On a recent backpacking trip to the great Smoky Mountains national Park I show how my gear fits into the backpack as I break camp on Mount Sterling, campsite #38.
Many years of practice have gone into my current gear set in an attempt to use non toxic natural fibers as much as possible. You will learn in a few minutes things which took me years to figure out. Simplicity and effectiveness are what really count when it comes to gear.
I take down the tarp and then organize my clothes and gear into stuff sacks. I explain how my gear system works and give a good picture of how it gets packed. On this trip all of my clothing is natural fiber, which consists of merino wool base layers, waxed cotton pants and shorts, wool socks, and a waxed canvas rain parka.
I explain my minimalist shoes and how I walked the first two days with leather barefoot sandals. You get to see every last item getting put into the pack as I explain what it is and how it is used.
Almost every piece of gear (90%) I made myself. A lot of these are also available for sell at Lucky Sheep, such as the wool sleeping bag, waxed canvas rain parka, and waxed canvas backpack. www.lucky-sheep.com
