Stuff we use:
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

1. Pixar formula 2. Characters 3. Confidence, Fears, Wants, afraid of what? Understand your tribe memebers. More authentic characters in their journey 4. Goal setting. Protagonist solving problem, reaching a goal. What is best one problem for them to solve? 5. World building. 6. Outline. 7. Rock bottom, character has to change tactics. 8. Climax / meet problem head on. 9. Resolution success or not we will feel satisfaction with story. BEATS act 1,2,3. LOVE

Everything and the simplicity in which she states the process. Mahalo Film Courage and when you come visit Hawaii make sure you connect with me. =)) I would love to show you around "Hawaii's Tinsel Town." We have some solid creatives here working in film that I could hook you up with for interviews.

I'm a novice in screen writing, and after reading some books, I began working on my rough draft. In my assessment, it's going really well thus far. However, I really want to learn the craft and create the very best work. I love this channel, and after watching so many of Shannan's incredible interviews, I'm now planning to take her online course next year. She's truly Phenomenal!

Everything she says in this video is everything I hate about movies. Her "beats" she describes sound just like a marvel or transformers movie. I'm working on a story right now and if I applied this method to it it would ruin it.
@Ruylopez778
@Ruylopez778 2 года назад
Opening, inciting incident, break into act 2, midpoint reversal (and/or point of no return), low point, climax - you can find all of these in Chinatown, The Apartment, The Godfather and probably every great movie ever made. Did they write them or revise them, edit them with these beats in mind? Maybe, maybe not. But we can still find them, which means they work for the audience. And if you can think of any great movies that *don't* have these beats, it's likely that what you enjoy about them is the style, direction and editing, not the writing, no? As Truby says, it isn't beats that make something dull or cliched, it's the use of derivative ideas that don't do anything creative with those beats to make them feel fresh and engage the audience. As for the MCU and Transformers, those movies are subject to endless studio notes and test screenings that weed out anything risky that may have been in the writing in the first place.
