Hello I started sewing when I was in third grade. I used to love sewing I made my own dress when I graduated from middle school. Sadly I have sewn nothing since I picked up a crochet hook 4 years ago & I would like to make my own project bags. One of the issues is I bought a new Singer sewing machine with 100 stitches it intimidates me, I have to learn how to use it. Thanks for this video. 👍🏻💗
Hey Sherry Thank you for watching it makes me so happy to know you’re having another go xx you will be fine my darling it’s all about gaining your confidence back to use a machine again I too hadn’t sewn anything since my children were small and most of what I did sew was by hand but 8 years ago I moved home and decided to have a go at making my own curtains I bought the cheapest brother sewing machine I could and had a go xx you don’t know what you’re capable of until you have a go thank you so much for your interest ❤ and please do let me know how you get on either in the comments here or DM me on Instagram ❤
Excellent video. I started sewing project bags for myself about a year ago. I’m glad to say that I sew them much the same as you, but I did pick up a few new things from this video. So, thank you very much. Hope you are well. Take care.
@@sandidew3033 hello back at you 😀I’m so happy to have you here and thank you so much for taking the time out to stay and watch, I know time is such a precious thing these days x I’m glad you enjoyed the video xx 😘have a great weekend xx 🤗
@@yewtreeyarncraft973 Unfortunately I am suffering from a migraine today so it’s the perfect day to watch all your other videos too! So glad I found you! I’m really enjoying them.
Everybody starts from somewhere, you're doing ok, it will get easier. Ther'll always be someone making negative comments, just take it on the chin & don't allow anybody to discourage you. Best wishes Jen in Reading UK. X
I really like your teaching style and your gentle tone - this video was very easy for me to follow. I heard you say that the fabric doesn't matter. I agree, for the outside of the bag. I do wonder whether you're more picky with the lining? I ask because I want to make some project bags for my crochet WIPs. Right now I use whatever bags are lying around, and I've noticed that some fabrics pull at my yarn, which I don't like. Any tips?
@@rebekahr5367 hi Rebekah, thank you for watching and for your lovely words. You are very kind 🙏 you are right your lining does need to be a fabric that will play nice with your yarn too, the one I used on this bag was a chenille hence, I wanted the shiny side down, so it would be on the inside of the bag Try a cotton sheeting, it is a lighter material and not sticky.. but on the outside of the bag you could use any fabric you have available to you. I am a little picky with fabrics , but thats because I sell my bags in my etsy shop soI want a quality priduct,. For my own personal bags , I use whatever I have laying around, If you can find a second life for a fabric then go for it and have fun with it . You can sometimes pick up some nice fabrics to re purpose in charity shops, and curtain lining make for a good lining material too. Hope this helps my lovely and thank you again ♥️🙏
@@ElaineP49 Hey there Elaine thank you so much for watching it’s so lovely to get good comments and new followers I’m so glad you enjoyed the bag making I’ll doing some more of those soon xx have a great weekend ♥️
This was a fantastic video, lovely. I will never attempt to make a project bag - my Flying Piggies one from you is by my side as I watched this. I would love to see a similar video of your yarn dyeing too. Much love to my best supplier of all things knitting related! jinny
Hey there Jinny Thank you for watching you are too kind and yes I’ll do a video of the yarn dying too I’ve had a couple of attempts but I couldn’t get the right angle but I’m working on it xx stay well my friend love an hugs 🤗
@@susangodier7156 good morning Susan Thank you so much it’s lovely that you want to make a project bag 👍🏻 I love my machine it’s a Brother Innovi-is A150. I struggled threading my old machine. This one threads for you and even cuts the thread at the end it has lots of programmes and mine came with a free quilting kit, for free motion quilting and a range of different feet. Let me know how you get on with making your bag, you can send me a message on instagram with your pic @yew-tree-yarncraft Have fun with it xx
Great tutorial. What kind of machine do you have?it seems to have no problems with these really heavy materials. Do you recommend it. One thing I discovered if you make your bag 3” -4 “ taller than it is wide you can do a wider box on the bottom without having it narrow down so much. So if you do a 16”W x13”H you can do a total width of 4” but you won’t get that narrow bottom.
@@juliecarrolltontx2948 hey Julie thank you so much, that’s really helpful I’ll give it a try on my next project bag I do seem to do them either 12”x12” or 14”x14” I used to have a brother it was very basic but it did everything I needed but I’ve got to the stage in life where I needed it to thread itself 🤣 so last year I bought the brother A150 Innov-“s I tried it out in the shop along with a Jukki and a Janome which both had similar features but the-other two were a little more expensive and they didn’t auto thread and I have to say I highly recommend it I love it and it copes with everything I need it too, and it came with a free quilting kit, which is going to be my next rabbit hole I believe 🤣🤣🤣 xx have a great weekend and thank you again 😘
@@judystone3645 oh thank you so much for your comment Judy that means a lot 🥹 I was very nervous of making this video I film on my phone and struggled to get a good angle but u think it turned out ok for a first one xx have a great day xx
@@ottobird1 hi the camera angle is from the side of the machine which is the only position I could get a decent view but u will try to improve in to Thank you for watching x
@@131dyana hi there Dyana, thank you for watching the video though maybe in the future, we all get better with practice my darling xxx 😘 have a great week
aim your camera to the front of the machine rather, why the back of it? and then when you are pulling your fabric out of the back of the machine ( why? your feed dogs do that work ) your arm is in the way.
Constructive criticism: show a finished project first. Explain the project parts. Introduce each new element of the project. Speak up and we need a face shot or something in an intro.
@@zormier2002 hi Tara Thank you for your feedback I’m new to the how I make things videos, so your comments are very welcome thank you I was very nervous about showing how I make my project bags as there are so many tutorials out there, this isn’t a tutorial though just how I do mine ☺️ I also need to get a better camera angle it’s hard to position so I’ll be looking into that too x thank you and thank you for your time xxhave a great day
You’re doing great! And it’s nice to see that not only a 25-or-so-girl sews… (And I particularly liked you didn’t rush trough the project. I will absolutely do something similar for my project bags.) Sorry that I don’t subscribe to your channel but I don’t crochet. ;)
