Ben seems to be in a happier mood for this vid. I think it's a combination of a) having that mega-power 3S paddle and b) him and CJ finally winning a gold after a long drought
Funny how he was so uncomfortable in the intro, but as soon as he started talking about the technical stuff involving the paddle he relaxes and you can tell he's totally into it. Say what you want about Ben, but at the end of the day he just seems like a wholesome dude who actually loves Pickleball.
No, I don’t use the same paddle and setup in singles. I will make another video soon about my singles paddle setup as that has changed recently as well. The 3S breaks in gradually, but not severely.
Hey Ben! Can you do another video on how you set up your gen 2 Perseus for singles? It looks like you have changed your lead setup on it from what you used previously.
Thank you Ben for the detailed video. I have a lead tape on each at the bottom and at the side, sometimes I feel my hands are aching. Is it because of too much weight. ?
Just did the math and it has to be 0.25 gr per inch lead, he uses 24 inchs of tape, that makes about 0.2 OZ, + overgrip and electrical tape goes to 8.5~
Its half a gram per inch. Starts at 8oz and ends up at 8.5oz. 4 strips of 5.5 inches on throat (11 grams) , 2 strips cut in half at 2 inches (2 grams). 13 grams in lead and the other gram is from overgrip/eletrical tape. Before figuring out the math, I assumed he was using 1 gram per inch, but that would be pretty heavy to add 4 strips that long at the bottom.
@@funnyfarmdad9997 Lead tape is to change the balance, shift sweet spot, provide more support on certain shots, and power on some shots. With these placements it’s mainly stability increase. Overgrips are because stock grips get more sweaty and slippery.
You should check out tungsten tape. You don't need any electrical tape on top, its a lot easier to use, looks better, and reduces variability in weighting.
It's also 2 times as expensive, the one he linked in the description is 36 yard lead tape reel. You get 1296 inches of lead tape for 55 bucks. To get about the same amount of Tungsten Tape as the reel he listed, you'd need to spend $550 bucks before tax which is 10x as expensive. Regardless if he's a millionaire or not. It adds up, he uses a lot of lead tape.
I got this paddle a week ago, set up almost the same as this. My paddle face right of the box has some streaks on it, can only really see in the sun but is this typical for this paddle? Kinda looks like yours has a bit but hard to tell from the video.
I want to know if you wear cushioned inserts in your Babolat Mach 3s? I wear the same model and feel the hammering of my feet after several hours of grueling matches. If so, what inserts do you wear? Thank you!!
I believe it’s about .5g/in or a little less. Since I use 24” total, overgrip, and electric tape, it adds .5oz or about 14g, and the overgrip weighs 3-4g, remainder is the 24” adds around 10-11g.
has anyone found a amazon link to his actual led tape or what we can use to match the numbers? dont wanna use the link he provided takes way to long to ship

@@gianalvarez8724 Very interesting, I didn't even know they make .25g lead, if thats the case the fact that he can feel a difference .25g on the corners shows how dialed in he is with his paddle
Just don’t expect your paddle to play like the one he has. Joola has the special suit case that is definitely not something you are capable of purchasing. Not that the paddle isn’t good but it definitely will never be the same as what they put in the pros hands.
When it’s lighter you can be more exact with different configurations. Like with my last setup before this one I only used one strip, not two. I could’ve used 1g in this video, but that high of density doesn’t allow me to experiment as precisely with different placements.
@@BenJohns_pb I'm willing to bet you're already better than 90% of people. The wall bit you might struggle with because it confused the heck out of me.
Hi Ben, can you request Joola to have the option for smaller grips for smaller hands? My daughter played with the AL-W paddle and now she likes your paddle. She says your Perseus has more pop and is effortless for her liking. Thanks in advance. This is how my daughter plays and she very much idolizes you, and recently applied for the sponsorship. Hopefully Joola responds to her soon. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SIk8NSiK5JQ.htmlsi=Sx6XX3btnYW-6ZQg
I’m telling you, in a year, lead tape on the paddle will be illegal. Stock, none modified paddles. Start practicing with them. Cause only “certain paddles will be allowed in league play.”
@@goheels4life635 50% chance it comes delaminated from the factory, that is why so many joola pros have to come to the tourneys with like 10 paddles to get approved for play, half of them fail
