Thank you for sharing this, love your work. I've just pivoted to full-time artist and just about holding it together. It's tough in so many ways but worth it.

Just going by the number of paintings sold, that is quite impressive. Teaching and commissions will likely increase over time, more than anything else - unless your prices of your paintings can continue to increase. Great videos. Cheers

Love your videos, first of all. Second: you're opening statement reminds me of an old joke (kind of...) - "When bankers get together, they talk about art. When artists get together, they talk about money" - ummm,, pretty true, in my experience! 🙂

I started painting late in life. I'm 54, and I started painting 4 yrs ago. I want to start selling my paintings as a side hustle for now . I don't know if I'm good enough. I know it's hard to get in a gallery.

So glad to hear you got into painting! You might find this video I made on how to start selling your art helpful: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iB5twDhCXdc.html I've found that working with galleries takes time. For me, it was easier to start showing my work outside of galleries. I have a video about that too: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S_C0Jc7RlpM.html

40 paintings sold in a quarter!? How is that even possible (even if your work is terrific)?😊

If I'm not mistaken, your background is economics? Perhaps one day you can make an art-specific course on how to run a business. I think a lot of painters or illustrators don't have a clue how to approach it. For example, my cousin is studying painting at uni here in Croatia (we call them art academies, and they are very old school - in the best possible sense of the word). It's hard to get in, they are taught very well - from art history to the fundamentals of drawing and painting, and beyond. They are being squeezed hard to paint, paint and paint. When they make a really good one, they are told to make a hundred more. They are also individually mentored. By the time they graduate, painting is easy for them and they can paint anything that they want because they have all the chops to do so. But still, they're all anxious come graduation date, because now they have to start making money with their art. The problem is - they have no clue how to run a business, because nobody taught them that, so they are on their own. There is a wide range of business-related topics that would make a world of a difference to them. Of course, some things are different in different countries (laws and regulations...), but I'm sure there are a lot of things that can cross over easily. I think you'd be fantastic in that role because you are a pro artist and you understand how business works. Anyway, good luck with reaching your (first) 10K subscribers!! :)

Thank you so much! I agree, it is so important to learn the business side of things, and many of us end up having to teach ourselves or learn through trial and error. I may teach a course on this in the future, for now I'll continue sharing what I learn here on youtube. Best of luck to your cousin with their art career!

Hey Christina, thank u for sharing such insights. This gives me a lot of confidence boost. Also, it would be nice if could make a video of how u started getting the traction and just connecting the dots.

Glad you found it helpful! For how I started getting traction, it is hard to fit it all in one video, but here are some videos that shed light on my process: How I started growing my instagram: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NjvSPAnc4oU.html How I started selling my work: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iB5twDhCXdc.html How I started showing my work: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S_C0Jc7RlpM.html How I started working with galleries: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2sA1ZT8YoEY.html How I became a full-time artist: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZTTcBISiIxo.html
