How I Setup a Victron Cerbo GX to Auto Start Stop My Onan Generator

Have you ever wondered how to enable the generator auto start stop functionality within the Victron Cerbo GX? Watch this video to find out how simple it really is!
Equipment Needed to setup Generator Auto Start/ Stop:
Victron Cerbo GX with SmartShunt or Victron BMV-712 Battery Monitor
Onan Generator
Faithful Journey RV Services Gen Start Stop Box
The Faithful Journey RV Services Gen Start Stop Box works with 12v, 24v or 48v systems. The best part is you don't need to have a full on solar system to leverage this box. As long as you have a Cerbo GX with SmartShunt or BMV-712 Battery Monitor you can use this to start the generator when the state of charge of the monitored batteries is low.
To install the Faithful Journey RV Services Gen Start Stop Box all you need to do is connect seven wires to your RV. Watch the video find to find out more.

I ordered this device around six months ago. Basically I was too lazy to research and assemble it myself. I found this installs easily, there is a handy instruction sheet included. Customer support was wonderful and I plan on completing a short video. I have a 28' Toy Hauler with the Onan Microquiet 4KW generator. The system in Victron MPII 3kw Inverter. Absolutely nothing negative to say about this device.

Hi Everyone - Totally unsolicited review - This is a great product. And like others, yes, I probably could have figured out how to make one myself but there is that whole time / money / effort thing. Totally a great value and worth every penny. Very simple and easy to understand install and config. The only feature I'd like to see on it is a manual generator start / stop switch, but I can add one of those myself - pretty simple. Thanks again for a great product!

Interesting. Wiring to the generator would be interesting to see. Are you wiring to the energy command 30 or directly to the gen. Also the priming timing. Can’t this timing change since the glow plugs need a little more time to warm up during colder weather?

Check out this video on how I connected to the generator's wire harness. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ryldhnDtcSQ.html You can adjust the timing of the relays as needed for your generator or weather. For example a diesel gen might need a longer prime cycle than a gas. Or if you go to a colder climate your prime and or start cycle might need to be slightly longer. Under the Remote Console settings on the Cerbo GX there is a "Enable on VRM" option

Yes, thanks. That button is on, and still I do not see the "remote console" menu item in the left hand VRM screen on my PC or smartphone. Any other suggestions. I am still puzzled.

I assume this will function with an Onan 5500 LP that doesnt have prime/preheat like gasoline and diesel units do?

That is correct. It has been installed with Onan propane generators.

If you have a Victron system and a compatible generator there is no reason why you couldn't. I'm designing an off-grid home that will use it.

I have seen stop and start wires that connect to the back of the panel (prime/stop/start switch) in the RV/Motorhome. Can I connect at the generator in the same place that the switch connects to?

sory mate i do not like to ant f*ck a generator is producing like electricity or a signal why is it a inverter because it is not generating any thing it only change the input a battery is also not a generator but storage. what is the reason to talk if it is wrong.
