I completely agree with you. If a book doesn't resonate with me fairly quickly, I give myself permission to stop. ( Even book club books. 😄) Life is to short to read books that hold no interest.
Really enjoyed this video. I used to read so much more, and it’s been harder and harder to concentrate. Loved these tips to fit reading back into my routine. These tips can also be applied to studying for a school or work topic, which I’ll be using. Love that you mentioned (for general reading, not required reading 😊) that you don’t have to finish a book! I used to struggle through some bad ones-why waste your time? Come back to it later, or don’t make yourself feel badly. Thanks!
I've been reading a book a week this year, similar in that its a mix of non-fiction (biographies, growth/learning) and some fun fiction. I use the Libby app to listen when I'm driving, exercising and when I'm doing dishes or cleaning house. If i can get outside with a physical book, i try to do that too. ❤
I use to read all the time. One of my goals for 2024 is to read a book a week. I have all these books I bought….haven’t read them 🙃to much time spent scrolling phone ,Ect….sometimes life is extremely busy. But this is great ideas…thanks for sharing
I always have at least five books going all of the time. It drives other people crazy, they just don't get how I don't get lost or confused, or forget what each is about. For my part, I don't understand people who don't/can't do this. 😂😂
Outside of textbooks, I've never tried reading more than one book at a time. Have never seen any reason to. If I'm enjoying a book I want to continue it until finished.
Different times and genres for me. Morning is technical to enhance work skills, mid day is personal development to refill my bucket, and evening is fiction for entertainment. I can read any of those books during "extra" reading times
I have always loved reading. I can thank my mom for that. I have vivid memories of her reading books to me as a kid and she always encouraged me to read. She always had a book nearby and read regularly herself. (❤) My friends don't get it that I enjoy reading more than watching a movie but my imagination can always create better images than anything a camera can film and when reading a part of me is connected with the story more deeply. I have a hard time with audiobooks because I easily get distracted, even for just a minute, and then realize ive missed too much and feel a need to stop it and go back which J find too frustrating. Trying to get better at that. Would really like for you to do a video on practices you take to get the most out of your reading time.
Reading before bedtime is not a good idea for me because I don’t put the book down. Lol Sometimes I’m still reading at 2am. I’ve started to set an alarm when to close the book, and just meditate for a bit before I fall asleep. Although I do push the snooze button quite often. 🤪 I will try to get up a bit earlier and read for a bit in the morning.
Thank you for this video! Just what I needed to hear as I've been in a bit of a rut and find myself on a screen more than in a book. I actually JUST started reading Atomic Habits last night, very excited to read it. Also, one tip I learned a long time ago- listen to audiobooks on 1.25 speed (or faster if you can keep up!). Helps push through if it is a book you're not 100% into.
Back in high-school and middle school I would read a book a week and 2 more over the weekend, it was pretty standard for me, but now I'm not able to keep up with how many I read a week. Sometimes, I'll go through 7 in a week. Other times, I won't read for several weeks. My annual reading goal is 100 books a year, and I almost always hit it despite the weeks where I just don't read anything.
I have been oscillating between 2 books 1 being the new book by Neerja Bharadwaj (a respesteced journalist from India) and the other being grimms fairy tales. Also if you want to listen to a well narrated audiobook, then you can check out the jeeves series and the blandings series narrated by the legend Stephen Fry. Although need to pick up pace. Will try your advice.
Hey guys if anyone sees this please reply, what is the best way I can get in the habit of reading . It’s really want to want to do but sometimes I just can’t focus on reading , I’ve tried different personal finance finances books that’s what I’m currently looking into any recommendations or book suggestions?
I like this comment, engagement. Library. You will pick one. Leave books on your coffee table, I see people decorate their home this way. One by your bed and one you carry on you. I don't do audible as much bc I'm concentrating on my work.
