Bless your heart Mel! The whole time you were making your chicken salad and kept saying "it still needs something" I was like "yes it does! It needs mayo!" 😂😂😂 I admire that you're trying to go healthier, though 💜💜💜 I wish I could do the same...I definitely need to! I just have no willpower 🤷♀️ Love you!! PS maybe some chopped dill pickles would have helped?
Yes, I wanted mayo SO BAD LOL I should have just put in a little, it would have helped. And dill pickles would have helped too, thanks for that tip. I'm just trying to make some small sustainable changes that hopefully will add up
I can't have mayo so I use greek yogurt in my chicken salad all the time. Lemon pepper will brighten the flavor so much. I put it in the salad and again on the sandwich. So good. Love your cooking show. God bless you for what you do.
Yay for an Aldi haul! You know I love your hauls as we eat so many similar things! Yours are my favorite!! I hope you are doing well, sweet friend. Chicken Salad and Dukes Mayo are just an inseparable pair! 😉 Have a beautiful week!
I throw a little bit of sour cream in with the Greek yogurt and add garlic and onion powder along with pepper and chives as well as onion. Takes it up a bit. Love watching you.
I enjoy the grocery hauls. I shop at Aldi, Kroger and Walmart. Your grocery hauls help me to know about new products and what is good that I haven't tried.
When I make chicken (or tuna) salad with greek yogurt I always add a little bit of Dukes Mayo for that eggy rich binding/mouth feel! And I add celery because, and raw onion. Lemon juice is a must, for me...and yes, let it sit for awhile for the flavors to get together. I love you videos!
You are so sweet and so funny, momma Mel ❤️❤️❤️ My sweet mama loves the end of the bread loaves, too. She was visiting last year for Thanksgiving, I made her homemade bread and she especially enjoyed the ends of it 😄 she jumped at me when I was on my way to throw them out lol. And when I find a Greek yogurt that tastes like Duke's mayonnaise, I will let you know 😂 you are so funny! I love the southern women charm 🤗❤️ Love the haul, the sandwich, and wonderful humor 🌻 Have a blessed week in Jesus name 🙌🏼
I absolutely love your channel. I love how real you keep it and you always put a smile in my heart and you always make me laugh! Girl, I'm trying to watch what I eat and if we could just make everything that is good for us taste good, we would be set! I feel the same way you do!!! Thank you for sharing your grocery haul and for you being you! Love and blessings to you always!!!
I did catering for many years. My chicken salad I always made weekly. I served it in one of my packages and I also sold it weekly by the pound. I made at least 25 lbs per week just to sell by the lb, plus whatever I needed for catering events. My chicken salad I always made using bone in Skin on Chicken breast which I seasoned with olive oil, salt and black pepper. For add ins I used Celery, including the leafy tops which have great flavor, chopped pecans, dried cranberries, Greek yogurt and mayonnaise. I did 1/2 mayonnaise and half Greek yogurt. I then seasoned the chicken salad with seasoned salt and black pepper. It was one of my best sellers.
The first time I ever had chicken salad, it was half vanilla yogurt mixed with half mayo .. Very good. Add some chopped celery and chopped walnuts. Sometimes I add chopped fresh mango with it all...
Sue here: yes - mayo in chicken salad but also the crunchies - celery, onion, grapes, pecans, and the secret !!! drum roll ... is a big spoonful of apricot or peach jam 😋🧡.
Hello just found you today and saved every one of your episodes. God bless you I love how real you are. For the canned chicken salad you could use lemon pepper and add just ¼-½ tsp of either brown sugar or regular sugar if you want more tropical sweet flavor for your chi Ken salad. Of course you can use a natural Stevie or swerve substitute too. I look forward to making your taco hashbrown crockpot meal tonight!
I’m so happy you share your church with us. Your church reminds me of the Baptist church where I was raised. I know you understand being raised in church. I’m so thankful that God Loves me and that He taught me that fact, when my momma took me to church on Sunday morning, Sunday night and Wednesday night… and everything else that happens during the week. You are a blessing to me and now I see another reason why. You really do speak my language. Sending Love and prayers from Texas ♥️🙏🤠
I always use Duke's for my chicken salad as well. So I think I would have to sneak at least a spoonful in there along with the yogurt. And celery adds a lot to it too. I don't always have celery on hand, but try to keep celery seed in my spice drawer...it gives that same flavor profile.
Girl you don’t have to give up Dukes! When I need to cut calories I just eat half a chicken salad sandwich on wheat or scoop it in some lettuce but mostly I just eat out of the bowl..most definitely saving on carbs with the last option. 😂
@InTheKitchenWithMommaMel I'd recommend doing half mayo half yogurt! A little healthier is better than not even trying! You could eventually get to all yogurt!
