Simple and to the point why can’t everybody else do that they have to make it sound so dramatic as if it’s a movie thank you for taking your time to put this together
That is so true the hardest part is starting I have been watching an learning . Thank you for this information I want to do this rite when I start. I'm watching this video over I want to duplicate your set up I notice how you take care of your equipment I'm the same way. Again Thank You From Florida.
I started my hotshot company in June of 2022 and barely started actually driving last week. My insurance was like 9K for the year thru Progressive, bought my dually for 6k, bought 3 trailers, 53' car hauler, 40' flatbed and currently driving around a 32'. I just bought a 20' over the weekend so I can concentrate more in the Chicago area. Im doing only local since i have 3 small kids. Driving the big trailers in Chicago sucks
Very exciting, I’ve never been to Chicago but if it’s anything like California Bay Area it’s difficult. 29 years with my CDL all local. Your kids will be happy to have you home.
I live in Sacramento and I've had my class b license for 21 years. I'm thinking about getting my class a endorsement soon then moving out of state to start my business. I think everything including the insurance will be much cheaper if I registered my business in another state. Your videos have been very informative thank you.
Thank you for watching Eddie Shields! With a Class A license you’ll be able to carry more weight (larger trailer). Let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you brotha. I wanna start doing this soon. I have my class A permit and I run my own junk removal company sole proprietorship. I'll be looking for more of your videos
Hello mr. rio , from estambul Turkey... Thank you so much man... for your informations. I wanna start the business. We are gonna move to florida as family, next year. I love your videos. bye bye...🙂
Hola amigo Ríos te veo como el mejor ejemplo de transporte de autos me gustaría empezar en ese negocio ya tengo información y por favor haz mas videos en español gracias y mucha suerte en tu negocio a ti y a tu señora
I've been watching you guy's for almost a year ( from Louisiana). Very informative.. bought a ez4 for 9k and a single axle day cad for 15k. As you stated it took me ab 8 months to get everything in order order, i used the money i saved for a new pickup to start , i was legal to start running last month,, just made my 1st insurance payment. Currently I'm still working my job, i had lots of time to burn after 16yrs of hauling lp gas , im leaving may 31st.. you guys channel have been very informative.... THANKS
I’m wanting to start car hauling i do super market refrigeration it’s good n all but the on-call schedule is horrendous, I know driving there’s a lot of road time but I’d rather put all my time and energy into working for myself rather than slaving away at a company who pays peanuts
I love the quote in the beginning. I have been back and forth on this for a couple years and have been watching your videos for a while. Something always persuades me not to do it. I think i just need to go for it. Ive had my CDL for years and havent driven in Dry Van in a while. I have a lot i can sell for 40k, do you think that would be enough to get started. Thinking of getting the EZ4 cash and financing a truck. My insurance quote was $2200 a month through progressive.
Get a insurance quote for a used truck versus new truck. Try to get a newer used trailer with upgraded mesh. Mine is 2017 it needed brakes when I bought it but it was cheap. I recommend you keep around $5,000 in the bank as reserves for fuel and misc, some brokers take up to 30 days to pay. Yes $40,000 is enough to start if you’re financing the truck.
Man I love this. Yall have been so insightful on getting started. One question I have is how do you get your cars to haul? Is it through brokers and dispatch as well?
I want to start a car hauling business next year. I already am I the car scene hosting car meets and doing car detailing. I want to network with people through car hauling and make a name for myself. Thanks for the information 💯‼️
Thank you! It does slow down this time of year but usually picks up in a few weeks. Two days this week I transported for direct clients, having direct clients is the goal to keep you busy.
I know that you used to have the Reese 5th wheel and now you have the holland. Do you think the Reese was heavy duty enough to go 300,000 miles hauling cars? Do you feel like the Reese is safe when towing the easy four with four cars on the trailer? I'm considering going with a Holland also someday because it seems like it's much more heavy duty and would be one less thing to worry about
Love you guys 😃 Can you do another video with more details on the step to getting you dot, mc, authority and anything else needed to start car hauling. I from Sacramento and saving up for my truck and trailer now😁. Also how do you find loads? Thank you guys for all the videos, I’m learning a lot 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I like your guys videos and have been trying to figure out how to break into hauling but I can't figure out how to see what the markets doing in my area because even though I have the truck I don't want to blow money on the MC and more importantly the INSURANCE just to find out the market in my area is not sustainable atm. I just wan to see whats happening on the load boards to make sure it makes sense but cant
Awesome video, very informative, I am currently saving up to get my CDL A Schooling and licensing done I am looking for a change in career and looking to start a business in hotshots, how is it going for you it really is an interesting business I have a couple uncles that do car hauling for company’s but I want to try to work to build a family company in the future 🙏🏼
Thank you! That’s very exciting, it’s good to have your CDL. I really enjoy it, it does get slow at times but usually doesn’t last too long. Let me know if you have any questions.