Go to Latin Mass become a traditional Catholic it changed my life completely... Watch Father Isaac Mary Relyea, Sensus Fidelium, and Dr Taylor Marshall, btw Harry Potter is from the devil... I will keep you in my prayers
Over the years you've given out some great and informative information. The one suggestion that has really change my life is where are you suggested journaling. You can find out everything in your life journey by writing down positive and negative, and yes I do read daily😊
Now I'm 🤔. I thought you said utube helps you not be depressed? And where is your interview with someone? And no newsletter this week? Are you all over the place?
speaking on books, a great movie is "the page master" where a kid passes out in a library and he end up going on a beautiful journey, highly recommend.
When I was in my teens I love reading books, now that I’m 42 I lost interest doing what I do when I was a kiddo. I’m more thinking about my finances and money.
I limit myself to audiobook summaries, once per day or so. I found a YT channel that does them under 20 min on topics I like called 'bookshelf nugget'. Then on top of that I might read one book at my own pace.
I have been reading a book a week myself. I've found books throughout the years at thriftstores, yardage, or free somewhere. My collection is huge yet I hadn't had time to read. But now I have a job where I have had time. It is life changing. 3 books in 3 weeks. I started off with 200 page books now 300. I'm also obsessed with the knowledge and getting it finished asap. Also I wrote a book. I got approved for self publishing. But I really want to be found. So I ask you Mr intelligent man do u know any pathways to make this a reality. Get published? Do I go the agent route or the new fashioned Amazon way. I'm in pondering mode on this. Please reply. I'd be so grateful. Thank you for sharing yourself with us. Also the emotional intelligence 2.0 how was that? I need to level up my EI 😂
Hello Gabe, Fantastic video. I started reading as well about 3 weeks ago and I'm aiming for 1.5 weeks per book. On a side note, could you fix the link to the books you are reading??? It takes me to a shady website 😅 Thanks again and big fan all the way from Nicaragua 🇳🇮
Off topic but where do you get those coffee cups from please? 😍 Loving the simplicity and authenticity of your channel, it’s exactly what I’ve been hoping to come across now I’ve educated and outgrown the usual “guru” type channels Thank you
I saw Extreme Ownership in there..... love that book, it sits by my work computer and I'm getting my full team to read it and do a book club. I also have The Almanack of Naval Ravikant on deck in my Headway app, if I like the summary, I'll likely buy the whole book
Wait, do you think cryptocurrency will crash? I dont think so. More and more companies are integrating cryptocurrency into their operations: Amazon, Cannafarm Ltd, Burger King, even Starbucks, dude!
Your insights are fascinating. Our faith-based channel focuses on Airbnb passive income. I appreciate your valuable insights. Keep up the great work with your educational content!
I get your newsletter and listened to the interview that you mentioned and really enjoyed it. I've not heard of either of those men. Thanks for the recommendation.
every year, this is my goal, but I end up stopping it as life gets in the way. So I start this again and take this vid as a challenge. I used to travel weekly and utilized podcasts and audiobooks while traveling. Post covid, i no longer travel as much and my reading, listening to audiobooks and. podcasts has stopped. So now, I'm going to try the 30 min in the morning and in the evening for learning something new. Here's hoping the habit sticks.
Are cryptocurrency and business incompatible? I think youre not keeping up with the news. While you thought it was impossible, some enthusiasts from Cannafarm Ltd integrated cryptocurrency into the production of medical cannabis. What do you say now?
I read 4-5 books a month which I pick at the beginning of the month when I am planning my month.I vary between fiction and non-fiction, but I don't read two at the same time. I tried it and it wasn't satisfying for me. I read less because of it and so I changed it back to only one at a time. With non-fiction I read daily, with fiction I plan less but longer sessions to immerse myself better into the story. Reading is great, thanks for the video. :)
I've been reading about a book a week for the last couple of years. I tend to forget most of what I read though, so I think it's also important in the case of educational books to write notes on key concepts that you can apply. Otherwise, I find they become hazy. I still don't feel any smarter after all the reading, but maybe it's a more subtle change. I switch between science fiction/ fantasy and educational/ science/ philosophy/ self help.
Great advice and so true that reading can really change one's life. Not related to the video, but I think it's cool you're in NH. I grew up in Manchester.
