I am not a professional hairdresser but I do have years of experience in toning my hair at home with professional products with the advice of a professional. I am in no way encouraging you to experiment with pro-products, I am just sharing a vlog-style tutorial on how I tone my own hair.
Due to isolation, I cannot visit the hair salon so to prevent my blonde hair looking brassy I use the Loreal Dialight toners to neutralize the yellowy tones in my hair.

Hi your hair is gorgeous and the lenght is great too...my question is did you start coulouring your hair when it was already long or you were colouring it and it grew the same time?? can you do a video of how you maintain your hair after colouring it to avoid dryness and how you maintain your lenght plz?? and how to do your roots...i love your video..thank you for all these tips😊

Wow I covet this creamy champagne color! No matter how ashy my hair looks when freshly colored at the salon, within one wash it returns to a dreadful brassy color. It's so sad! And you're right - purple shampoo does not cut it. I wish I had the skills to tone at home but I'm too scared. Xoxo

Her hair is not lifted enough, nor do I think she is going for a true ash tone. But if that’s your goal, your stylist may not be lifting your hair light enough, so no matter what toner they apply afterward will likely not last too long. However, if it’s gone in one wash, it’s the products you are using, so I would take a look at that. Also, I was recently tested out some purple and blue toning shampoos and conditioners, and I noticed that on very light platinum hair, the blue will give you more of that champagne tone whereas a violet will give you more of an ashy tone. Lastly hard water is a huge contributor to quick brassiness. Hope that helps!

BlackThornRose127 Very helpful! Thank you! I think my water is definitely a culprit, even though I changed the shower head and use a water-filtering system. I use Kevin Murphy products so maybe I should consider something different. Always willing to try new products! Any recommendations?

ashley elizabeth I had to do the same with my shower, we have 97% water hardness here, it’s terrible. Kevin Murphy is actually an amazing line! But hair can get used to products and not work as effectively, so I always like to have a couple in rotation. Pureology is a great brand, the Redken line she suggested is also a good one it’s very hydrating, and Olaplex from their treatment to the all the rest of the products are truly my favorite. Hydrating masks are also necessary for blonde hair. Redken’s frizz dismiss (whether that’s an issue for you or not) the mask has babassu oil which is such a hydrating ingredient, same with Davines Renaissance mask. Lastly, IGK has a product called Mixed Feeling, they are pigmented purple toning drops, and you can add them to any product you want from in shower to styling.

From my own experience, toning your hair with L'oreal Dialight is extremely fool proof. I've been doing it for years with beautiful results. As long as you get the mixture right and pick a good colour it is almost impossible to mess it up. I just apply it like you do with a mask on damp hair, no need to use a brush, let it sit until the colour developed nicely, then rinse it out and voila!

Hi Shonagh you shouldn´t at all give any explanation about your way of toning your hair especially after that viral video of teen girls bleaching their front money piece looking like the old Ginger Spice Girl all over Tic Toc, IG and RU-vid...hahaha LOL Anyway, I found it really helpful to me, I also have this balayage going on with root growth and I need to tone it down it´s also getting rusty color especially at the back....so thanks! The only question is how much of the "activator" did you use in both mixes?is it a ratio 1:1 or 1:1,5 ml ??

Haha... it’s 1 tone to 1.5 Crewe developer. So as I mentioned in the video if you took a 50ml tube of toner you would add 75ml developer to it.
