I've watched about 10 of your videos todays. I was looking for guidance on which paniculata hydrangeas to get for my garden and your videos were just what I needed to narrow down my search. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and your gorgeous gardens. I look forward to more of your videos.

Tracy, if you’re ever in the US I’d be happy to mail you Evelyn cuttings. Your videos and responses have been so helpful for me.

Thank you 🙏! You are so kind. Unfortunate for us, only grafted roses can survive our cold Canadian climate. Evelyn’s is so pretty and rare to replace too.

Hi Tracy! I love the new additions. My motto is the more hydrangeas, the better! That DA rose is so pretty, I'm still a little shy about adding roses to my garden because of the maintenance, but that rose might be worth it. And I really hope you did not throw away the peony. The reason it didn't bloom is because it needs full sun and it seems like the surrounding plants are shading it. So I hope you moved it to a sunnier spot rather than throw it out. Peonies are so beautiful and fragrant, plus zero maintenance!

The white peony was taken from the field where our 1st home was built on some 18 years ago. It was our 1st home and garden and I try to take a piece of it for memory and I think you may be right about it not blooming because of sun. I gave it to my brother and so I can enjoy it’s blooms there! 💚 ps. He had a lot of garden space and loves peonies too. Thank you Suzie & Happy gardening!

They also won’t bloom if they are planted too deep, the buds or eyes should be no more than an inch below the soil.

There always seems to be a daylily or a peony in the way.

That rose, even on the David Austin website says it grows like 8 feet high and 5 feet wide. How odd that their own tag says something very different!
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden Год назад
I think you are right about the tag on DA website. I also notice the tags are also different for all my other roses as well. Could it be they adjusted the size based on our cold Canadian garden zone? We do have a much shorter growing season and colder winter which tend to cause the DA roses to have lot of cane die back? I’m not sure but it will be an interesting experiment for me to find out how tall and wide A Shropshire Lad will grow. 🤞🤞🤞 Happy gardening!

Your garden is lovely, however , you need to give the David Austin rose bush more space than what you're currently planning for it. Roses thrive with good air circulation.
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden Год назад
Thank you for the suggestion and I do agree 100%. 👋 Based on the tag, the variety I have grows 2 ft wide (for our northern Canadian zone) - the space I have is more than sufficient. I rarely get any rose fungal diseases and etc - indicating that the plants do have enough air circulation. 😁…or it could just be my luck that the varieties have are disease or fungal resistant? Or our summers are drier than other regions? My Lichfield Angel roses (three of them) are planted the same distance apart and thankfully they are doing very well. In terms of why the Evelyn and Lichfield roses died here is a mystery to me. I think it may have to do with animal digging behind the fence and under to roots - but I don’t have any evidence so I cannot conclude why. If you ever see professional rose gardens - they plant their roses very close to get the beautiful full effect. Also, many large rose planters often have 2 roses plant side by side for the same full effect as well. For those that garden in our region, ours roses suffer a lot of die back due to our cold winter so many of the roses don’t grow very big thus we don’t need as much space compared to gardeners with longer growing seasons. Thanks again & Happy gardening! 💚💚💚 Ps. I’m 😮not sure what I will do if the rose grows to 10 ft tall and 5 ft wide (as indicated on some online website)…the the space I have will most definitely be too small for it!

@@TracysHomeGardenHi Tracy, I’m in Toronto and I think they do they a little bigger than what the tag says if they really like the spot. You can always prune out extraordinary growth though so you may just have to remove some leaves/spindly growth at the base of that happens. But A Shropshire Lad is so gorgeous he’ll be worth it!!

I love the color of the rose bloom it will go well with the clematis near it. I just bought my first clematis and it's a pruning type 3, are all of you clematis the same pruning types or are they different?
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden Год назад
Thats wonderful to hear and I know you will love it. I have Piilu and Westerplatte that are type 2 so they bloom on both old and new wood. The others - Giselle, Cezanne, Sarah Elizabeth - they are type 3. Type 3 flowers on new wood so you can prune it right back to the first healthy bud (about 12” off the ground) and they will grow and flower for you. Happy gardening 💚

4:51 how much sun are you offering the peony? For mine (zone 6 Rhode Island), it’s offered full sun and does great!
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden Год назад
I think it is full sun but it may be shaded by the taller plants in front of it. 😳 It’s a beautiful white peony that I had for 18+ years. I gave it to my brother and planted it in his garden. I planted it in an open sunny space. Hopefully it will bloom.

Hi, one should not plant a new rose in the same place were a rose has been in the past. Watching the video I wasn't sure whether you did this or planted in a new place.
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden Год назад
Hi Pauline, I planted it about 6” to the left of the dead Evelyn rose. I don’t have much of a choice. 😳 I hope whatever that was killing the roots of the dead rose won’t affect the new rose. 🤞Is that what you mean to not plant new rose in the same spot? 😳 Thanks Pauline! 🙏

Hi, Yes, that is what I meant. I hope that the 6 inches is enough. I guess time will tell. 🤞By the I love your garden. I have bought a number of hydrangeas because I see how lovely they look in your garden. 😊
