Dave’s been very generous… he was so strong, especially at the end when I’d cracked. Did huge turns on the front and always with a smile on his face. 👍nice one mate, you and Walter made it the best event I’ve ever ridden.

This event looks well organized and supported by the friends, fans and community. Thanks for making us aware of this awesome event.

congratulations - managed 8:02 -my first time. including walking up the steepest parts of Hardknott and Wrynose. agree with those downhill observations - tiring on the hands/arms. mananged to get onto some fast groups in the first part, but got a bit lonely later on - started at 6:22 after Wrynose was effectively solo all the way back... Amazing support all the way around

Can imagine the pride. Congrats on the accomplishment. Speaking about going deep.. couple weeks ago i was riding with riders way faster then me. Drafting most of the time then coming up on the 1k 4-5% climb. And i managed to keep the wheel riding it way faster then i ever did. When i knew i was gonna make it i almost cried of pride (and pain) holding the first wheel steady. I wasnt able to dig into sprints up until now just to recover from it lol.

Nice video David and well done on the time! Met you at the finish line and as I said then, surfing your wheel for the last 15 miles or so at that awesome speed through the Langdales and Ambleside was the best experience I've ever had on a bike! Thanks for the tow, sorry my legs couldn't help out! Greg 👍👊

Looks like a fun ride; beautiful scenery, lots of support and so many folks cheering you on! I'm half a world away, so never likely to do this one, but I'm sure I'd enjoy all of it bar the hard-knock pass which does look quite steep indeed. I ride a similar event out here in California (Death Ride), so I'm sucker for these kinds of pain-fests. Congratulations!

Great video! I did the Fred for the 5th time this year, left calf cramped up badly on the first, steepest part of Honister Pass, recovered, then was fine for the rest of the ride until Hardknott where I just managed to dismount in time as another bout of cramp started so walked all of the very steep sections & to the summit. After that it was relatively plain sailing back to Grasmere. I've marshalled on two occasions, 2019 & last year so I'll probably marshall next year instead of riding.

I think most people over 50 and 70kgs would be pushing up some of those hills cripes. Weather looked nice 🌻😊. Best to do these events with the organisation of medical support and maintenance than just going out alone I think. Kudos David for staying on up the Knott on a disc braked bike when many on lighter rim brakes bikes were pushing. So much negativity around disc brakes it's good to see a positive.

I must say I was always keeping something in the tank and my big 36 on the back for Hardknott . There was lots of traffic loads of people pushing I flew over the cattle grid with a guy 5metres in front of me he was now committed on the left hand first steep bit he made it over half then he unclipped . I shout but it was to late I had to un clip . I walked the second steep bit . Then got back on to go over the top . Hardknott I will be back 1 day soon and I will video it !!! 👍🏼

@@logohigh1 really you can get a cheap 34 cassette, and use a compact chain ring set. 50/34. the large chain ring should be what you dont have because you never use it unless you like to pedal hard at 40 plus miles an hour which for most of us would be down a mountain. even pro's only average 25-30mph and only some of those pro's use the fastest gears for sprinting. so your set up should at least be compact and therefore the only thing youll need is a cheap 11-34 cassette and a new chain dura ace is 40 bucks. road bikes with 52 or 53 rings is antiquated. and then if 34/34 ratio isnt good enough then the sub compact are an option. on your next group ride no one is going to out gear you if they have a 53 vs your 50.
