It is so wonderful to see all you young ladies being natural. We I was young it was doing segregation times. To get into the work force we had to have straight hair. We had to look more like white people. They didn't accept us how we looked. You girls are blessed. Be free and be yourselves. Be bless 🙏
When i stopped relaxing my hair in the eaely 2000s, there weren't many women, including children wearing afros but I noticed at my church that all the little girls had afros and puffs. That made me smile.
It's wonderful that you always wear your 4c fro out. So many people say we can't wah and go. But I think a lot of us just have a problem with how our hair looks in it's most natural state, which is fine, but there isn't anything we can't do. I feel like your routine is so simple and easy. It seems freeing honestly. And your hair is growing. Natural hair is as hard as you make it. The farther what you prefer is from what you have, the harder it will be to maintain. I like braidouts, buns, and twists so it takes more effort than what you do. I've been wanting to just rock my shrunken fro sometimes and you've inspired me to just do it. (Btw, not trying to offend anyone for their styling preferences)
Back in the day when I wore a fro in high school and college in the late seventies, we would braid the hair every night and unbraid in the morning, and pick it out. We also kept it shaped up by going to the barbershop about once every two months. The wind was not your friend, since if your fro was soft, the wind could mess up the shape.
Your absolutely such a gorgeous woman from the inside out until your literally glowing. I love how you encourage other women’s to be themselves💕♥️ with your breath taking beautiful hair💐💐💐👀
I’m so glad I found you, even if it’s late. Maybe you can tell by my picture but I have about your skintone and an unruly afro. It’s not just the texture, but the amount of it even surprised my Congolese relatives whenever they do my hair. Whenever I see tutorials and stuff I’m just like “if only I had that gorgeous melanin, I wouldn’t stand out as much in public.” And when I search mixed girls they usually just have curls that I WISHED I had. You have no idea how relieved I am to have seen you, seen how beautiful you are and how gorgeous that fro looks against your skintone. I know I don’t need confirmation or anyone else’s opinion, but I’m a bit more accepting of myself and view myself more as unique rather than “a mix gone wrong” which I saw myself as for most of my life. 💜💜💜
It's so freeing to be able to just wake up and just go. I love wearing out my fro and enjoying how healthy it is now. I used to be scared to leave the house without doing twist outs and stressing over length. Watching your videos helped me a lot.
I wear an afro and I love the freedom it gives me and it saves me tons of money. I can get it wet and not fret that my hair is ruined. And when I shampoo it in the morning I let it dry and let it fly. When it comes to my scalp, my afro has been a total game changer for me. No more itchy scalp, curious white edges, or flaky scalp. When I would get a relaxer my scalp was a nightmare.
For a while I have really been insecure about my 4c hair and watching your videos has been a confidence booster for me. So I just want to say Thank You Joy-el😍
How is your afro so beautiful and round? I am an afro person too and I love it but my hair does not stand up. Unlike your hair, my hair is 4A, medium density and fine so it droops. I don't care about curl definition but my hair is naturally coily, like finger coils which makes my afro untidy. Your afro is just gorgeous: thick, healthy, fluffy and beautifully round.
My hair is the same way! I was obsessed with curl definition when I big chopped but when I got out of the twa stage, it just flopped. It's so thin! When I comb out all the coils it just looks see through. Sigh.
I also have type 4a 4b and a the back of my hair is 3c but my hair is supper thick. But every time I try a fro it doesn’t work. Ooh and a tip try rice water with pepermunt oil for thickness and length. Try is for 3 or 5 day 1 a moth because you don’t want protein overload :)
"I just let the steam - DO it's thing!" I love it! Simply put, your videos are always entertaining, instructional, inspirational and just a JOY to watch. Thanks.
Lol! I love that you said, “get outta my bubble!” I say all the time, if I swing my arm as I twirl around and I hit you, you were to close anyway. So your comment is appropriate. Your hair is gorgeous. Love your fro.
Thank you for being a type 4 kindred spirit! I’m over 60, so of course I remember Afros the first time around. 😉. I too dislike a lot of manipulation and don’t try to make my hair other than what it is. People often ask “what are you going to do with your hair?” I’m like, “ you’re seeing it!” BTW, got my big logo “untamed and unashamed tee.” ❤️
Exactly, get out of my hair bubble!!!!!!!!!!! I have a small Afro, my morning routine is revitalize with a little water from a spray bottle, had a little product and shape with hands or tool. Love it, beautiful!!!!!!
Just found this channel 3 minutes ago...love your hair! Love your attitude 😂😂. Now I’m going to search your vids to see if you ever defined your curls so I can see those too but this fro is LIFE!!! Power to the type 4’s!!!
It's beautiful Joyel. It also look like you are wearing a helmet. How unique. My 4c is also totally different from yours. It's way pass my bra strap but shrink to my ears when it comes in contact with H2O so I have to strench it to prevent detangling. And also loves to be left alone sometimes. So it's all about knowing your hair and doing what it wants. Stay bless sis.
I've been doing your shower steam method daily for the last few days and my hair really likes it! So glad I recently found your channel! You are lovely and amazing!
Also look at the softness of your afro I love afros. I have one too! LOL The funniest thing is when your pick it all out and it's raining or you have to put a hoodie on.
I can't tell you how much I love watching your videos and just smile because I feel so represented. Also def gonna this technique for applying product thank you!
You are such a beautiful soul inside and out! You are literally inspiring self love ...through hair acceptance! Thank you for being such a bright light! I have fallin in love with your message and your channel! Blessings!!!
