FINALLY a "concealed carrying for runners" video that actually shows someone running while using the product! I've been looking into a lot of different options and this was the most helpful video I've come across - thank you. It doesn't seem like the crossover between distance runners and concealed carriers is very big (yet!) so it doesn't seem like there are many good resources out there. Glad you were able to find something that worked - my primary concerns are also the bouncing and printing, since I run at a fairly quick pace and also live in a very warm climate.
I experienced the same frustration when I was trying to figure it out. Sometimes product reviews would have people running with them, but they’d run away from the camera so you couldn’t actually see what was going on 🤦🏼♀️ I’m glad this one was helpful!
@@kyriewoodring1951 it’s been a few years since this video went up, and I don’t really run distance anymore, so I can’t really say. However, there are some distance runners in the PHLster Concealment Workshop on Facebook that have shared their experience training for marathons with their enigmas. I’d suggest joining that group and looking into some of their experiences for a more informed opinion 🙂
This is a great advantage of the Enigma over other holster set ups. My life is like a work out because I have two young children. I’m always lifting one or both of them. Wrestling can happen anytime too. The security of the Enigma is very appreciated in these situations.
Dave, I've thought about the Ruger LCR, but I am wondering if the steel part of the weapon (eg cylinder, trigger) rust from sweat. What's your experience, please? Thanks
@danahowerton9638 when i run, I now carry a small pouch with an index card identifying who I am and my drivers license # in lieu of carrying my actual license.
Good video. I agree the Enigma is a welcome solution to the issues you encounter when exercising and carrying. I have struggled with the leg leash. I have large quads and when I squat the clip has a tendency to release and then you find yourself with the leg leash hanging down from under your shorts. I have tried the mule tape which was an improvement but just ordered an Enigmod leash from Rego Concepts. If I can solve the leg leash issue I will be ready to make the Enigma my every day holster.
I think it is great advice.Alot of us women can be in danger running, power walking on our own. It's good advice to feel safe when doing these activities.👍
@@Glock19ATL So sorry to hear that.If your in a state to carry a gun than do so.Make sure you research into the right gun to carry and learn about belt holders for women while you're running or even walking.I always say it's a little like sky diving.Your not going to jump without research and training. If your running with the gun remember it's loaded and you don't want anything to go wrong with the belt. (Your safely is important learning to keep the gun secure on while running) I'm glad you're really thinking about this.To many of us women get hurt and the families suffer.Self defence by carrying a gun while you're jogging is allowed.
It's unfortunate that they cost so much money. For the type of material and the amount of material used for this chassis system with no holster included, the price is absurd. Then when you add the essential holster, it gets even more absurd.
Not trying to be contentious, just curious. Isn't this a bit unnecessary? If you're working out, lifting weights, within a gym---is a firearm really needed? I can understand if somebody is running outside, solitary. The last thing I need to worry about is a firearm while I'm exercising. Maybe it's personal preference because I don't like having my gym locker key in my pocket when I'm working out.
It's less about while one is working out, and more about the transition from being inside a gym into a parking lot. Personally I wouldn't feel conformable leaving my gun in a gym locker, so having it on my person is the way to go. Although I can absolutely imagine the potential necessity for a firearm even within a gym setting.
@@RachelDee It's not recommended to use the enigma outside of the 10-2 positions :) It's optimized for appendix carry, so anything outside of that won't conceal the same and can cause stress to the holster.
@@aubrey5569 Oh yes! It certainly solved the issues I was having at the time! Which was mainly the "feel" of the belt, and my lack of desire to wear a tank between it and my skin all of the time haha.
I love your channel! I like to run on trails, which unfortunately prohibit firearms. Any advice on staying safe in that situation other than avoid trail running or knowingly break the law?
I always carry pepper spray in addition to my gun whether I'm exercising or just on the day to day, so I would definitely suggest you carry a good pepper spray (POM is a good option). If you're running in a remote area, and animals are a more major concern, I would consider figuring out a way to carry bear spray also.
I've been looking at the enigma for a while now, was wondering where the diy leg leash is available for purchase. Btw I'd probably wait til the new belt is available before purchasing. As always ty for the video
What’s the diy for the leg leash? Do I have to contact Phlster? Or is there a lonk you can share or a video in which you can demonstrate how to create it?
I've never needed to. Don't get me wrong, the product is a good idea, but the Enigma is just so much more low profile and practical for me than a dedicated pant with a belt and clips.
The Enigma Express is only designed to be used with the holster it comes with. If you want to swap holsters for aftermarket options then you will want to go with an Open Source Enigma 👍🏻
I'd say the longest was about 8 hours. I'll be making the drive from New Mexico to Georgia in December, so I'll be stacking up the driving hours some more then :)
Does the belt strap or screws from the connection chaff your skin? I’ve tried the enigma as my EDC, and I it irritates my skin. Also, do you hand wash the straps? I’m guessing it gets sweaty when you’re working out.
