Thanks, Matty! Very useful for a beginner at this stuff, especially the part about spooling the line properly. Looking forward to trying this setup a long way from your Aussie homeland. Seward, Alaska. Cheers!
It often sucks when the weather turns crap in CQ, Bowen to Burnett Heads. For me it’s because the RU-vid videos from my old stomping ground slow down. It’s amazing how much you can depend on them for your enthusiasm (and to hopefully stay partially sane). Thanks for a good informative video Matt. Picked up some good tips for our next holiday north.
Stoked your making these tutorial style videos. You seem to have a stacks of really good info. A lot of stuff gets overlooked by ‘pros’ and the basic is just what the masses love. thanks for sharing ledge
Great explanation of setting up an overhead outfit. I’ll be doing that myself again soon. If you haven’t seen them yet, the Bees Knees reel spooler from Busted Fishing is probably the best unit for spooling your reels at home. I bought mine a few years ago after deliberating about it for a while, and after using it the first time, I was kicking myself for not having bought one earlier. It’s a really well engineered and made piece of kit.
Thanks Matty, this is very useful for beginners in this, especially the part about scrolling lines properly. Hope to try this setup, your tutorial is so fun I don't even feel like watching your video for 23 minutes, good luck my friend, slam sejahtra from Indonesia,
Matt are you serious... a fishless video 😀, that's the only video where you don't catch a fish but still cool, learning something new every day is just priceless, i am still practicing your fg technic... long way to go
Thank you so much on this video. Since I've just brought the bee knees spooler and noticed the colour powder coming off the braid, you explained it well and why to include a wet rag. Also thanks for the heads up on the jigs. Soon I will be going out (howick island) to test these out. Love your videos and the star of the show the little fella.
They preform even better! Ive used my lexa 400 TW for 11 months and caught about 700lbs of fish, with constant salt exposure. Its held up flawlessly and had 0 parts replaced at service! Its outlasted my tranxes by far
How ya going mate love the vids and what you do. Matty I goto say thank you. I got like 8 twitch it's 4.5 inch just got back from fishing trip up the WA coast 6 days. Matty I am stoked with the product you have produced it's fire mate works amazing
My experience rebels against not tying the braid onto my reel. The wingspan method of working out how long to make the leader is the same as I do. You are a gun at tying the FG knot
very cool to mention bout taking the jig off wen travelling Matty. i c it at the boat ramp all the time n u can hear the jig slapping around wen they r under way.
We've caught 150lb tarpon on that knot. That's my #1 knot I've been using for 25yrs now. I just figured that one out back then. I consider it the Haas Knot! ;)
Very informative. Thanks for taking the time to explain your setup. You are using mono as a leader, have you ever used a piece of wire as trace/leader?
Dam it thanks for that info had issues with both of mine love the reels but it does bite the line tackle shop said it was something I was doing Diawa told me to take it back and have them spool it again thanks for info again
Ohhh Mr. Matt, Unfortunately, it's very difficult to buy Lexa here... Lexa is not sold in Indonesia even though it's very interesting... thx u for this video Mr. Matt🙏
Bloody awesome content bro, I’m just about to add a jig outfit to my arsenal so this was perfect timing. When u get out next can u go thru some techniques on jigging. Some videos u don’t even get to jig an your on haha but Surely there’s a few ways to jig an I reckon a lot would get something outta it, cheers bro
Awesome run through on the jig gear!! Spot on about the spooling machines, ive seen and had some bad jobs done, people even looking the other way talking while they are doing it 🤦♂, your a bad influence though, ive already got some nomad/daiwa combos because of you, both definitely great bits of gear. fingers crossed this wind and rain goes away soon.
@@PelagicPursuit89 I got out the front of Mackay a few weeks ago and got a couple long tail but that’s been it for ages, fingers crossed we don’t have another trade wind blow like last year 🤞
Love ya work looking for a recommendation and a good start out rod real that can do a bit of everything from jigging to casting stick baits on the flats what would you buy
I use lexa for jigging too, but I don’t like the new one with t wing system because sometimes the line can wrap on the t wing as it flip when you open the bail. This could be a nightmare when your jig just hit the bottom and you find out your line wrap on the t wing and you snag the bottom while the boat is drifting away.
greetings from your subscriber from Indonesia... really like all of your content.. looks like the old reel can be givenaway to Indonesia... greetings curved fishing rod #Indonesia
Nice light set up, i wouldnt want to hook anything big on it but if you have a rough idea what size fish you will encounter it looks great. It is WAY too light for most of my fishing here in Norway but it does look good for our coalfish wich basicly is a cold water kingie and for atlantic cod wich is my fav eating fish so i'll check the rod and reel out.
Perfect vid. I hope you won't mind if I buy that exact setup. I've seen you muscle some superb fish with a similar setup. Could you do a recommended casting rod that would be light tackle for barramundi, Queenie, tusk fish rod maybe maxing out at big shallow water Chinamen. That would be a sweet set up as well.
Can you do a video even just a short one and show us all your rods and reels and what you use them for or don’t use them. Would love to see where you draw the line between requirements and wants/ didn’t need.
(Rad dad) hHaha awsome bro love how your black a d white mate ya absolutely spot on with everything your saying Iv said it before and ill say it again I learn so much every time I watch your videos mate thanks so much
We need to remember how lucky we are now with fishing reels. There’s a reasonable price point that gets you a reel that’s fairly close to the top end stuff for a fraction of the price. The gap between a Stella and the mid price reels is only the price now.
Het Matt, great set-up. Good info. When are you comming over to the west? me casa su casa. Both my wife and me require your expert skill on how to land some quality fish.
Hey Matt, greetings from across the ditch. I see in the video you’re holding a 7.1:1 but on videos from a year ago you’re 0:02 using the 6.3:1. I fish mostly 50m/120-150 g jigs. Any comments on the differences please? Cheers Richy
Hey mate love ya vids been watching for a while, setting myself up to get into jigging, just wondering does your line touch the blank when loaded up, just bought an over head slow pitch jigging rod and found it touches in a few spots under load
Still blown away your using a bait caster for saltwater jigging. Sitting here trying to choose a reel for my PE 3-6 overhead. The spooling lesson is brilliant
just bought a similar set up - perfect video for me ......... I'm obviously behind the times .... no mono backing? - just what Iv'e always done - definitely easier!! cheers
Yeah it was to stop the slippage on the spool and meant you didn’t have to buy as much braid back then because it was so expensive but now just run braid
im confused about getting the OJ 1500 or the OJ 2000. i fish the tropics in Bali and never go under 150 meters of water but the jigs get quite heavy (500-700g). can the smaller 1500 handle this type of jigs? any advice is welcome thank you!!
