I just started cooking on RU-vid a few months ago, I think I'm doing great, but don't know what to do now!! I'm so stressed, because I don't use a camera, I use my cell phone and have poor lighting but don't know where to start, I'm not good with the computer, I do my own editing on my phone!! I put my heart and soul into what I do because I love it...I've been praying about this, then I found you!!! Thank you sooo much for your help! I've subscribed to you.

I have been contemplating starting a blog, but I was like, who is going to want to see a blog from a 60 year old. But I guess no matter the age if your content is good people will engage. Hi Arlene! I am so glad to hear you feel motivated to do it! I am turning 49 in June and I feel this was one of the best things I could have ever done for myself. It's been challenging and rewarding at the same time. The more you do it, the better you will get at it. I am going to give you the link to a friend who started her channel after retirement, skyrocketed and she is in her 60's! Making more than she ever had in her life. And she just started it to keep busy after retirement. Simple channel and little other social media. I met her when she was at 5k or so in following and look at her now. So glad I found this. Just started my channel about a month and a half ago. Also started it as a way to distract myself. Mom of 3 with a full time job, i have been in and out of hospital with my youngest who was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer when he was 11months old. We've been through chemos and 3 brain surgeries and my Miracle Boy now 3 is holding strong. It's a safe space where I do not think of MRI scans and blood results. Thanks for the encouragement.

Hey there! Just want you to know this video was very encouraging. I too just quit my corporate job to stay at home with my autistic daughter. I already had a RU-vid channel that I started a couple years ago to share my breast cancer journey, then I transitioned to healthy food videos. Once I quit working, I realized I needed to get a little more serious about blogging and RU-vid so I’m just now building me a website to go along with my RU-vid channel. I’ll be launching it this month! I found your video tonight, after getting discouraged but your insight and positivity was so helpful. Thank you so much. I just subscribed! You may not be the biggest blogger out there, but you are one of my biggest inspirations. The fact that you're NOT the biggest blogger, that you're still developing your style/method, that's what I like about you. My current videos are terrible. I know it. But I had to start somewhere and I used what I had (which was a GoPro 5 Session and a $50 camcorder). I quickly learned that I needed better equipment and have spent the last month acquiring it. Now that I have it, I'm ready to take on stage 2 of my video creation journey. One thing that has me struggling though, how do you plan a complete video shoot? I ran into this while editing. I wouldn't have the right shots, transitions were bad because I didn't plan for them, and I couldn't go back because I had already made the dish and used up the ingredients. I'm not looking for an answer, I'll figure it out. But you gave me a small piece of the answer in this video. Thank you. I look forward to more of your inspiration :)

Hi! So, I honestly don't plan my shoots. What you see me cook is literally what we are having for lunch, dinner or snack. Before I set up my lights, I always take all my ingredients out and have them lined up in the order I am going to use them. I have been doing this since I learned to cook when I was younger. This habit has been helpful. After I have all my ingredients ready, pots out, etc. I set up the lighting. Depending on the style I am shooting, I set up the camera. The easiest is always overhead. I shoot putting all the ingredients in, stirring and stop for any downtime in cooking because I don't want to have a huge file when it comes to editing time and that is super annoying. If I am shooting the cooking from the sides, I like to move the camera (or iPhone) from one side to the other while I cook. Soi I may start cutting the onion with camera on the right, stop and then shoot from the left and even move it again to the right. During editing I cut it together and it looks like I shot with more than one camera. I may do a video on that too. I think it could be useful. Was I able to answer your question? I hope so!

@@BelquisTwist Yes, that was very helpful. I just bought some oxtail today. Who knew it was so expensive and hard to find! Almost $7/lb where I live...and I'm in cattle country! Anyway, I'm going to film the making of a slightly modified version of your recipe, in a pressure cooker. Hopefully it will come out as good as your recipe looks. :)

I used iMovie when I started and slowly transitioned to Adobe Premiere Rush $9.99 USD a month. But there are other free ones out there. On your phone, look for Videoshop app and a new one I just found Jumprope. This last one is awesome!