@@riosautotransportllc awesome I will definetly have some questions soon I’m getting ready to leave my pipe fitting Career and jump into this full time something different, I’m located in Seattle WA but originally from California do u think it’s better to get the license here or California for cdl? Or does it matter?
Much respect OG, I’m a 25 year old dad in California on his path to getting his class A. I’ve been real interested in this hotshot business compared to being a company driver for someone else. What would you suggest? Would you recommend it or recommend getting more experience first as a company driver?
Whats up brother good morning! I want to get started soon eventually don't have ebough for a 3500 but I have my personal 1500 I know I can safely haul 1 car... Do you think I can hual 2 cars with a 30ft bumper pull trailer on that local runs only? If not would 1 car be profitable?
I’m not sure about 2 cars with your 1500. Check what your GVWR is on your 1500 door. To be on the safe side you may a 2500. Non running cars do pay more, if you don’t mind transporting non running cars and using a winch.
My first year insurance Broker no longer insures new DOT numbers. Google commercial insurance broker (in your area) there should be several. I recommend getting more than one quote, after a year you can go through Progressive directly.
A lot of people aren’t real enough to show the finance side. Thankyou sir , I’m 23 looking to get into this. 1 question. Do regular personal basic C class speeding tickets (no dui) effect insurance rate for hot shot? I’ve had some fast cars and was young and stupid.
So I'm looking into getting into this...only problem I have is I see there is a 65 foot length law...I have a 24', long wheel base crew cab f550... I'd like to haul 3 cars and those trailers are about 48'... I'm assuming with my long wheel base and crew cab I'll be over the 65' limit... I see you have. Acrew cab but short wheel base ? What's your overall lenght with trailer?
My truck and trailer are 64.5 feet. Check with your local CHP, someone told me if you have a large semi fifth wheel 65 feet rule doesn’t apply. Again check with your local CHP.
Hey guys, thank you for information. I got my DOT in 2019 for a towing business. This year I started 5 car transport and the cheapest insurance I found is 13k for a year. I didn't have any ticket and accident. It's too much. Do you think next year will be reduced a lot?
For the MC number do I just fill out the application and take it into the office or do I have to mail it? Do they send me a letter with the MC number afterwards? and how long does it take for it to get back to me?
I only transport in California, here the MC number is given by the highway patrol in Sacramento. You mail application and they’ll mail you the number. Im close to Sacramento, I dropped it off in their box.
Hi have been Following you guys for a while I’m here In Sacramento California, I’m 28 Year olds I have had my Class A license for 3 years. I’m very interested in getting into Hotshot I just have a couple questions. I always see you guys by the Altamont Pass.
I’ve been car hauling for abt 7 months and i want to start my own car hauling business I’m just tryin to get the step by step and costs to start everything please give any advice
First step is deciding on equipment. Keep in mind your insurance the first year will be expensive. Then decide if you’ll transport intrastate or interstate multiple states.
@@JohnDoe-gc1kt Yes and No.. auctions are open 7 days a week but most dealerships want deliveries during the week. You could pickup at auction Sunday and deliver Monday. Small car lots may allow weekend deliveries. Recovery locations are closed on weekends.
Thank you for the insight i do have a few questions what kinda truckdo you have i was thinking using a Chevy Silverado 2500 or 3500 also what kinda trailer and how profitable weekly
I have a 2016 Dodge 5500 and a 2017 Kaufman Ez4 trailer. I bought both used 4 years ago, I’ve been car hauling for 3 years with this equipment. In the beginning it can be difficult to get loads, some brokers require 3 months experience. Being self employed you get out what you put in, work hard it pays off.
Q. I have a class c license and I want to get a 2 car hauler just to pick up cars at auction and take back to my shop, Is my Class C valid to tow 2 cars.
Hi there rios auto transport for payments how do you get paid. And how long does it take to get your money for the cars you delivered in that day thansk.
Hello, direct customers I receive a check at delivery or 2-3 days in the mail. Some brokers pay cash or will send check or deposited in account 10-30 days.
It’s a few steps but not difficult, if you’re in California and doing intrastate. In video how I started car hauling it has the websites and paperwork in order. Let me know if you have questions.
Hi Rios! I'm about to start a hauling hotshot company. I already have the LLC. Nonetheless, I'm missing the rest needed to start rolling which I'm taking care of. I don't want, for the time being, to buy a fifth wheel base truck but I'm thinking of getting the 3500 RAM and being a local driver. Regarding the money, I'll have to ask for small business loan (it's my only option). Now the questions: 1 - Which hauling has a better return (car or, for example, building materials using a 40 ft ghost neck flatbed trailer)? 2 - How and where should I look for a broker what are the requirements to find a good broker? 3 - Is it a good idea to start using apps that do have loads and later look for a broker or have from the first day a broker? Thanks and hope to hear from you sooner.