I do hand wash them! :) Before I had the sport belt I didn't love the feeling of the belt and the connection pieces on my skin so I purchased a cover for it, and that solved the issue :)
Oh jeez, it's been years since I've tracked that stuff. I use to be an avid runner, now I'm more of an occasional jogger. My faster 5k was 22min though :) I only did one 10k race and one half marathon, and I'm sure those times were exceptionally slow as well haha.
It's definitely not suffocating haha. I prefer it for everyday wear and exercise over the original nylon belt, but for example, my husband prefers the nylon belt both for exercise and everyday. It's very much a personal preference :)
@@Blakostructr The sport belt has a slight stretch to it, but not very much. The reason you don't want very much stretch is because it will cause the gun to bounce when walking or running. The sport belt has juuuust enough stretch to allow for more comfort and mobility, but is still sturdy enough to prevent any kind of bounce :)
At the time of filming this video, no I did not. I just genuinely found that the Enigma solved problems nothing else I had tried could, as this video demonstrates. Now I actually work for them as their Director of Customer Development, which is publicly disclosed on my channel and mentioned in the individual videos for which it's relevant.
Cool. I get buy with a larger clip for most exercises, and I use a G42 as well. I've been thinking about an an old-school LCP2 ($250 on base, tax free) but I've heard bad things about sweat and rust with those super little guys.
Since I switched to a gutted paracord material I haven't felt much with chaffing or anything. Although if that's an issue with longer distances you can just wear short spandex under running shorts/leggings and wear the enigma over the spandex, but under the shorts/leggings.
There are three different Enigmas, two of them come with just the chassis, and one of them (Enigma Express) comes fully assembled with the holster. PHLster does make a p365 Enigma Express 😊
They actually are designing a new clip for the leash :) I still use the original clip, and have never had any issues with it. Is there a reason you didn't like it? Just to be clear, PHLster strongly recommends against removing the leg leash. It was purposefully added into the design of the enigma, and its not advised to use the enigma without.
@@tessahbooth I am a very large guy. And my legs are very large. When I do squats, run, sprints, bend over a certain way the clip pops open. My wife is a therapist and does taping for a living. We have taped the leash in place... with the flexion of my thigh I pop the clasp. If I leave it loose so it doesnt pop I will have to tape it in place every single day. I am not using sports tape every day in order to leave it loose enough to not pop the clip. The clip is way to weak. It needs a stronger clip.
@@CannonCountry PHLster has an educational resource for this very issue on their website :) The clip breaking away is a safety feature, although it is possible your was defective. Did you try emailing their customer service? www.phlsterholsters.com/whats-up-with-the-enigma-leg-leash/
@@tessahbooth Why would I want the clip to break away from my leg as I squat or run? That defeats the purpose and then becomes a major problem. I want it to work when I run and squat and do any physical movements.
@@CannonCountry It should not break away when doing those activities. The link I left above would likely be very helpful. Theres a video of someone doing movements that you just described with the leash adjusted properly. Like I said, it is possible also that your leash could be defective. I would encourage you to contact their customer service after looking at the educational resource above :)
I can understand carrying while on a run. Carrying while your weight lifting, exercising, or whatever other activity designed for physical fitness makes absolutely no sense at all. Where, when, and why?
An assembled version is available. They can’t have an assembled version for every gun though, so there are open source versions of the enigma available with the option to purchase compatible holsters elsewhere.
I have other videos dedicated to the actual product walk through, and a pretty detailed section of my website describing it further: www.armedandstyled.net/resources/phlster-enigma For this video I felt it was more useful to focus on showing how it worked in this specific context. As of right now I'm not aware of any other videos that show someone actually running with their Enigma.
@@tessahbooth I hear ya, just odd is all. There was nothing included to actually demonstrate the functionality of the enigma is all I mean. Obv the holster holds things, but could you draw effectively still? Did your garment interfere with master grip? Was the holster itself remaining consistent in placement/position. Etc.
Thank you so much for this. I’m a personal trainer, a mom of 3, and super active. I also wear fitted clothes and just have had the hardest time finding something that works. I received my enigma the other day and will be trying it out shortly!
Is the DIY leg leash something you could do a video on? I’ve been doing a lot of research into the enigma and the leg leash and belt comfortability are the two main issues I hear about. But it sounds like you found an easy solution to the leg leash. Maybe a two minute Tuesday video idea? If it’s something you could cover that quickly lol
I really enjoy how in-depth this was. I was hoping to come across a video that addressed being active and having a reliable holster that is concealable, comfortable and effective at retaining the firearm. love the channel!
Quick question about the Engima: what’s the difference between that and just wearing your gun belt under your shorts and over your underwear? That’s been my go-to when I lift for years and the Enigma just seems like a lot of extra steps
The enigma has 12 adjustment holes that allow you to control how much grip tuck or slide tuck you want. The leg leash aids in keeping the holster from coming up as you draw, and has been tested and passed at ECQC classes. If the belt set up is working well for you while you lift, and the enigma isn't interesting to you, then I'd say stick with what you have!
