I have watched several videos on Slides, but you are by far the very best communicator I have heard. Your students probably have no idea how fortunate they are to have you as a teacher. I'm not a teacher, but a retired pastor attempting to make use of this technology to teach a distant (because of this pandemic) Bible Study weekly. Thank you so much, I've subscribed and rang the bell and always give you a thumbs up. God bless you young lady and your family.

I'm obsessed with Google Slides, and I've been using it for teaching for an entire year, but I still learned a few cool new tricks from this video, and I honestly LOVE the simple, yet bold design of your slides. I use templates rather than making my own from scratch, but I think I might use yours, even though I'm a history teacher! In particular, I love the idea of a single Slideshow for each unit. I've been breaking up my Slides by day, and every time I do it, I groan internally, thinking that all of these are going to be so hard to keep track of next year. Keeping all the units in one slide and hyperlinking the lessons is FREAKING BRILLIANT. Plus it saves me time of having to reformat all my text/backgrounds etc!

Thank you so much! I am a high school English teacher. I was tormenting myself with tying to come up with a simple, yet visually appealing google slide deck for my classes. We also use Google slides at my business to make our flyers, pamphlets and other printed materials. It allows you to position objects wherever you want even up close to the edge and it will still print. There are a lot of native printing options that all work very well. The finished product usually looks great! On a separate note I make a table in my first slide and put hyperlinks in each cell. Each hyperlink can link to a youtube video, another slide in the presentation, an audio file (directly in the slide) or a google drive file. This is great for big presentations. I have a presentation with over 800 slides and this helps to navigate within it while also bringing in other materials from outside. Great video!

Thank you so much. I'm a veteran teacher 6 years from retirement. I've been using slides regularly in my lessons for about 3 years, after getting Smart TVs in our classrooms. Your slides are so sharp. The techniques are reasonably short to make such professional, appealing slides. I have been a faithful Arial user, but your display of Oswald and Century Gothic makes me think otherwise. Thanks again!

I would like to thank you for this tutorial. I have identified you as one of the presenters I can actually learn from. As a middle school reading language arts teacher who teachers 3 MODS and 2-grade levels I wanted to take my instruction to another level for distance learning. We just started a new unit and grading period so I found this video at the perfect time. I literally listened, paused, created, paused, listened, paused until I created slides for lessons 1 and 2. I then created the hyperlinks by listening, pausing, applying what you taught and so I am on my way. I have already subscribed, liked, and will share as the RELA Department Chair for this year. God bless you and thank you again for who you are. I really needed a new level of educational inspiration...I FOUND YOU!!!!

You may know this, but there is a link button up on toolbar, makes it easy. Also a AWESOME little trick I have learned to make font larger and smaller much much faster is to hold down on the shift and ctrl buttons at the same time and push < or > to make smaller or larger. SO FAST and EASY! Great tutorial. I also love adding transitions to mine, with the answers, especially for math.

THANK YOU so much for this! I'm starting at a new school this year and will be making slides for my lessons for the first time, but have been so overwhelmed with where to start, how to make it cute and how to make all my presentations cohesive (but not run myself into the ground or waste all my time doing so), etc, etc, etc. Your explanations coupled with the screen recordings were so clear! I REALLY appreciate your time and thoroughness with this video. So helpful!

Hi, Michelle! great tutorial...just a thought...instead of taking the extra steps of creating a bar for your title and then another text box where you write the unit and move things' order....which takes time....why don't you just format the text box...it's done in the power point...I'm pretty sure from what I saw on the screen it's done on google slides as well. You know...just write your text, and then format the text box, fill it any color you want, and change the font color...

