How I Make Rice Porridge || First Time Making Rice Porridge

🍃Ingredients
2 cups rice - I used long grain rice, I think short
grain would be better( Use rice of your choice)
2 1/2 cup coconut milk or plant milk of your choice
Roughly 5 cups water in total
*** cook rice in 1 cup coconut milk and 3 cups water. Once rice cook add additional coconut milk and 1 cup water. The remaining cup water was added after adding the blended rice to the pot.
1/2 tsp salt
2 bay leaves
1 cinnamon stick
1/2 tsp allspice
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tbsp vanilla extract
Coconut condensed milk ( I used 200 grams can natures charm coconut condensed milk) You can use whatever brand vegan coconut condensed available to your or use another sweetener of your choice.
***I also added some raw cane sugar for added sweetness.
Cook porridge over a medium heat. Once done turn off stove and sweeten porridge.

We Puerto Ricans also have rice porridge we call it arroz con leche but I haven't made it in so many years I use to make it for my children but their all adults now and watching your videos I think I'm going to make some today..👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👌👌

Looks good. My mom used to make it with left over rice or cook the rice and leave overnight then use to make the porridge. 💕

Short grain rice would be better either brown or white works. The cooking time varies.

Just like you I had it when I was small but the other day I was yearning for it so I tried a thing. I cooked the rice first same as if I am steaming rice but with a lot more water and then blended it. I Then used that base to start my porridge.

Good job. Next time blend the rice first or do it in a food processor first so it isn't whole rice. It doesn't need to be really fine but it will cook better if you process it first.

After the rice cook u could have strain the to separate the liquid.

Yes that too. I just shared it that it's would be best if she cook the rice first then start the rice porridge or just simple use left over rice. Then she can mash it out if she want. The aim as mommy taught me is the naturally creamy flem the rice have like when you boil dumpling. That white outer coat and when too much water in the at the start and it don't boil out it don't get that and so that goo is not in the proddige.

You can use millet or basmati rice. They are less starchy.

@@AuthenticPlantbasedEats the reason why the rice never come together when u check is because by right u make rice porridge using left over rice or crack rice. When u make it with uncooked rice u can blend it yes but not with a blender (short hand method yes, but...).... u don't have to.. what u do is cook the rice first (hence why left over rice would be best) and then when it cook take it and clump it then mash it. That's how u a creamy consistency and more saucy unlike what the blender does.. return it to the pot then start the porridge process. Just to let u know.. that's how my mom taught me. That's how her grand mom taught her and my great grand mom was born in 1879. So it's history of authentic Jamaican stuff passed down. If u do it howbi tell u will realise as u eat it it have a gummy and nice goo texture to it.. another thing the mix spice.. If u use the mix spice u don't need to use cinnamon and nutmeg extra because it's there. Mix spice is three main ingredients ... nutmeg , cinimom and cloves. So you have to watch that as well, especially in porridge and stuff that doesn't require the cloves. nothing wrong with a bit extra nut and cin however make sure the mix spice isn't for baking (especially) because then it may have staranyis and orange and more such spices which can ruin the porridge. But the simple mix spice is also redundant when u use a lot cininmon and nutmeg but also important to then use a lot at the same time to take the cloves favour out if it in a way.. It doesn't changes the flavour much but just letting u know.

Hi and thank you! I purchased it at a local health food store here in Florida( Nutrition Smart). The brand is Natures Charm. It can be purchase online aswell. Walmart and other local supermarket carries coconut condensed milk but in a different brand.