I loved this video 😍. Yes we need Reed back 🤠. This a beautiful haul. Loved your recipe. Tip for you 😉😉😉😉 Celery takes the salt out of recipes. Continue to buy and use.
WooHoo, a grocery haul!🎉 I’m with you on the mayo! I’ve done it with yogurt before & it’s flavorless. No zing. None of that tang you can only get with mayo!
Hello,I haven't shopped at Aldi in a while, but I will be soon hopefully.really great savings.thank you so much for sharing 😋.hv a great day family 💕🥰😘❤️💕😘
Great video, I would love for you to keep doing grocery hauls. The tip for my chicken salad is to use part mayo/part yogurt. I also use celery salt in place of regular salt, and either sweet or dill pickle relish. It just adds so much flavor. I love fruit in mine like you do too. Hope that helps! Now I am going to have to make chicken salad this week LOL!
Even though I try to eat more healthy, there are certain things that I will not sacrifice. Mayonnaise for chicken salad is one of 'em. And, I love Aldi, too!
Love loved this 😊 people have to get really creative in what they prepare for different life styles and shopping the deals is a must. Have a Great Week and God Bless
Positive Sunday blessings to you! Look to gratitude and an optimistic attitude on this wonderful day for positive vibes and to build a lovely Sunday. Have a Beautiful and Blessed day and week. See you next video. Stay safe and healthy. God Bless.
I do use Greek yogurt…sometimes…🤭 If I do I put in the yogurt, grapes, green onion, and sometimes chopped walnuts. I season my yogurt with celery seed, salt, pepper, and yellow mustard…I imagine the lemon juice would do the same thing. Yours looked so pretty! Definitely going to try it!
Thanks Pam, I like nuts in mine too but my daughter was eating this with me and she is allergic so... I think green onion would have been better than red and for sure celery seed. Have a great week!
Nothing is better than Mayo in chicken salad!! I have tried the Greek yogurt too but I still like the Mayo!! Especially Dukes!! So good!! Can’t compare to Greek yogurt
Great haul. You rock. The apple wood smoked Gouda is fantastic. I use it a quesadilla with some McCormick roasted garlic chipotle. The truffles are so good. Many blessings from Alabama.
Hello Mel, you need the celery, I use sugar but not too much. I think the can chicken may contain a lot of sodium. It also, may be the brand of yogurt in the salad. I use a store brand before, and it spoil the whole dessert. Lesson learned for me.
I tried the dark cherry Greek yogurt the other night for the first time from ALDI. It was amazing. I also bought a bag of their Belgium dark chocolate chunks and put a couple in the yogurt. YUMMY! It was a wonderful little sweet treat.
Another one you can try is chix, celery, apple, candied pecans, and curry powder. I know it sounds wild but. A place I worked at had it and it was awesome. Green apples*
Hi Mel I would add a couple drops of vinegar in it because I think that’s the missing taste. If you do try it that way please let me know if that is what was missing. Hugs 🤗
Always enjoy your channel! You are such a blessing! My friend will add ranch dressing instead of mayo and she adds grapes and toasted pecans. MMMM GREAT! Blessings to you/yours!🙏
Great haul, yes I love the heel of the bread. I'd rather have a low fat mayo lol I needed to do an Aldi haul but Arthritis is flared so waiting. God Bless and Thank you for sharing looking forward to the next video 🙂🫶🙏🏼
Hi Mel, I live in ca and we do not have an aldis or krogers.I buy my groceries at Walmart. We also have Winco. If I bought everything you purchased it would be easily between 300.00. We don't have any of the brands you showed too. You just have to make do.
There is a you tuber but I have been watching lately it is called cooking with Pam She said if you take your lettuce out of the plastic when you get home and wrap it in aluminum foil it can last up to 45 days so many people have been writing that they tried it and it is wonderful With the prices of things now you have to try every hack
Honey, you did everything I can think of to fix up that chicken salad. I may have used a scallion instead of the red onion, and a little fine-diced celery. I don't know, there just isn't a replacement for Duke's mayo!
I have heard of using Greek yogurt in place of sour cream. Not for mayo though. I actually prefer Miracle Whip for my chicken salad and deviled eggs. Oh well, I guess it was worth a try!
I'm not a big celery fan either. I don't know where I found out about this but I wrap my celery in aluminum foil now and it lasts forever, seemingly.... I've been trying to add it to more of my soups for fiber.
Love your channel. I just saw a recipe today for Chicken Salad with 1/4 cup finely chopped pitted dates. It was in Tea Time magazine so you know it was a sweet looking little sandwich! 🥰
Hi Mel! I've used the same yogurt in canned tuna. I put some onion, celery, pepper, onion powder and some lemon juice in mine. It was good. I do love a yogurt bowl though. I put some granola in my bowl, then yogurt, berries, cinnamon, chocolate chips and honey. It's so good 👍 I love my Aldi. Nice haul.
