginning as fledgling artists but in the end, the path must become your own.
And the irony of this all is when I was filming this video in my room, the lighting looked good on my phone but when I started editing for the next 3 hours I realized all this grain and artifacts and once again shows me the importance of lighting. So even though my income is what it is, my video quality remains in potato vision.
I'm hoping to create a multi part series on the business end of the art world but wanted to see what you all thought about this type of content. More? Less? Shut up and just draw?

Thank you. I'm 40 too and finally reached sobriety 3 years ago. I got the urge to sketch again 2 years ago and have been putting in work since. Sometimes I feel like I'm delusional even attempting to be any type of successful from art. I realized regardless of any success I may accomplish, it is nothing compared to the self worth and confidence drawing has reinvigorated my desire for life.

This is the important thing to remember. It’s likely to not make money on art, but loving the process? That is invaluable. I use art as an anchor for sobriety as well and love to hear others with a similar story. I’m coming up on 30 next year and have just now gotten to making enough OC for my primary passion - game design.

@sloppyglizzy8313 Your right. I have to remind my self of that. Congratulations on your sobriety and I hope you have a long successful future of game design.

I’m about to be 40. Former artist and musician myself…but I haven’t been able to be creative sober yet lol. I sort of gave up on it. Congrats on your sobriety

@Americaisplastic36 don't give up. It wasn't until I did 5 monitored back to back 5 gram doses of psilocybin over 5 months that my creativity returned to a more productive level since I had gotten sober. It fixed something in my brain, and I haven't had to take anymore since, and that was 2 years ago. I'm not sure if it's a solution for everyone, but it worked for me, and there's scientific evidence to take into consideration.

information matters more in a video like this so I enjoyed this regardless. However you helped me out so let me try to offer what I can. The second half of the video looked better than the first half, and if I had to guess it was because your camera is on auto settings? (6:45 where the settings just change) The first issue I noticed was more with iso and exposure settings on your camera. Try messing with those settings (if you can) and set it on that. Keep iso low, but don't be afraid to use it especially in dark settings and then balance exposure (or shutter speed if you have that option) after that. But the real part that would help the most is lighting. I know its "dark" art but some moody lighting especially pointed at the art would help the cameras settings balance out more. or if you want to none of those, definitely get a new camera. The newer DJI cameras use larger sensors and auto settings that actually work way better than they should. I literally could see stuff through the lens when the room was pitch black. Cheers mate keep going, keep growing

It's nice to see someone be so open about their fincances, without the fear of getting judged, just saying facts. I see it everywhere that talking about money, especially your own money, is taboo, and I don't know where it comes from...

I try to be as transparent as possible when I can. I feel it helps artists to have more realistic expectations of what can be achievable and that hard work pays off.

I appreciate this video from you and the work you do with mental health. I have been doing art my whole life but recently been doing more and wanting to spread out and try to start selling stuff soon. Lost my husband in 2020 and my therapist lead me back to art so it’s been a lot more of my life now. Thank you for this video and love your work. Following you on facebook and just love your stuff.

Hey Sean, what brush do you use in procreate? Is it a custom made brush or one that was purchased? I love the varying weight in lines your art has and would love to achieve something similar without changing my brush size constantly.

Out of ohio? With those dreds? and that artwork? Jesus man, talka bout living up to sterotypes. (Your dreds are cool man, and your clothing designs and other art pieces are super awesome.) In all seriousness this video helped me so much. I'm currently 19, i'm working on a comic, i'm setting things up so i can do YCHs and Comms and build an art business, so this information is super helpful right now. Good luck with your clothing business

I'm 44 and wasted my whole life on drugs because my militant Mormon parents put a religious belief I didn't believe in over teaching me economics and politics and how the world works. Clean almost 6 years and not sure how much longer I can wait tables at my age... I could use some direction.... some help here.
