Bro... this video was so good! I’m going into my first year of Civ engineering with an iPad Pro, and could not ask for a more comprehensive video. Everything was so well explained and in depth. Keep it up man!🤛🏽
Wish I has this type of video when I started uni in 2018 because personally, I would’ve bought an iPad from the get-go. Glad I can help my civil engineers too cheeee
@@dylanbrunning Yeah throughout my whole first year I used the iPad for note taking. I needed to sell it a few months ago, but I really wish I could have kept it. I was actually motivated throughout the whole year to take notes and I think this is what made me so productive. Compared to my first semester this year, my productivity has fallen so much now that I'm writing on paper. I would also like to think that I was the influence that made some of my classmates get an iPad too :). I really want to get another iPad in the future when I can. I think for first year you really just have to try and stay consistent with your work rate, and I think this is just so much easier if you build a routine in how you take notes, but you also just have to keep your work well organised to do so.
I love how you actually talk about how to take notes from different lectures instead of the general 'copy and paste' note taking. Very great and detail work. Keep it up! ❣️
watched first 3 minutes, and it instantly resonated with me! soon-to-be 2nd year engineering student from the University of Waterloo looking to change things up based on what I've learned in 1st year to better my grades and be a better student overall. all my notes were handwritten, so i was lugging around 7 binders for my 7 courses, but uh, that might not exactly be the route i wanna take going into classes in about a month. looking forward to the rest of the vid !
I'm a 60 year old lady that only finished highschool . Young man I would gladly go to college if you were guaranteed to be my teacher. Great job explaining.
this is the best ever review for me [ because im an engineering student too ]. in lectures i still use handwritten notes bcs it realy does help and effective for me when im trying to take in those concepts from the lecture and when im revising or organazing my notes i used my macbook and i use the active recall and spaced repetition and i can say it's really very effective for me. i've seen a lot of videos regarding ipad on taking notes but most of them were medical students and i have enough those i needed to find a review of someone who's taking the same major like me, so i can see a perspective that i can literally relate on. and i am glad that this video is the one that i chose! thanks man, i''ll definitely gonna try the ipad, i think it's very worth tryinng
its nice to hear that you can take exams on tablet. When I used iPad 2 way back for home work, professors want us to print out the PDF questions, But I wrote on Notability then print out. Most professors was very confused and had to question their decision for minutes before accepting my hand in.
Such helpful video. Gave me some confidence towards my coming year2. Hope I am able to keep up and exchange a PERFECT summer using my hard work in university.
Amazing video! I really like the classy background music. Makes it nice to listen to. Great information and I liked how you organized your content with timestamps. Keep up the good work!
It was very useful, thanks a lot. I’m in my first year of Engineering at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and thinking about getting an iPad and which would go better for me💟
This is an excellent "How to Study" or "Best Study Practices" video...one excellent tip after another! The iPad was largely just a prop to highlight your excellent study disciplines. Going into my last year of Electrical Engineering and wish I had your excellent suggestions from day one! Maybe reorganize the "meat" of the video and focus on maximizing learning, study, and memory retention...then upload that video with different title and key words and see how the algorithms like it?
That’s a shout actually... I’ve had thoughts of doing that but, I feel I’d be repeating myself? No sure about how others would feel about that, but reorganising in a unique way🤔 I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks for the idea and comment Neil😋🤝
@@aldrichcervania8833 No problem! Maybe if it was a list format..."5 Things to Make You a Study Beast" or something...it would be same ideas but in captivating format. WatchMojo.com and Charisma on Command uses lists all the time. Something like this video is what I think might work for a reorg of your study tips. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Takobi8jsEI.html
Hi thanks for this hehe. My father OFW bought me iPad pro 11 inch since April 2020 but actually due to pandemic, my father cant go home due to quarantine here in PH. Now, still stuck up and unopened box but my father will go home in december. thannks to this, I save to my playlist
Family first of course🙌 I hope your dad can come home soon safely. The iPad can wait😉 I appreciate you saving this on your playlist for future reference🔥
I started university in the social sciences where typing on a laptop was the most efficient but now that I’ve transferred into stem I noticed within only a couple of classes that I was going to need an iPad 😅
Did school from home and used my desktop in conjunction with my Hp spectre x360 to take notes. Now thats its in person, I cannot no longer use the spectre x360 like it I did at home. Bought an Ipad pro. Will be using onenote to take notes.
What is his accent, sounds cool. Listening to it for a long time is a bit tedious though. No complaints, just wanted to know is it only me or others who feel the same way.