Great advice! We’re now a month into our blog. For years, we’ve posted our food on our personal Facebook pages, and our friends finally convinced us to make the jump into blogging. We’re having a blast learning everything you mentioned. The first affiliate rejection was tough, and then came the second, third, fourth… OUCH. Firstly you are beautiful, I was Aww when you said that you are 46 because I thought you are in your early 30's and I mean it. Secondly your video is of a great help for people who are planning to start a you tube channel, you really shared great tips, really appreciate it. I had shoot 2 or 3 recipe videos just for fun and was planning to start a you tube channel but couldn't as they were not shot really well.. and I didn't knew how to edit them. Could you also make a video on how to edit videos and talk about some free and paid video editing websites.

I was so scared to start and I would procrastinated and get stuck only doing research which is important but I was using research to put off starting, I also would second guess myself and thought I needed fancy equipment, but then I just decided to just jump in and start just using my cell phone. Any suggestions on how to make one, and which video editor is best for a beginner? You have earned a subscriber. Your videos were very helpful.

I am very happy to hear this video was helpful! I started with iMovie but now I use Adobe Premiere Rush. Very much like iMovie but has more capabilities and great fonts, transitions. So glad I made the move. And it's been easy to learn too. I also watched a few RU-vid videos on how to use it before I edited my first one. When it comes to intros, Canva.com now has RU-vid intros but I think you have to have the Pro version to have access to them. The free version is more limited. When I started, I had an intro that I got at the link below. They sell packs that are pretty cool and you edit on programs like Adobe After Effects, which is the one I used. But they take up a lot of space on the computer and are really hard to learn. I had a ton of frustrating days editing them. If you look at my recent episode openings, you'll see the intro I now use made on Canva. Hi! Thank you for watching! It becomes easier once you get more and more into it. RU-vid was instrumental in me learning about blogging in general and FB food blogging groups. I still feel like I have so much to learn after 2 years of this. It's a lot to take in. So I go one day at a time and try not to be hard on myself. I see my growth when I look back at many of my early episodes. I believe that it's all about just going for it and figuring it out while you are there. :-)

Hi! I don't use color correction for my videos. I use Adobe Premiere Rush to edit and I shoot in a well lit area. But I do know that you can color correct in Premiere Rush and also add some filters too. I hope I was helpful!

Hi! Thank you for watching! In this video I am using "Pixel 6 Channels UHF Wireless Lavalier Microphone Photographic and Recording Microphone for SLR Camera amzn.to/327SwB6" I was shooting this with my Canon DSLR. I always shoot my video first and then I write my blog. I don't use a service to transcribe. If you look at my website, I am so not a writer. I don't like to write long drawn out articles. I try to share a small snippet about why I am sharing this recipe and recommendations, ingredient substitutions if I think it will help the reader. Instead, I share the video link in the post because I want them to watch it, not read too much. Embedding the RU-vid video on the post also helps me get more views on youtube so it's a win win. ;)

I had to by a new computer because my old one was to slow, something about the PHP for Wordpress being too slow for it. It's been a learning curve. Sorry for the delayed reply. I have never done guest posts to boost traffic on any of the platforms. I am approached but I feel that then I am losing my voice. I want people to know that they are always just getting me unless I am doing a collaboration in which I cook with another content creator. That is very helpful.

Thank you for your words! Although you see me confident on camera, I am everything but. It is hard for me to show myself. It's getting easier with time. It's like a muscle that you have to exercise. I suggest you go for it. People will love you for you, for who you are. Let them see you. I would never show myself without makeup and lately, on FB, IG I decided that I need to accept that the real me is enough. It has to be. I have accepted myself, it's still hard but I am happier than showing myself always at my best. Now followers get to see me in all my different facets.
