We do a mass meal prep for the weekend before NaNoWriMo. It's awesome that it's on the weekend this year! We take most our favorite normal dishes (like spaghetti) and turn them into casserole bakes that we cook, then partially freeze and cut into squares, and bag or store in the freezer. It makes November so much easier! This year we'll be making Thanksgiving dinner over a week since we can't meet up with anyone this year. No stress Thanksgiving is the goal. Super Excited for PREPTOBER!

You, ma'am, have my aesthetic. All I was thinking "ahh, she has Hello Kitty and stationary everywhere like me" "ahh, I have that Chococat coaster on my desk too." Thanks for the tips! I'm planning on participating in NaNoWriMo this year too. It'll be my first real year doing it but I've been doing good enough with writing consistently that I might be able to get through it. My only real problem is the fact that I overthink while I write, leads to cleaner rough drafts but it makes me stupid slow sometimes.

I was thinking of taking a year off from writing because I just finished a four book series that I published in 2020. However, watching this video has me rethinking (at least NaNoWriMo) putting up my notes just yet. I have a book I've been working on for a while now (actually for NaNo 2019 and Camp NaNo 2020). I think it's time I tried to, at least, finish the first draft. The book is "Belles, Books, and Cupcakes" and it's the sequel to my published novel "The Magnolia Moonlight Inn". Thank you for the inspiration!

I'd never heard of nano until two days ago and I didn't know about their site until when I bought scrivener yesterday and they sent me the link. I stumbled on your video 35 mins ago and thanks for all the info. My prep is going to be slim this year but I'm joining in for the experience. I had thought that goal was unachievable until I did the math on the daily word count and then realised it would definitely push me in the right direction. I don't think I'll be a winner this year but it's going to be a "good ride" and set me up for winning next year. I'll know my software better then too. Thanks for the resources and good luck people for nano

I just happen to be working on book 4 right now. It's not because of Nanowrimo. I just write and don't keep track of word count. Story first. I love Alphasmart.

As always Sarra your such an inspiration. You are my fairy godmother always there to guide us. The next quarter is going to busy but one thing I know I want to commit too is participating in NaNoWrimo, I plan on writing book #2 in the serious so I do have a lot of preparing to do. I haven't thought of a tittle yet but I know it will come soon. I am really looking forward to diving in and preparing thanks so much for your downloads and I look forward to more Preptober videos so until then happy writing and preparing!!!!

The REALISTIC time goals are so important! I've been taking part in NaNo about as long as you have, and this is the first year I'm being completely honest with myself about not writing every day. I've planned around all sorts of stuff and even just gave myself a few days off BECAUSE. Good luck, lady!

Awesome tips! I've attempted NaNo a couple of times but never finished. I always start strong, but lose momentum about 10-15k words into it. It seems like November is always the craziest month for me, stuff comes up and once I fall behind it's hard to get the motivation back to try and catch up. On top of that I'm terrible at planning so when I lose momentum I also lose track of where my story was going, which makes it even harder to pick it back up. I love these tips, and I'll definitely be doing most/all of them this month to try again. I think planning for some missed days will be very helpful, as well as making a meal plan so I can know exactly what to buy and what to make on which days. Thanks for the inspiration!

Your video caught my attention as I was trying to find videos on creating an outline for Nano. I have one of those word processors too! Only in the battery compartment, the little spring broke off and now it's put off to the side until I can find someone who would know how to fix it. But it was so useful! I was considering painting mine just when that happened. I'm going to subscribe to you and look for the free print outs that you have set up. I've been working on a preptober notebook but I think I could use some extra help with an outline

Darn, I was trying to see what your 50K reward was! :-D I may actually try to go for it this year. One year I tried and was sabotaged after a very good start. This year, I'm hoping not to have any distractions. I've been working on editing a novel, but I have some niggling ideas that just won't be quiet, so this would be a good excuse to work on a fresh rough draft of one of those during November and then get back to editing.

Hey - something a little weird about this video. I watch with headphones in and for some reason, the right volume was way lower than the left. I've checked and it's not the headphones. Everything else sounds normal. (But as per usual, great info! Thanks for the video!)

I'm super psyched... more about Preptober than NANO ;-p. I love the planning stage of a novel. I've got notecards, and stickies, and colored pens and highlighters... sigh!!!! I'm going back to my roots and writing modern fantasy romance. It'll be my third book in a retelling of the Knights of the Roundtable. Sir Geraint is the hero, and Lady Enid is the heroine. It's an arranged marriage, road trip, marriage in trouble tale and I can't wait!!!!!!!!!! I'll probably be a NANO Rebel and start writing at the end of October.

You can also use Nanowrimo to edit and revise your manuscript and set editing goals instead the typical word count goal.

No. Don't worry about editing. The word count is the number of words you wrote, whether you keep them later or not.

You can always set yourself a lower goal - even just writing 50 words a day to get in the habit for when you can participate fully. :)

@@LindaDeeTee thank you, I just wanna do it so badly, just to test myself but no one in my family takes my writing seriously and I don't even know if my mother will let because it's 'social media' and I don't have Internet on my tablet. Basically I'm religious so it just causes a lot of problems especially if my parents will see what I'm writing because I like to write romance, add Lgbt characters, and write about mental health situations too- but even tho the odds aren't in my favor I really just wanna test myself (aka I enjoy torturing myself lol its not even funny tbh)

@@Leah-vb3ud that's definitely a challenge! The good news is you don't have to do the actual writing online. It's fun when you can talk to others and such, but for now, try writing your novel long-hand in a notebook. Physical writing is great for getting the creative brain working. Update your word count if you can online, but if not you'll know you can officially do it another year. Hang in there! I know it can be tough when you and your parents don't share the same values. And I know how long it feels until you're old enough to strike out on your own. But you can still be part of NaNo even of you never join the website. You're a NaNo-er in spirit. ❤

Leah First off, write what you want to write, it’s supposed to be fun! Also, when it comes to your beliefs and what you write, do what you feel is right. A lot of people feel comfortable writing characters and worlds that have different beliefs than they do, and if you’re fine with that, then go for it! If not, is there a way to work in the themes you care about in a way that is aligned with your beliefs? (I’m assuming that you believe what you believe, and it’s not 100% pleasing your parents... If I’m wrong, that point might not matter as much.) You don’t have to show your work to anyone if you don’t want to/if you feel like it’ll be more negative than positive. And you’re doing more than I did at that age! :) With regards to social media, do you have irl friends who are encouraging/supportive even if they aren’t interested in writing themselves? Maybe they can be good allies in cheering you on, and giving you a place to share your writing. Social media isn’t a requirement to write in NaNo, so don’t stress about that! Also, practice makes prefect, so even if you’re writing isn’t great now (hence why some people don’t get it), challenging yourself to write anyways means you WILL get better! (Mine has a long way to go, but that’s okay! :) ) I really hope you have fun, writing in whatever way you want to!

@@My_Royal_Life thank you so much!I actually mentioned rhe contest to my mother and she said 'maybe you should do schoolwork instead,' so that went well (altho my grades are relatively decent), I do have some very supportive friends and what I decided to do for now is try for 500 words a day and for the online tracking I'll have to figure that out separately and yeah my religious beliefs are quite different and it shows in my writing but I'm trying to push past what my parents think and work hard with myself because I love writing and I can't let that stop me, and thanks for all the support/ advice, very much appreciated :)