Hi. Which iPad should I go with? I can buy an iPad air 5 for $370 and 12.9” m1 iPad Pro for $620. (Both are used and I have a macbook air as well.) My main usage will be note taking, reading news, papers, articles, watching youtube videos and mostly for the educational purposes.
i made the mistake of not taking any notes during my two years in school, so im gonna use this third year to try to catch up before they take me out the classes for good lol
Great question! I only had a couple of assignments in 2nd year which required me to use CAD software, and I always used either my laptop or the uni computers. And it was WAY before I bought an iPad😅 So to answer your question… I’ve never personally used CAD on the iPad so I wouldn’t know BUT, I know that CAD is capable on the iPad but it’s more ideal on a computer or laptop for collaborative reasons. Also in industry, I believe you’ll be using PC’s or laptops anyway, so it’s good to focus on mastering CAD on those machines :)
I can’t imagine running SolidWorks or Inventor Pro would be ideal on an IPad. My laptop used to run older versions of SolidWorks fine but 2022 has been giving it trouble. Now I refuse to do any CAD modeling on anything other than my gaming PC. That being said, try it and let us know how you fair.
Great question mate. Unfortunately it does😞 it’s because of the added friction of the screen protector. I write quite hard naturally, so it started to nib after just a month lol
Hi! I used my ipad mini 5 as my note taking device but eventually stopped - problem with retention and size. I switch back to paper again. I see that you are not using paperlike (or i jut missed it). How's the retention with the bigger ipad? I am still planning to buy the pro to use as my daily driver but worried about "retention issue". I normally write things to remember them. So my question is - how's the retention on the bigger ipad even without the paperlike?
Is onenote a good alternative if I need a note app to work along side with a computer really well? I was just wondering bc I’m going to major in mechanical engineering next fall.
I am also going into engineering and I am deciding between MacBook and Ipad for my secondary computer. When your in math or science classes did you ever have to code in class? Cause that's the only thing holding me back from buying a iPad
For my degree (Mechatronics and Robotics) I had many assignments which involved coding. If you cannot code on your primary computer, I’d recommend getting a laptop over an iPad.
@@wasimahmood8264personally, I’d still get a laptop tbf. My main reasons are portability and convenience. Although your uni should have computers for you to access and do your coding assignments, the portability of a laptop is valuable in uni (flexibility to code literally anywhere, and to work in teams). Thinking about it now, all of my course mates have laptops
@@lukepinapple Aerospace! That means you’re doing a module where you learn about 1st order systems/PID control and that. My cohort has memes for that module😂 also congrats on getting an iPad! You must be gaaassed😤
How do you manage not getting tired by writing always on an ipad. I mean the light from the ipad to your eyes doesn’t bother if you study for a long time?
Honestly, that is a great question! Even when I was using paper, I would ALWAYS take breaks. When I’m using the iPad, I have a matt screen protector, I use the true-tone feature, and I don’t use high brightness. Still, the iPad is a pleasure to use. Personally, I’ve never had a screen fatigue issue. But then again, I always take breaks anyway, and I always make time to do others things that doesn’t involve looking at a screen. Hope this helps! Got any more questions? :)
If it’s mainly for note taking at university, the bigger screen size is beneficial for multi-tasking which happens all the time. I’ve got a mate who has the 11” size and says it’s calm! I recommend going to your nearest apple store so you can get the true experience of a smaller or bigger size :)
Hey Aldrich! I'm starting university this September studying mechanical engineering and I'm really confused about what laptop to get to run all the heavy CAD/ SOLIDWORKS/ MATLAB software. Do you have any suggestions? Also, what laptop do you use?
Ay you good! I have a HP spectre 13inch x360 Core i7, 8GB RAM, 2017 model, and I’m able to run MATLAB easily and do light CAD work. For heavy CAD work in Solidworks, it’s recommended that you have at least 16GB of RAM, an SSD drive (Most laptops have SSD storage nowadays), and a 3.3 GHz processor [I’m referring to here: www.solidworks.com/support/system-requirements ] You can either go for Windows or Apple depending on your preference. Also consider your budget, but generally, most laptops should be fine running matlab but, it’s the CAD stuff that requires more computer power. Not sure which laptops to recommend but, I’d look at the M1 MacBook Air, or the Acer Swift 3 first🤝
Hey! I'm in my final year of ME, and my computer has a Ryzen 5 processor (which has surprised me, because I used to be more prone to buy an intel processor), and I have 16 Gb of RAM (which is I think just necessary to run CAD software. I used to have a computer with 8 Gb of RAM and SolidWorks crashed all the time because of the RAM, so the most important thing is the RAM!) and I also have 256 Gb of SSD and 1 Tb of HDD. This computer has worked perfectly for me and I hope this helps you make your choice!