I make mine with dried cranberries, onions, celery and pecans and greek yogurt. It gets better after it has been refrigerated. But like you l like mine better made with mayo or even miracle whip. But l am trying real hard to eat lighter
Hi Mel. Catching up on videos. Been inthe hospital, then in rehab and now back in the hospital. Hoping to be back on my feet soon. Just a secret tip. Instead of the Greek yogurt, sub some equal parts mayo and cool whip. It sounds strange, but trust me on this. And instead of peaches, add drained pineapple tidbits. I also add chopped walnuts or pecans. It is fabulous this way. I promise you will love it. And you are right. It is better the longer it sits. Will get caught up on videos as I am up to it.
@@InTheKitchenWithMommaMel thanks so much for the prayers. I appreciate it so much. Have pretty much been paralyzed with seizures the last 2 weeks. Hoping to be able to walk for the first time tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed that it goes well and I can go home this week. Prayers means everything. Thank you 😊
I'm sorry but I was giggling along with you when you made the chicken salad. I don't know if I could get to the point of using the Greek yogurt. Thank you for the great video. I DO like seeing your grocery haul...Mrs Steve
I really enjoy your grocery hauls, especially Kroger and Aldi. We don't have Kroger stores in Pennsylvania , and I'm jealous of the great deals you get on your Lays snacks. Lol. I enjoy seeing what you think is good at Aldi. That pineapple salsa looks good to me. I've never made chicken salad with Greek yogurt, but I was excited to see how you like it. I will be interested to see how you think it compares to sour cream also. Thank you for your great videos. I get lots of inspiration from them.
Hi, my name is Alicia, and I live in NC, We have 12 grandchildren and one beautiful great-granddaughter. I have watched all your videos for the past 2 yrs. I have a recipe for you to try, it's called Wing-A-Ding Dings. The recipe I got it from is called "More To Bragg About". It was published in 1986 and is a conglomerate from the Officers' wives at Ft.Bragg NC. This was one of my son's favorites growing up. (He was 27 when he left us, he's been gone for 15 yrs.)and it's hard to make them. But they are delicious. 16 chicken wings or 3 Lbs on drumettes 1 cup honey 1/2 cup ketchup 1/2 cup soy sauce 2 tsp. vegetable oil 1/4 tsp. garlic powder pepper, to taste *** my son used 1 Tbls of liquid smoke in place of the vegetable oil and garlic powder Place all ingredients into a large ziplock bag and let it marinate for 30 mins./overnight in the refrigerator. Place pieces onto a baking dish. Bake at 350 for approximately 1 1/2 hrs. These are so good. Hope you try these and enjoy them. Great for picnic and gatherings.
Mel you were cracking me up with your chicken salad lol. I keep saying Mel it's mayo that's missing 😂 I always use can chicken for my chicken salad. I also use Hellman's light mayo it's delicious. I know you love dukes tho. Does duke come in a light mayo? ❤️
I’m trying to lose some weight too. I’ve lost 50 pounds but have gained 8 back 🙁but I would have had to put some mayo in the chicken salad. 😂 I’ve never made it with yogurt but I like the protein yogurt. I love those multigrain chips from Aldi. We like a lot of their items. I usually just go to grocery store once a month. Just pick up a few items during the month. Thanks!
I use yogurt for everything where you use sour cream, as I can't eat sour cream. I do make a cooked mayonnaise from my mom's old recipe, so do about 1/2 and 1/2 of that with the yogurt for things like that.
I substitute sour cream with Greek yogurt for a long time. It taste fine to me. I still use a lighter mayo for other stuff. I buy Costco’s Organic Greek Yogurt. Has better ingredients in it. I’m learning if I’m gona eat health the ingredient has to be a clean item. Meaning the ingredients in the item is good and real. The free Bobby approved app helps me a lot, although it will make you change your recipes. Eating health is tuff.
Mel, I use fat free sour cream and just 1 TBSP of duke's light mayon. I put celery, apple, grapes and roasted cashews in mine. I have made it with all Greek yogurt it is too tangy for my liking but, if you try half light mayo and half greek yogurt it is okay. Letting it sit a couple of hours in the refrigerator helps as well. I love bread but, don't eat it much anymore, too many carbs for me. Thank you so much for sharing! God bless all!
I am for sure going to start getting the light Duke's when I get thru my stockpile of full fat LOL And thanks so much for this tip! I really appreciate it!
@In The Kitchen With Momma Mel If you are only using 1 TBSP of even full fat Duke's and the addition of fat free sour cream or Greek yogurt maybe it would reduce the calories and fat enough for you to be able to use it? God bless you and everyone!