Yasss. I was thinking the same thing. Why do so many of us spend so much time and money a On enhancing our curl pattern? I love your fro. That my hair goal lol.
How do you prevent your hair from shrinking? It seems as though your hair is great at keeping the full shape with little to no shrinkage. When you said the natural hair journey doesn't have to be difficult you were speaking directly to me. I get so frustrated with wash day and just wind up leaving my hair in twists underneath a hat all of the time. But I didn't go natural to keep my hair underneath a cap. So thanks for sharing that. I will begin to wear my afro a lot nor often now.
It does shrink a bit throughout the day and especially on wash days. But I think because I don't drench my hair everyday and add leave in almost daily, the continued moisture may have a hand in keeping it from shrinking down so much. I think I'll do a video where I track my shrinkage over the course of a day! That would be interesting 😁 And yes! Wear your glorious afro out! It's so unique and worthy of being worn 👑
I hope Joy-el don't think I'm being a hater or mean, because I responded to someone who was comparing their hair to Joy-el's on a previous video, but you all do realize that Jo-el's biracial, right? Her hair doesn't shrink as much which is why her fro looks awesome most of the time. I do a similar routine as she does, but when i get in the shower, i have to have my hair in twists or plaits, because any bit of moisture will cause my hair to shrink like crazy. Biracial ppl's hair, whether it's 3c or 4c, doesn't shrink as much due to their other race/ethnicity. Most black ppl with 4c hair experience drastic shrinkage, because we are "just black", meaning we have two black parents. Nonblack ppl's hair for the most part doesn't shrink, while most black ppl's hair does, especially type 4, so having two black parents, makes shrinkage highly likely for us. When I watch Joy-el's videos, i watch it knowing not to compare my hair to hers completely. I hope more black women with 4c hair embrace the afro like she does, and hope she helps inspire them to do so, because Joy-el's the only one really rocking her afro on these youtube streets lol
@@byoung4eva1 Thank you for saying "most black ppl" because I have two black parents and my afro does not shrink when I wet it...when it's really dry it shrinks and appear smaller and is stiff as a board but I wet my hair it comes to life. I have type 4 hair.
byoung4eva1 You know what, I honestly keep forgetting that she’s biracial and you are right. Her hair won’t shrink like the typical 4C chick. If my hair even sees one drop of water it will shrink to the size of a canteloupe. But thanks so much for pointing that out because it makes total sense.
im transitioning (5 mo) and you just made me rethink the styles i want to do when i fully transition. I HATE spending so much time styling my hair. Its nice to have another alternative voice on you tube than just do this style...this style...this takes the pressure off!
girllll, i'm 4c and my afro morning routine is the same! the only thing is that i put the leave in and oil only if my hair feels dry, otherwise i would spray just a little bit of warm water
Joyel you are such an Inspiration. I love your promotion of kinky undefined hair. And please I'd love to hear u rant more about this 🤣 do you detangle your hair? At all? Or just wash and let it do its thing? You've inspired me to wear my fro again I'm just worried ahiht breakage. Thoughts?
Wow what us said. This is literally the reason I wish to this day I had this hair. I just wanted to get up. Put some moisture to it and Go with the Fro! I wish so much I could get my double puffs. U had me trying again the other day when u did the double puffs. But ibhad to tease my hair so much. It came out cute. But definitely not effortless 😏. Oh well. Love u girl. As usual your hair is everything!
I’m all for appreciating black beauty etc and I don’t fetishize mixed people (what I’m basically saying is don’t come for my throat for admiring her beauty). Anyway, I think you’re very pretty and I’m glad you embrace your type 4 hair. It’s crazy we usually see the “curly haired, light eyed” mixed people and that’s usually what people go crazy over. But beauty comes in all shapes and forms, I love the natural hair movement and I hope someday having type 4 hair isn’t deemed unattractive.
It looks soo good i wanna look at it all-day I live in a place where the only” beautiful” hair is silk straight so girls always do straightening treatment and i hate it soo much I love your hair I wish I could see more of it around me
You are gorgeous! Love your videos and your magnificent fro! You go girl! I enjoy wearing my fro at times as well! New sunburn here!👌🏾🙏🏾🌹Blessings & Love!
This steam method works so well. 😘😘 I tried using the spray bottle method before put on moisturizer but it didn't seem to work for me. 😒😒 My main question is: can I use hairfood and moisturizer on my hair for maintainance and styling?
Hey this is an awesome revamp video. I was wondering, would you make a video of how you create your fro on your actual wash day? My hair texture is similar to yours and that would be really informative! You may already have a video about this, but I couldn't find it. Thanks and have a great day!
Hi. This video is exactly what I needed to hear. I decided to remove locs and go natural and I was told I have to douse my hair in products to have “health natural curls”. The soundingly simple wash and go with 20 steps is not something I want to do for 3 or 4 days of curls.
look at your hairrrr ugh the growth is amazing!! if i had your hair type i would wear my afro everyday. i have a looser texture i think like your sister's and i like definition so i can get it pretty high but it does like to droop. the only way i can get it real high is in a puff and as it gets longer it droops more but i dont mind it i like seeing the length as well. anywayssss youre beautiful and thank you for sharing your journey and putting this message out there i think my hair grew the fastest when i literally was putting no products in it back in high school 😂😂 go figure
I just have to say that your voice is sooooo damn cute. Im falling in love with it. And watched some of your vids and gosh you are the cutest, kindest sweetest ever. You are a rare diamond.
