I’ve seen all your videos Rick and these “how I play golf” videos are some of my favorite videos you do. I watch them all the time. Please continue to do these in the future. Thanks!
This is my favorite kind of vlog, I could watch an 18 hole version of this easily no matter the length. As for the older putter, I've been playing 30 years and only ever used 3 putters: Ram Zebra, Odyssey Rossie II, and now the new Odyssey EXO Rossie; they all still work very well and I like the heavier weight over the modern ultra light shafted ones.
In 20 years of golf I have played with one putter. I have actually taken several years off twice and got rid of my clubs. When I picked up the game again I went right back to my Ping Anser putter (albeit I had to buy a used one each time I came back). I have had affairs with different irons but not the putter
The most important thing which I’ve learnt is to not let the bad shots affect your mindset, I hit a bad shot then it gets in my head & it just starts a spiral of bad shots. Great video.
Thanks Rick. I'm with those who could watch 18 holes of this. So helpful. I need to work on reading the greens. Love your method. Would like to know more about how you estimate the amount of the break given the distance to the cup and what you're feeling with your feet w/r/to the slope. Thanks so much!
Me : sees the video only fans tinders.club/AGNEZ " Alright I think that's enough for today " My mom: makes soup Me : OK IM DONE Ello everyone if you are bored comment in my comment cause I'm also bored. :)..
Love these kind of VLOGs.... Biggest thing I can take to my game immediately is taking the time to visualize the shot you want to make, and taking the time to read every putt. Keep up the content!
After watching this video I figured out the recipe all good golfers use, 50% technique, 25% analysis and 25% confidence. Rick is really sound technically and analytically but I noticed if he’s not completely confident in the shot (especially the putt) it rarely goes as planned. Definitely taking this formula with me next time I play a round.
Hi Rick, I love these "how I play golf" videos. One thing I learned is the self talk you used to reset your mind after a mistake. Very encouraging and staying even keeled.
Your How I Play Golf videos are the best! Gives us all insight into your thought processes and how to think out each shot, as well as recover from a wayward one, or two. Your best advice: Play each shot as a separate entity, isolating what you have to do as opposed to what you've done. Always look forward; never look back. Great video Rick. Thanks.
Love these types of videos. Gives us an insight to what your thinking on each shot. I will take away playing one shot at a time and not to get carried away with a good couple of holes. Looking forward to seeing you play more golf.
I remember DJ topping a fairway wood last season, but followed it up by ripping his next close to the pin. Post round interview he was asked about the duff and he remarked how he hits loads of bad shots, but then he made sure the next shot was executed well. Not letting the bad shots affect you is the difference between us mere mortals and the best golfers! Great vid.
I totally agree with you. A bud of mine who is a much better golfer than me was having a solid round and shanked a long iron on his approach into a par 5. That would have ended me. Mentally I would not be able to shake a shank. I would be always looking over my shoulder wondering when the next one would strike. But not him. He drops, steps up and nuts the next one. I wish I could pull that off!
this series is a part of the reason I fell in love with golf, before I got out on the course for the first time I looked up your tutorials and it made me want to jump out on the course. Please continue making them!
One of your best videos, Rick. I really like the on course analysis. What I picked up was 1) visualizing my shot and 2) letting go of the mishit and working forward without looking back. Keep them coming. Thanks.
I love this kind of more raw vlog format & so glad you didn't montage it shorter with music and editing. I will remember to gripping down to adjust for ball above feet lies, you've covered that before!
100% relatable. Playing great, then I go for green in 2, top it, and gain back all the strokes from previous holes. Then I'd be too aggravated at myself, turn off the camera and focus to salvage the score best I could. Love your videos. I've played over 20 years and still learning from you.
Your videos always make smile. What always comes across is you love of the game, even when the shots go wrong. Live the mixture of miracle shots and tops/slices. Keep doing what you do. I’ve just booked a tee time.