1.) I only haul cars. In the area you live is there a lot of car lots, dealerships and auctions? Is there freight in your area? Do you know anyone in your area hauling freight? 2.) Cars - Central Dispatch Freight - Truck stop (I’ve heard 3.) When starting you want loads period. Brokers list in Central Dispatch and Truck Stop.
@@riosautotransportllc I need to do some research on it. Have seen lots of hotshots hauling cars. I know for sure that I have a huge junk yard close by but never paid attention to it.
I bought mine used with a gooseneck, I bought a fifth wheel and had it installed. You might be able to find a used truck with a fifth wheel but most likely you’ll have to have one installed.
@@riosautotransportllc I just got a crazy quote for insurance. Did you lease while waiting for your MC to go through? Do you think leasing is a good option for someone just starting out?
I really want to start a car hauling business. I live in florida, and i have a 2006 ram 3500 diesel that i own. I just need a trailer. I have money to start. I just need guidance..
No you have your CDL? Would you be comfortable with 3 - 4 cars to start? If you don’t have a CDL you’ll need to stay under 10,000 pounds for your trailer and cargo (cars).
My setup required a Class A (Commercial license). You also need a DOT number, Motor Carrier number (if going multiple states) and a CA number if in California.
Two questions do you need your cdl for a two car hauler?? And if your get your dot number and authority but not use it for 6- months to a year. Does that help out to get a lower quote on insurance??
No you don’t need your CDL for 2 cars as long as your trailer and load is under 10k pounds. Yes if you have your DOT and insurance go through the scale occasionally it will help. Insurance is very expensive the first year but mine went down to $5400 second year.
Hello , is it a email I could contact y’all to ask a more in depth question about car hauling? Im based out of Florida with cdl and was wanting more info on actually getting everything together
@@riosautotransportllc sweet thanks, my first question I have is. When you went for your llc, dot#, mc# , ca#, do you have to specify what you want to haul? Or can you haul pretty anything you want, if you have the trailers for it. Question two is about insurance, does hauling cars have specific insurance, or would I be able to haul any type of freight as long as the policy covers the cost of freight?
@@caligrown2460 Yes when you apply for your DOT number you need to specify what you’ll be transporting. Insurance is specific too, if you want to do additional items it’s a additional fee. If your insurance is for cars it will cover cars only. If you have two trailers Vehicles & freight both need to be insured.
@@riosautotransportllc how did you figure out, how much coverage you needed when starting car hauling, I’m seeing people saying at least a 300k coverage. Is that a good number or to much?
If i want to haul 3 car with a 3500 dodge starting, do you think ill be profitable? I already applied for the dodge and qualified looking to buy the trailer cash. Thoughts? payment on truck would be $1,520
I can help you with any questions you have throughout the process. This video does have screen shots of websites for DOT, LLC and authority you’ll need.
@@riosautotransportllc I’m in Sacramento area just applied for LLC and going to be doing DOT & MC next. The LLC was getting me confused though cause it was saying I have to apply for foreign LLC in different states if I end up going across states?
Hey Mr Rios my name is Jose and i live in California i have a few questions for you if can answer for me what size trailer do i need to get to haul 2 cars im interested in an enclosed trailer also one that i dnt have to chk in wth dot or scales if tou kniw what i mean
For non CDL you need to be under 26k GVWR total (truck and trailer). You can’t haul more than 10k in cargo. To get insurance you need a DOT number, DOT numbers are required to be displayed on truck. DOT requires you to drive in scales. I was told by Progressive that insurance can see how often you drive in scales. That said your insurance may be cheaper after first year. If you maintain your equipment and stay within your weight limits you’ll have no issues at the scales. I have lots of videos to help you do both.
Nothing wrong with 40 foot with gooseneck. Before you buy a trailer find out what the trailer is capable of, will you be comfortable using it for that? Examples.. only small cars or one truck with only one small car or?
I live in Central California I have a 3500 hd dually & 2 vehicle 5th wheel trailer with 12lb winch and need information what are the best dispatches to get started with Any information is greatly appreciated thank you.
@@riosautotransportllci joined super dispatch Whats your take on super dispatch? Ill join central dispatch as well and yes I just had a few hundred business cards made out to take to dealerships all round my the area.
ive been driving in the oil&gas industry for 13 yrs and come to realize there's no growth for drivers and need to move on. Like you I need to get past the cold feet! But the information you gave me reassured me im going in the right direction. Thank you
