Hard to think of anyone else in the chess world who fits the description of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. A Russian in Germany when WW1 breaks out. An Aristocrat In Russia when Communism breaks out. A Russian in France when the country surrenders to Germany in 1940.

Plus he was not a Doctor in anything. Dr Euwe yes (mathematics) but Dr alekhine no (allegedly law)

@@eudesgeoffroy8416 Stupid! Alekhine was an educated man and did have legal training which helped him in his later life in denouncing virulent jews and their defensive style of chess.

Max Euwe was certainly a good sport. No excuses, no recriminations. Bobby Fischer once said of him: “There’s something wrong with that man. He’s too normal.”

Back when chess players displayed dignity and grace in defeat. Now we can pretty much count on seeing the Tantrum Child act.

Interesting to see this, but the title rather implies an interview with Alekhine, which would have been very engaging.

Бесценные кадры! Грейс Висхар, супруга А.А.Алехина... Могла ли предположить эта одиозная женщина, что впишет свое имя в летопись шахматной истории!?