What a great video to see in the feed, this content is great. I think I speak for a large portion of your audience when I say I would love to see more course vlog style videos Rick!
Excellent video Rick - especially found the section where you mentioned not trying to over diagnose reasons behind bad shots and allowing them to get into your head really helpful!

I honestly just love vids of you just golfing! Its just fun to watch! Definitely helpful to really think about every shot you hit, visualisation is key!
Rick, you are my hero. If you're ever in New Hampshire let me know and I'll happily take you out for a round. Thank you for making golf such a fun, accessible, life-consuming hobby for us lay people!

These are my favorite type of videos that you do Rick! I like how you kept your composure during the highs and the lows. I need to implement that in my own game more.
I like this format. The talking as you play the shots it helps to know how you prepare and what you feel after. I’m happy if you do a couple of 9 holes. So 18 holes over two videos. Thank you Rick. ⛳️
Me and my wife are gonna play 9 hole this weekend for the first time ever with some 2nd hand clubs that I got. Your vid’s are wonderful for me to watch and to understand what to think and do on the course. Even watching you explain when to use what club is great info! Thank you!! Subscribed to you!
Love this style of video! It’s showing me how to a approach playing a round. You’ve definitely showed me how to think each shot through and weigh up your decision and also how to better read the green
A great video Rick, for slightly advanced players these are much better to give them the feel of planning a hole and then going about executing the plan. Also how to recover in case the shot has not gone the way it should have. Continue such practical videos , much appreciate your efforts in making these very professionally. 👏👏👏
Head down, hit, then look… AFTER THE SWING. Best tip ever from Rick man. It will make your swing straight.. especially with 7-9 irons. What I learned from this video… feeling the green with your feet. Gonna try that this season (northern US golfer here) And to those that are hard on yourself.. bogey golf, IS good golf
Liked the format. Great tip on targeting and visualising the shot. “Seeing” the target and path of the ball accurately is something I tend to forget. Well done. Glad you left in the bad shots. Golf’s a humbling game. Best of luck for the season.
Best I’ve seen you play for a while and it’s start of the season. When you’re on you’re on fire! For me it looked like you were aiming off line when you missed the green? Liked there was no distraction on this one. Appreciate the walk through! Big help cheers
This is great. Been watching your other videos to help fix my game. I like the line of "don't prepare your speech", so many times I start out well and get all in my own head about "my best round". Slowing down and just doing one shot at a time will help me the next time I start par-par-birdie so it isn't followed by a friggin snow-man 8.
I agree with others. I have watched almost all your videos and really enjoy and learn from this type. It’s helpful for new knowledge and reminders of things forgotten. Keep up the good work!
Love to hear your mentality when the shot goes off from the plan. Biggest takeaway is the attitude you address the “new shot paradigm” with. Simply put, it’s the next shot and you handle it accordingly. Lots of fun to watch, and thanks!
Great video again Rick. As others have said, your "how I play" in addition to Break 75 series are my favorite golf videos on RU-vid, hands down. Love hearing your "shot talk" and it reminds me to have (and listen to) my own inner monologue. To slow down on the course and plot and execute my shots for better play. Although pace of play is important, hitting the right shot after thinking it through is just as important. Really looking forward to more course vlogs and the return of Break 75. Cheers on the S.I. 1 Birdie. Bet that felt great.
I'm very new to the game. Started about 2 months before winter hit so I haven't been able to get into a course. It's nice to watch these to get an idea of what to expect (roughly).
Loved your comment about not over-analyzing a misfired shot mid-round. When I did that in the past it just blew my confidence the next time I pulled that same club. Now I just “Let bygones be…”
Appreciate the commentary throughout the course- extremely helpful in how to improve my short game. Thanks for the “inside” view and hope to see more like this!
Yes! Good to see these videos. They are exactly why i subscribed in the first place. I just love the every shot sets the next challenge mentality which really helps focus in my opinion. Nice to see a refresher today.
