An FYI: It’s possible to convert your HD master to a 4K copy without noticeable degradation, according to a top RU-vid creator. It doesn’t take much more extra time, but might benefit your channel in the long run. Good luck, I appreciate your channel. Keep up the good work.

@@missioncreekstyle3814 I'm not sure. I'm going to keep shooting with my cell phone. I can make a video everyday. Or break out the Sony a few times a month. It's just such a pain. Even that top of the line lens doesn't really work in low light at 4k. You really need a tripod. 4K is nice, but it's a real pain for on the go.

Yes, I just copied the idea from some better channels. It's a few extra steps to edit. But, if you shoot in order, it's no big deal

I hear ya, but there are many large channels you might be missing out on. I have videos on Mexico that have 350k views. I'm still the same guy. I'm just getting started in the Thai market. Other guys have 100 subscribers, and they will try to sell you a "Live in Bangkok" course. So check it all out. Hopefully, my videos will help with your trip. I love Bangkok.

@@Going2bangkok Ya man, I put on a Spotify album an get to work at night. I was at Cowboy with buddies watching the England game. Then I took off at the half. I'll edit until 6am or so. Maybe get two videos done. Sleep until noon. I have to meet buddies around two. For sure, we'll grab a beer. Maybe I'll do some interviews once in a while. Mix in a change.

I purposely don't do an intro. I might do a 2-second logo. I just say hello and immediately tell you what I'm doing in the video. If I see a 10-second intro clip, I just click away. But, I hear you. Something to think about

Also, not sure your storage capacity, but 4K footage is a storage hog! I will lean towards 4K videos, but you get a pass for whatever you decide to do!

@@Marinate305 Ya the 4k also doesn't work as well in low light. These are just amateur videos. It will be 1080 until I have to change. Or 4k is easier to deal with. Maybe at some point I'll put out one video a week. Then I'll make the switch.

Yeah, when I record the screen. it's set at 24fps. I need to change that. But, I was shaking to show it would flicker if you didn't hold still in low light. Not intentionally. I forgot the screen is set at 24fps. Normally, the camera is at 60fps. When I showed the laptop, it must have forced all to 24fps. Oh, well. I tried.

@EagerExpat just finished it. It's a great video, yo,u worked hard, ironic it happened on this video. The thing is reading lots of your comments, even the people with large screens didn't even notice 😊

@@No_Strings Ya I was trying to wiggle around to make it flare to show what not to do. I totally forgot the laptop screen setting was at 24fps. The entire project must have matched to 24fps. Hopefully, the shots were I held still didn't flare. It looked ok on the laptop in review. When I crossed the street at Sukhumvit, the green light was jumping all around. It's hard to move in low light, even at 60fps. I wasn't happy with that laptop mic either. Oh well. Maybe in a few months I'll make a cleaner video on starting a RU-vid channel. I'm probably not the best teacher on the subject. I'm just a rookie. But that's ok.

I speak and film each clip at the same time. I then might shoot some B role immediately after. That's easy to keep track of. It's all pretty simple. The few times I separate video and audio, it's a pain to match up the video and audio. I've did it, but it's not my 1st choice.

I'm no expert because I have a Florida address. I just use Turbo Tax online. All the W-2's went to my buddies house in Florida, but I didn't even need them. It's all at OPM. If you haven't retired yet, be prepared that Lite Blue goes away the day you retire. Copy any of those forms you may need. I would guess maybe a mail service might be helpful to keep a US address. Once again, I'm attached to a buddies place. Rarely does anything go there, but I do have a Florida drivers license. I hate to say it, as an old mailman, but it's all online. Careful with the Social Security if you use a foreign address. check out Foreigner Joes latest video. I guess they send a letter once a year to see if your alive. I'm assuming that's only if you use a foreign address. Again, I'm not really sure. Catch you in November. If your only in Bangkok a few days, let me know when you firm up travel plans. I take a lot of dive trips. I'll write down when you are here, so we can get that beer. Ok man, take it easy.

You know I'm just a rookie. I thought the 12 and 64 were the lens options. I think I use the best lens. I should have mentioned you can't zoom in low light. That lens stinks at night.

I'd guess those people were not monetized. You need 1000 subscribers. They are probably just fans. Other larger channels will play music and not make any money on the video. They try to make money on Patreon, buy me a coffee, pay pal, etc.. Other than the reaction guy, you can't use copyright music, movies, TV, etc.. without an issue. It's all bots listening to the video. Unless you talk over, they'll get you sooner or later. They usually give a warning and 24 hours to get rid of the music. Otherwise, it's a strike. 3 strikes, and the channel is done.

It's both. You need 1000 subscribers and 4000 hours of watch time in a year. Then you qualify to join the Google AdSense program. There are a thousand variables on the amount you earn. A very rough estimate for a Thailand channel is $5 to $8 for every thousand hours watched. A financial show can advertise more expensive products. They might get $15 to $20 for every thousand. So you need to maintain over 1000 subscribers and 4000 watch hours. RU-vid doesn't care how many views you get. They care about how long they watch. They also care if you then watch another video. Hopefully, one of mine. If they see this pattern, they show your video to new potential viewers. If you drop below 4000 watch hours a year, you are out of the program. I'm not sure if you need to maintain 1000 subs. I might not even have this correct. I just put out videos and they give me a little beer money. If it drops to zero, I'll still put out the videos. But, it's a tricky combination. Subscribers are important, although 70% of my watch hours come from people that are not subscribed. Views are important too. But, if you click on and leave in 5 seconds, that doesn't help me get to another thousand hours viewed. I put out an 8 minute video one day and a 40 minute the next. I can't show Soi 22 in 8 minutes. So it is what it is. Plus, a view in the US or UK is more valuable than a view in Sri Lanka. If you had a travel show that was 100% watched in Sri Lanka, you might get $1 for every thousand hours viewed. I'm just guessing. There is no scale to check. RU-vid can charge Ford Truck more than a Thai shampoo company. Like I say, it's complicated. But that's a basic idea.

If they own the music. Many of these artists sell the rights up front for millions. The music company then takes a chance on future earnings. So XYZ music company might own the right to collect for RU-vid. My buddy was in the concert business. Most acts tour to earn money. They don't earn on album sales. Again, they might have earned that up front, and spent that money five years ago. Touring is expensive. Most acts break even on the concert and make the cash on the $100 T-shirt. It's like McDonalds. They lose a dollar selling you a burger, but they make 900% selling you fries and a coke. Other acts (I think Queen) sell the music catalog once it's established. Then you start hearing We Are The Champions on every car commercial.