I went to a water bottle holding and kydex setup belt pack/fanny pack. Which works well enough, and a belt pack with a water bottle attached to it isn't out of place when running. Had to do a good amount of draw practice with it though.
Last I checked the enigma was only being made for 2 gun models? They haven’t made one for my conceal carry yet. Are there other options you have found that work well?
The enigma is not a holster, it's a chassis system. If you can find a compatible holster, then it can work with just about any concealed carry gun. It's compatible with many different guns. It is also designed for concealed carry, so I'm not sure what system you're thinking of, but it's not the enigma :) You may be thinking of the Skeleton? Which is a holster, and they are currently only making it for the 43/43X and the P365, but more models are currently in the making.
I’m 6’1, 210 pounds and found that gun to print a lot in general. It’s a very long gun. Turned it into a nightstand gun and bought a Shield and Glock 19 as an edc
I have a Olight attached to my 9mm. Would this be a problem for this holster? Do they have an Enigma holster that will fit my gun with the Olight? The holster that I have now is perfect, and it even has a pouch to carry a magazine. The problem is that I don't like the material. It allows too much perspiration inside the holster. Plus, even though I haven't tried using it while I run (since I run inside on my treadmill), but I am pretty sure that if I did, that thing would be flopping around while getting sweat on my gun. So, I am looking for the best of both worlds. I want something like what you have but will hold it will my Olight AND carry an extra magazine. Of course, the extra magazine pouch on the holster is not a must. I use an old tactical, police light carrying case to carry another magazine. It's A LOT more comfortable than the regular magazine holders that they sell. They have those things are way up too high when you put them on your belt, and the magazine digs into 'my' side, because it's too high. This police light carrying case fixes this for me, because the top of the magazine drop to belt level. Anyway,.... That was my adventure...What do you think about the VNSH holster, 'today'? I have heard that they fixed many of the issues that people were complaining about. At least, that's what THEY are saying.
I haven't had any major issues with that, however, this is probably the best video on the internet for solving chaffing issues while carrying: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4_OXyli4ecU.html
The enigma is very much a gender neutral carry system. My husband also uses an enigma. He's currently carrying a comped Glock 19, with a Holoson 509t, in a PHLster Pro Series holster mounted to the standard enigma.
My initial review of the enigma disclosed more on that. I asked to purchase one before launch, and they ended up sending it to me free of charge. I wouldn’t really say that introduces bias seeing as how I sought the product out on my own and was fully prepared to pay MSRP. That said, since my initial review and since I created this video, I have started working for PHLster, so I no longer create “review” videos with any of their products seeing as how I do have a clear bias now that didn’t exist before 👍🏻
Hi. Thanks for the content. Before I start, please understand that there is no judgement from my side whatsoever. I am assuming you live in America somewhere and if I compare your generalized live conditions and quality of life in your country VS my side of the world which is South Africa we are statistically and in real life situations a crime hotspot, something the World doesn't get told or mentioned in the media because of the whole history of the Country and and and. But even with that I and my family don't need or feel the need to own or carry guns, we live a fairly comfortable life eventho our next generation is pretty much going to need to look for greener pastures somewhere else. I'm all for guns and fully understand guns don't kill, people kill people. So in this long winded comment / question. Why do you feel the need to carry a gun in such a "safe" country? Again this is just a honest question that I don't intend to have any negative meaning in it.
Hey! Thanks for your comment. I actually just addressed this question in todays upload. You can skip to the last time card in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AqVt_1aJ6lw.html It’s not about whether I live in a safe area or not, it’s more about the fact that there are bad actors everywhere, and people are victimized everyday. If, in the off chance I am selected for attack, I want to be as prepared as I can be in order to prevent someone from taking my life from me.
@@tessahbooth thanks for the reply. I just watched your video 5min after I posted. As I mentioned, no judgement at all from my side, just wanted your take on why you carry. Sad fact is that in my country, if I shoot a criminal that is in my house attacking me or my family I will be in more trouble then the perpetrators. I will be arrested and will need to without a shadow of adoubt state my case that our lives where is really and imminent threat.
@@angelln25 I don't know where you are, or what the laws are in your country, but it is not uncommon for self defenders to be arrested in the US after a self defense encounter and will also have to prove that they had reason to believe that they were in imminent danger of death or great bodily harm.
The sport belt looks alot like the pad that a lot of cops put on their duty belt (molle web gear) nowadays. I would imagine of that design is able to support the 20-30lbs duty belt it will more than suffice for a workout ccw!
Well, you certainly look fit & trim, so well done there. As for the products, nicely done representing who you are going to be working for and incorporating the knowledge you have with the former holsters and items you’ve used in the past. Excellent video and concise. You found a great niche. Hope your husband is safe on deployment.
