It can be difficult. But you can add saturation within the plug-in, which removes some static noise. Noises from the piano itself is harder to get rid of, but you can reduce the high end with EQ, I sometimes do that 😊

I used to use a cheap work lamp but around a year ago I purchase some pro studio light - the Aputure 300x with an Aputure Softbox :) Awesome lamp!

I’d like to get your thoughts on the Garritan CFX vs the Noire Pure. I was also wondering if it were possible to send you an audio file. I have a couple of piano melodies that I’ve been thinking about adding orchestral layers but I’m not very experienced with layering. Would love to see what you can come up with

I always play with the default curve when using my Roland keyboard. When using my NI controller, I need to lower the velocity response otherwise I play way too loud 😅

I'm not sure what you mean about duplicating the piano track for the reverb? The string section is something I carefully orchestrate using my knowledge of music theory and just experimentation on what sounds good :D

Sounds from the sustain pedal are included in almost any software piano you can find! So it's added automatically and you can adjust the volume or remove it completely.

Im thinking now changing from Steinbergs The Grand 3 to CFX concert grand to make piano sound softer. Dont know does it help or is there some other techique?

I definitely think you should try another vst rather than try to alter the sound. All piano vsts sound very different, so it's about finding the right one for your music style 😊

What exactly is the person doing when 'mastering' your track?

It can be everything from advanced stuff to pretty basic operations. The purpose of mastering is to bring up the volume and make sure the track sounds good on all types of sound systems. I think usually a mastering engineer applies limiting, eq, stereo widening, and probably more stuff if necessary. The interesting question is whether we can hear a difference - well people with trained ears definitely can, but I sometimes find myself unable to honestly. But still thinks it nice to know that the track has been in hand of a pro engineer 😊
