In this video you see how I prepare my keg before kegging a batch of homebrew. Showing you how I clean and sanitize the parts of the soda keg and itself. Kegging the Pale Ale, made out of an extract kit that Home Brew Online provided me for testing purposes. Will do a review about this beer in a couple of weeks! Cheers everyone!

I saw the foam and said to myself "don't fear the foam". As I thought that, an ad came on. The first words I heard after the ad were "never fear the foam" :D

I love that you're still rocking the bucket fermentor despite being knee deep in homebrewing. My buddies harass me for not switching to carboys but I still haven't been convinced that it makes any considerable difference on the outcome of your beer.

I do this before putting it away but i use oxyclean free, then rinse a lot, then put it back together. on kegging day i do everything you do except brushing and taking appart the valves, as i cleaned them before putting it away, this way when you are kegging and you take appart the keg again then you could end up with leaks when the beer is already in the keg. just a suggestion, otherwise you are very thorough Glenn which is good!

I save it a couple of weeks but I am sure it can be stored for a much longer time. This is a good question and everybody will give you other advice. Please feel free to search a bit around! I did a PH test on a cloudy Starsan solution, still PH 1 and it was about 3 months old ( only for testing, didn't use it for sterilization ) and I guess it still will do it's job right. On the other hand, with one bottle of Starsan you can make so many spray bottles that I regularly dump it. Just in case..

You are correct, that's even better... Didn't thought about leaking gas problems after you comment this. Till today ( so even this keg ) I don't have problems with a good seal or something like that. I am using oxyclean to, this time it wasn't necessarily for a couple of reasons. Next time I will mention that using oxyclean while cleaning the keg is even more better. Thanks for your comment and cheers my friend!

In my opinion is clean and store it the best way. I am sanitizing my equipment right before I am using it, the idea of sanitizing it right after cleaning and pressurize the keg will work but it's not the usual way that I know. Affect the inside of the keg? Not with Starsan but there are a lot of chemicals doing right what you suggest. Just read the manual of your sanitizer :-) Cheers and thanks for the comment!

@homebeerbrewery
@homebeerbrewery 11 лет назад
It depends, usually I put 3 Bar on it for 12 to 24 hours and let is sit in the fridge. Force carbonation can be done much faster, like shaking the keg on 3 Bar for about 15 minutes. I like my beer very carbonated so maybe I am pressurizing it to much, just experiment with it! Cheers

Great Video, thank you! I also do rinse all my equipment with clear water, I wouldn't wanna have that much of any sanitizer in my beer, even if it says that it is fine.
@obeahsf
@obeahsf 9 лет назад
Keep in mind that once you rinse your equipment with tap water it is no longer completely sanitary. Liquid lines of all types (including water) contain all sorts or critters. Chances are you'll be fine, but you stand the chance of contaminating your beer. StarSan and Iodine based cleaners are fine below listed thresholds- even better if you let them dry thoroughly.
@obeahsf
@obeahsf 9 лет назад
Michael Meier I would, however, empty the StarSan from the racking cane into another container before starting to fill the keg.

Very helpful video. So you dont need to rinse the sanitizer solution out of the keg before filling it or rinsing it from the lines before using them? Also, when carbonating the beer, is there a method or "rule of thumb" as to how much pressure and for how long? Thanks