Hi, I'm going into my foundation year for Mechanical engineering and I personally like writing notes which is why I'm learning towards the ipad however other people have recommended a laptop because of the certain softwares needed for engineering what would you recommend?
Most of my mechanical engineering friends prioritised getting a laptop due CAD software, technical report writing and group projects assessments (most of them don’t have a tablet). To stay within your budget, I’d prioritise getting a mid-range laptop (this seemed fine for my friends who do mechanical engineering) and an iPad Air (or iPad Pro 2018 model Refurbished) for writing notes and other stuff.
I recommend the 12.9 because of the bigger screen. I’ve never used the 11 inch version, but I have a mate who does and, he says it’s sick for note taking
Building up on what you said about lecturers going off too fast for undergrads to process that info, does Goodnotes have any audio recording function? Unfortunately I find myself writing notes & unable to catch up. (I am currently just using the native Notes app on the iPad)
Hi Fuad. GoodNotes doesn’t have that feature. But I believe notability does so if that feature is important to you, it’s worth considering. It wasn’t important to me because all my lectures were recorded and posted online, and when I’d get lost, I’d just refer to the recorded session :)
It would work. The biggest difference you’ll find is the refresh rate. If you don’t get the pro then your iPad will have a lower refresh rate and might feel like writing on it is a little delayed but it would 100% work
Bang on what Curtis has said. Other reviewers have stated that if you’ve never used the iPad Pro before (i.e., if you never had a previous pro model), then you won’t be able to tell the difference. Either way, you’re getting an amazing device!
I use the Paper-like screen protector. Because of that added friction, the pencil tip does wear down. Something to consider with all Matt screen protectors
I didn’t know that still. But yeah, the modules you see me do in this video is the content we do as 3rd year Mechatronics and Robotics students at the Uni of Sheffield. Not sure how it works in India but, I’m assuming if you know this content for your ‘clearing entrance exam for engineering in India jee advanced,’ that just makes you a more informed Mechatronics/control engineer😉
Most people I know own laptops. Having an iPad isn’t enough because you’ll most likely be coding in some way but, do read your modules in detail on the uni website
I’d say laptop for engineering for sure. If I could do everything on the iPad I would but, there just somethings you NEED a laptop for, like coding in different languages (my primary reason), and overall the workflow of having a mouse and keyboard is still much more efficient than a touch interface. I’d prioritise getting a laptop first, then look into different iPad options second. Overall, I think iPad is more “pleasure” than “necessary” in this context.
@@Fire-sj7jf For context, the 2-in-1 laptop (HP spectre x360 13”) that I bought back in 2018 (before uni) was the best value for me at the time. However overtime, I didn’t like the tablet performance on it, and so I looked for a tablet, hence the iPad. I suppose I could’ve bought a surface pro, but overall it would have been more expensive and for me, buying a new 2-in-1 laptop would have been a waste of money since my HP spectre was already good enough as a laptop (and I wasn’t looking for a 2-in-1 replacement). It was just that tablet element was “missing” and I feel the iPad filled that need.
i really need help asap im thinking of buying the new ipad mini 256gb as an architecture student and i dont know if i should buy it or buy another ipad PLEASE I NEED HELP ASAP
An iPad Mini 256GB costs £619 - I’d rather use that money instead towards a refurbished 11inch iPad Pro 128GB (2nd Generation) which costs £549. But up to you :)
Just one question: most of the time I download PDFs with just 1 slide per page (really bad organization, with a lot of space unused on every page); is there any app for iPad that would allow me to reorganize these PDFs in order to get two or more slides per page?
Cad softwares and simulation softwares require strong computers. You will not be able to do that on an ipad. its too much. Just invest in a gaming computer. Its good for creo, solidworks, ANSYS, matlab etc
I simply didn’t consider them since no one in uni (that i know of) used an android tablet for note taking. I’m sure there are some great android options out there tho! Just won’t find them in this video unfortunately
When they are continuously firing big words and concepts at me that are too difficult to grasp at the moment, I tend to zone out man😭 but I make a note of what it is that’s confusing so after the lecture I can have a cheeky look at the confusing parts
