I wanted to run the Midstate for the third year in a row but the military put me out in western NY. So, I'll be running a 50 miler out here at the same time you guys start tomorrow. I'm going super bare bones on this one. Just a vest, nutrition and an extra pair of shoes. It's all road miles so it'll be the Torin 5's as well (same colorway as yours). Good luck to everyone racing this weekend. May the weather forever be in our favor!

Good luck Dave for the race this weekend. Talking about T8, while I am not sure, the company seems to be based in Hong Kong (where I live) and the Sherpa Shorts is super popular here. It is cheap and causes no chafing. I have 3 personally and definitely like it. I will tty out the Lululemon shirt. I learnt from one of your old videos about injini toe socks and they are my go to now. Thanks for your recommendation 🤝

I highly recommend Leukotape in lieu of duct tape when treating blisters or larger wounds. The Leukotape stays stuck to your skin, even when wet, and isn't too difficult to remove when you're ready.

@@ChaseTheSummit I got the headlight with a deal on Amazon. Absolutely love it! Thanks a lot. It has all what I needed + extra battery life + red led which is absolutely awesome when I run on the track in total dark and my eyes adopt to dark environment. Great video - in the UK, in some races, they stipulate that we bring hard copies of the maps and a compass for navigation when technology fails. Are you planning to do the same or just rely on the gpx file?

This race isn’t in the backcountry but the trails can be pretty tricky to follow. I’ll be relying on my watch and GPX file to guide my way.

I've only ran 100's which... have taken longer than 24 hours but not an actual "24 hour" challenge. I can't imagine it would change my strategy too much unless it was a small looped course in which case I might ditch the hydration pack in favor of a handheld if the aid was a short distance away.

Beginner question: why do folks use vests instead of a traditional CamelBak/bladder system during ultras?
@ChaseTheSummit
@ChaseTheSummit 2 года назад
For speed. Flasks are easy to take out and re-fill at aid stations without removing your vest. With hydration bladders it's a more cumbersome process. I also like how I can distribute the weight of the water with some in the front and some in back rather than all of it in the back which can put added stress on the shoulders and make you feel back heavy. It's all personal preference though, lots of people still use reservoirs!
