The Two Notes Torpedo Studio has been my main recording solution for guitar amps in my studio for some time. The Two Notes Torpedo interface is a way to run a valve tube guitar amp at its optimum level without having to mic any guitar cabs. In this video, I explain how I use it to record all of my studio guitar work as well as these Studio Rats RU-vid videos. The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

Super useful video, I used it as inspiration to come up with presets for Wall Of Sound for my Marshall Silver Jubilee Mini and now have some of my favourite tones happening. Thank you!

Great sound and playing. Did you put a DI box between the Torpedo's line out and the audio interface's input to record your sound, or do you enter the interface directly? Thanks

Hi Paul great video. I use my Amp1 Mercury with HX FX by Line 6 using 4 cable method into a Torpedo Captor 8 and into my interface. I either use Torpedo wall of sound or STL NAD Ir loader and then 3rd party Impulse responses. It's so flexible today to work in this way and I have a small studio so it works really well for me. Cheers.

Great as always, Paul. Which amp were you using with the TwoNotes? I have a Captor X that I use with my Mesa Lonestar and have fallen in love with the tone into my daw. Love it as an attenuator as well.

You have such quality content and playing skills you should have a much wider audience. I've been watching and occasionally commenting for over a year and I still learn something every time. Perhaps some crossovers with other notable RU-vidrs or musicians could increased your viewer base and hopefully give you the boost up to where you should be! Cheers.

I play straight from guitar to my boss katana so all this is totally new to me. I f you do this so you don't have to drag big speakers about or you can get great sounds at home on low volume. But where is your sound coming from ,does it still needs speakers , be nice if you would do a beginners guide to this to explain . Many thanks

Hopefully this doesn't seem like too goofy ofa question: Do most all AIs work with amp modeling software and other VSTs? I've used a Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 for my synths and keys setup for awhile now, but have always used only hardware for my guitars. I'm wanting to try out using the guitars the way I do my keys, but wasn't sure if all AIs are created equal, so to speak. The new AI I purchase will be on a totally separate computer or I would just use the 4i4 for it, as well. Thanks in advance. Love your channel!

I’ve found the Wall Of Sound software unstable on my Mac. Seems to sound different from one moment to next and the stereo sounds a bit weird. On a good day can sound great, but have opted for the Iridium, which I don’t think sounds quite as good but far more consistent and less faffy.

Hello there, Is there some effects on your system? Like a delay and reverb? If so, where is that coming from and where the effects are? Before or after the torpedo studio in the chain A pedal or digital effects unit ? Thanks man
@TheStudioRats
@TheStudioRats Год назад
There are delay and reverb are coming from an UA Apollo interface.

Paul, a specific question relating to the Amp1 in this context. Obviously, you can use the blubox direct from the speaker output. Are you running the torpedo studio from the amp1 speaker out. Will any reactive load box work in this way? I really like the GGD Zilla cabs from Nolly and would love to use these with an Amp1. Advice on the way to go would be brilliant. Thanks
@TheStudioRats
@TheStudioRats 2 года назад
Yo Ginger. Yes you run it from the speaker out into a load box. The Blubox is not a load box as such as if you were using a valve amp you still have to have a speaker or load attached. the Amp1 works fine without a load apparently. If you just have an Amp1, you could turn off the speaker emulation on the headphone out and use the GGD cabs in software on your computer.
@GingerLeftyGuitar
@GingerLeftyGuitar 2 года назад
@@TheStudioRats I didn’t realise that you could turn off the speaker emulation on the direct out, but I remember Thomas Blug saying that going from the speaker out yields a better tone. Cheers for the quick reply.

Why don’t you use the UAD ox?
@TheStudioRats
@TheStudioRats 2 года назад
I do, the Ox is fantastic, it’s just that the speaker combination that I’ve got in the two notes I’m able to run as twin cabs

Hi Stevie, I’ve asked two notes many times to send me one for review. It seems that the UK part of the company needs a bit of a kick up it’s arse.
@steviesedge
@steviesedge 2 года назад
@@TheStudioRats that's a pity. I think what I like about the studio (i don't have one) is the running 2 cabs and being able to pan left and right, which trumps the twin tracker on the Captor X, which seems to add an unwanted chorusy type phase type effect.

I've just set up a basic home studio to play and record guitar. It began because I wanted to be able to get a great guitar tone at a low volume, and this seemed like the solution. However, with a guitar plugged straight into my audio interface running a few different third party amp sims in Logic Pro, the signal is clipping at a really low volume and I can't figure out a solution. I have the input gain on the interface set correctly (a red light comes on if set too high), yet the volume and drive of the amp sim has to be set very low in order to get a half decent tone. Do I need a DI box between my guitar and the interface? Any suggestions would be appreciated 🙂
@thomaslthomas1506
@thomaslthomas1506 2 года назад
A DI box with a transformer and XLR out is a real plus. Something with and amp sim/cab sim is a real plus. If you are on a tight budget. I’d recommend a zoom G1 4 (not sure the exact model numer but that’s close). I have one running into an imp at the end of my chain and it goes straight into my interface. The zoom box also has a limiter in it I suggest using it at the end of the chain. It stops the clipping and gives the signal some yummy sag. Hope this helps.

I’d really recommend looking at Scuffham SGear, it sounds great and you can adjust the input volume on the plugin.