I really like your slide prep here! I m curious about the colored slides - do you use all colors in EACH lesson? If so, I am curious how you progress through the colors when there may not be 7 different activities in a single day? (IOW would you give your rationale for the use of the colors other than knowing when you are coming to the end?) Each of my units conveniently contain seven lessons...so I was thinking of using one color per day. Thoughts?
@sarahnorton8513
@sarahnorton8513 4 года назад
Really great question! I'm curious about the answer as well :) I would imagine that could be helpful for students for the reason that you suggested, in being able to quickly judge the pacing of the lesson as it is occurring...I would have LOVED to have that feedback during the lesson in my experiences as a student, and I would imagine that many other learners would appreciate it similarly. My thought about the rationale if a justification were needed for the use of color progression would perhaps be to help learners with diverse needs that may struggle with transitions (ie. Autism, ADHD, and even learning disabilities in general)...not sure if that *is* her reasoning or not, but it's just the thought that came to mind for me and seems like it would be a valid way of justifying it as evidence based if necessary (at least in a general sense, if there is no evidence in support of color progression specifically [I have no idea if there is] I would feel like just the help in visual transition for students with learning disabilities would be sufficient justification if one is needed). I'm super curious now actually, haha...I really want to research more into the color progression in lessons, this is the first I've come across the idea and I love it so much! I'm sure it seems silly to be this excited over color progressing slides, haha, but as someone with ADHD, time can often feel very abstract to me and any strategies that help to make the passage of time feel more "tangible" are super helpful for me. Being able to have such simple visual cues integrated into the lesson would have helped me better conceptualize the pacing of the lesson and therefore help reduce anxiety and increase my ability to focus on the material being presented. I missed so much content in school because of my focus legit being on focusing/mentally processing that we were moving on to the next subject and only realizing that the lesson had started when it was already halfway over! I realize it is a fairly trivial detail, and judging from the other comments I'm reading, I think I'm the only one geeking out so hardcore over this, haha, but I guess that is part of the reason that I felt like sharing my experience, because maybe it is insignificant to most but if there's a handful of students who would benefit as much as I feel they would, it seems well worth sharing about, especially considering how easy of an intervention it is for educators to include! It seems really cool to think that such a simple method of using a visual countdown could be embedded within the lesson itself, rather than *solely* relying on interventions directed specifically at one/several students, in a manner outside of the lesson. Not only could the visual cues help students with the pacing of the lesson, but it might also be helpful as a natural "countdown" for students who struggle to cope with transitions (such as those with ASD). I'll stop my geeking our ramble now, haha...I get excited by random things, thanks for letting me share. :) Also, just wanted to mention to anyone who might try this out (and just in general), don't forget that some of your students may be colorblind. Be mindful as well that different people can struggle with different colors, so if two people are colorblind, one may be unable to differentiate between two colors that another person who is colorblind can differentiate. Not necessarily relevant for this topic, but someone I love experiences colorblindness and he was often met with teachers who lacked understanding, and admittedly, I never learned anything in school for education about accommodating those who cannot see the full spectrum of colors, so while it seems fairly "common sense", it seemed worth mentioning that if a student says they do not see a color as different from another color, they likely are telling the truth and see two (or more) colors as the same, so just work with them and don't hold someone accountable for something they have zero control over. It can get particularly tricky, because there is no internal way for the person who is colorblind to know their perception of a color is faulty. Not necessarily relevant for this particular thing, but it could be, because while it doesn't typically matter if someone sees the slides as going from orange to red to pink or if they might see it as 3 shades of red, some people may not see 3 shades/colors at all, they may see all 3 colors as the same shade of the same color, and they have no way of seeing that everyone else sees 3 different colors when they see one. The student could end up in trouble if they are then told to start at the red section, and their eyes see the orange, red, and pink sections as the same shade of red, so they would start at the orange section without knowing that, to everyone else, it is orange. My brother is colorblind in atypical ways and ended up getting a lot of teachers angry at him, despite him explaining that he is colorblind, so just a random PSA in case anyone reads my ramble and might otherwise not know how tricky colorblindness can be for those experiencing it ;) Thanks for reading :)

Lol, I thought an “I can” statement was like a positive affirmation for the students until I saw her type it in and realized it was what we call “a learning target” here in CA. Comment what you call it, I would love to know!!

In Australia, more specifically the state of victoria we call it a learning intention and rather than starting it with "I can" we start with "we are learning to..." and then follow with success criteria "I can do..."

@@jessicamacdonald5151 In CA we do the "I can do..." as the only one. It's interesting how we have some things in common, but it always varies a bit from place to place.

You know, when you made this video, I wasn't super concerned about my ability to create high quality slides. We had everything we needed for teaching provided within our curriculum. But now many of the lesson materials aren't as helpful, because they were designed for teaching in the classroom. Being able to create my own high quality lesson materials for distance learning is essential. Thank you for this tutorial!

Wow! I always watch makeup videos while getting ready for school....so glad I was curious this morning! This old dog has been limping along with basic google slides , with some days, not even limping, but completely stumped or uninspired (especially with those colored themes 😕). I can’t wait to take these tips and incorporate them into PearDeck, which is what we teach with, so our students can interact and still “socially distance”. I am definitely going to check out more from you channel. I am a perfect example that learning is fluid and should never be static! Have a great day shaping lives! 🍎 🍏

Wow! We are moving to complete online learning and students will need to be able to download their work 1x a week so it can be done at home without internet. We have been trying to figure out how to create something that only needs one download but includes several assignments. You are a savior!

+Pocketful of Primary Can you do a video dedicated to Google Slides Hex Codes?
@anissat-tech

Hexadecimal Color Code applies to color in *any* digital display... Google away! Try typing in any 6-character combination using 0-9 and A-F, and you'll get a hex color! For example, my favorite shade of Gold is #FFCC33. ;) Hope this helps!

I always enjoy your videos. I like your idea of resizing the slides. I just added a icon at the bottom of the last slide of each lesson to link back to the table of contents slide. Thanks again.