Another great video Rick! Since I returned to golf from a spinal cord injury I’m now an adaptive golfer. I play to a 6.9 index but want to lower my scores. Course management videos like this are a great help to me achieving that goal! Thank you! 🙌🏻🙏🏻
Really enjoy the course management videos. After years of struggling with driver I have taken the decision to bin it off, invested in a 5w and seeing how that goes. Can't wait to get going this season!
Of all your videos, these are my favorite kind. I enjoy your swing technique videos, progression tips, club reviews, and all that jazz. Lately, shot-by-shot explanation videos are where it’s at for me. My goal is for this year is to break 100, perhaps 90 if I push hard. Thanks for all you do, Rick! 👍
Your walk through of your thoughts on how you play each shot is something I have never do, I am adding so many strokes to my game because of it. I need to do more critical thinking like you did on each and every shot. Great to see. Thank you
Watched this and then tried to implement the 1/2/3 fingers for reading a putt. Usually take around 19-21 putts for a 9 hole round. Went out yesterday and had 15, was incredible
Still a very green golfer, and I love the real scenarios you find yourself in and explain through. Anyone can go to the range and learn to hit flat, straight, wide-open shots. This is more helpful for taking it to the field.
I truly enjoy these types of videos, Rick! I learned a trick on choking up on the club to get a more normal feel while gripping the club tighter when you were on that tough lie right outside of that bunker. Will apply it to my game for sure! Thank you!
I really appreciate when you talk through your thoughts for every shot. It's helpful to me that you take into account the mindset you should have when approaching certain shots. I definitely get ahead of myself after a good string of holes and start to fall apart. Love this style of video and I can't wait until "Break 75" comes back!
Good video. I liked what you said about “staying in the moment” and not getting too far ahead of yourself. Also, not trying to diagnose a bad shot mid round, which will only get in your head.
I love these vlogs, could watch them all day - understanding the thought processes and course management tips, etc., is great content. Well done as ever Rick!
Love these videos. Going to try to not let the bad shots affect my round like last year. Keep it up Rick! Looking forward to your upcoming videos this year.
I'm always trying to not let the bad shots affect my mindset (like last year lol). Have you ever read the book "Golf Is Not A Game of Perfect"? If not, it is a useful read for the mental side of the game. Wishing you well out there!
Loved the video - I also bought an old 2 ball odyssey putter. Played with it yesterday for the first time, felt very confident with it, definitely a keeper!
Great seeing your run down thought process of each shot Rick. Super video. Very helpful to understand what should be getting accounted for during a round. As much as I love seeing you, and others, step up to the ball and hit a seamingly effortless belter, it proves very educational to visually see what we should all be considering when setting up to strike the ball. My aim now is to act on this and take a little more time when assessing each shot during a round. Cheers man, keep up the excellent work 👍. Looking forward to the Break 75's!
Huge fan of this style of video, Rick. Great to really get into your headspace, and super helpful for an amateur like me to get the full view of what goes through a pro's head
Really really enjoyed this content Rick! Interesting as a new golfer to know what you experienced guys are thinking especially on the green. Keep up the good work!
This video feels like your old OG videos! Love the style of the video. So much to learn if you talk about your thought before the shot. Hope to see more of those in the future + we need more matches! Mano e Mano!!!!
Hi Rick, after watching these videos and have changed my ball from Pro V to Wilson Triad, I have just shot 3 over on my home course thats about 6 shots difference! Cheers
really like that little trick of moving your hands right down the shaft on that shot just outside the bunker. It's always a tricky shot when the ball is at knee height. Also the tip that you gave of visualising the path and shot you want to make before hitting it. Brilliant video Rick look forward to more content like this 👍
great video. With the game coming around I see a round with Peter Finch in your future. Maybe bring back a version of the Golfbidder Challenge where you each pick each other's clubs?
