So this day got flipped a little upside down, but for all the right reasons! I was meant to take Wilfred to a competition but I got the texts of all texts and I couldn't refuse.
Carl text me to say he had a space come available for a lesson!
I also decided to do give you guys some more in-depth info on how I ride the young horses. Even if it's not going perfectly. I did a cheeky voiceover between mums banter! Really hope you found this useful.
Enjoy my lovelies!

I absolutely loved the voice over for the 4yr olds! Really interesting and educational, I can’t wait to put it into practice with my own young horses ☺️

I love “popcorn” Olivia, relaxed yet continually considering .......quote reminder - “there are only two emotions required around a horse - one is a sense of humour, the other is patience” ....loved this vlog !!

I am so thrilled that you posted this! I just got a new horse who is now 4 and I feel like our progress is so slow (but I'm also not in any rush just want to do what is right for him). My channel is all about getting him and myself back into eventing and you were a big inspiration for me to do it! I love going back and watching our progress and regret not filming myself through the years with other horses! That's amazing that you are training with Carl Hester!! I just read Charlotte's book love them 💕

It makes total sense! (I’m commenting while you eat popcorn 😂) I find that young horse Training is the less “glamorous” side of training & riding..and when we do see young horses go they seem so perfect at shows and only feature the highlights. The small daily victories are what bring the most joy when training youngsters for me. Today a 3 year I’m training went around the arena with in the trot with a little more balance! Success!!

I've found your idea of aiming for 80% so helpful and it has made my schooling and competing so much more enjoyable, it's like every ride is a victory! I still get frustrated/upset when we have our awful rides (which is inevitable), but I make a point of trying to find at least one positive, even if it's just "her walk transitions were nice today". Thank you

10 mins in and wow eagles trot !!!!!! And his cute little face bless him, thanks for replying to my message about how you give confidence to younger horses, took mine out Sunday and normally he fly bucks in new places but gave him the confidence to go more forward so he didn’t explode like a spring, I also need to focus on the good things he done when I took him to the clinic rather than worrying that he’s going to explode, just scares me and don’t want to die 😅 love your vlogs ❤️ xxx

So glad to see someone else going through similar young horse struggles. It's hard to remind ourselves to be happy with the little victories- but if we do them over and over they become habit and that is how good horses (and riders) are made! Thanks for yet again sharing your experiences with both the trials and the joys. We got this!

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSS! that was sooo amazing! I'm going to use your tips so much with my lovely 4yo mare! it was just so encouraging to see that not everything went perfectly, but it went in the right direction. I was relieved to see that it's normal for the youngsters to not always accept the bit and stay in frame (I mean we all know that in theory, but we beat ourselves up too much sometimes... at least I do) Loved the popcorn advice so much! And you inspire me to take more time with Big Daddy

It's great!!! You could really use the corners to get the back legs under and more through. So exaggerate the corners as if your nearly going to hit the wall😂! I'm not a grand pre rider by any means...but I've learned that corners are a great place to get what you wanted! Love your video's... And yes same for me...hate winter...also get SAD and hate it!!! Only love the snow...and the sunny morning sunrise...but other than that need more summer's! How long will you be in Australia for? Well done on conquering your fear...I haven't flown since I was 9 years old...I'm terrified😳😂! I'd live in Australia if I could though🌏❤️! Thank you for this honest video! It does help, as it shows us all how we can learn to ride and train. Such as inside leg, outside reign, and a little bit of inside bend using half halts. It's sooooo hard to use your reigns independently of each other when your just starting out, and on the corners it sometimes really helps to keep that inside leg, outside reign going and really getting in those corners which helps the horse put it's hinds under and shoulders lighter. I can't wait to ride again!!! I think it will just be on the next holiday for me...dog training is my real job...so don't listen to me😂🤣😂!!! Well done!!! And don't expect sooooo much of yourself...we love watching mistakes so we can learn from them...if I only showed people videos of a perfect loose lead walking, no one would learn. I use untrained dogs to show people loose lead walking, recall, leave etc. Otherwise, no one would learn a thing. Also, I get feedback from other trainers in my group that help me improve. We all need this, especially during lockdown where we are never together frequently enough. So this is the best kind of video!!! Thank you! Xxx

Oh I love how your horses get started into work. Everybody is in such a rush these days and then end up wondering why their horses are so sore, sour and arthritic by the age of 8 🙄 joey and moley are just so talented... but that is a reflection of the rider, though! Really thrilled your Carl sesh went well, too. Would love to get mine up to you for a lesson at some point!

I get the perfectionistic thing going on when people are around and I think they are watching me ride. I give lessons, run the pony club and run the stables, so I feel like people are judging me when I ride. I really need to let that go.

older video, but i have a green mare 12 yo QH who was left in the field because nobody liked her gaits and that they had to many horses in work at the time, and i'm also 12 and intermediate with my riding, though i'm good with leg and commands on flat, so i won't be jumping green horses until my trainer says i'm good enough on the trained horses. I'm also restarting 2 horses and bringing them into work and it's going well, they just need to understand picking up the canter correctly, being on the bit, and collection instead of me needing to bend toward the neck, their head being up, and them flying like race horses around the arena, do you have any tips on starting the green mare for canter since i have a small arena, and any tips to help the other two learn collection while being on the bit?

I would appreciate it lots as I need to make my rides more interesting and give G something to focus on as during winter she goes into a green bucking phase, and I feel something like this could help and distract her from it. Love the video :)

Won't Carl let you film perhaps without showing him in the vlog? Not sure how dressage diary and entries work, I event with BE and once the calendar is out for 2019 (which it is already) I plan my diary round with certain shows that are set in stone, some that are pencilled in and some that are a possibility and everything else ie. family, friends and work is planned around that :)

@hellehansen1377
@hellehansen1377 5 лет назад
Alot of trainers don’t want their sessions filmed. It’s their expertice, and you wouldn’t give it away for free if you’re good at something
@300tdavis
@300tdavis 3 года назад
@@hellehansen1377 more often than not these so called trainers you are referring to are just plain terrible at training these majestic animals. The natural horsemanship is not natural and the traditional is awful as well. That said, these so called trainers wouldn't want people to see their harsh techniques anyway for fear of backlash from viewers. People need to wake up and get an educated eye from watching the latest in science and proven evidence of what most of the training does to horses short and long term. So as the saying goes never ever send your horse to a trainer. The horse industry needs to change. In other countries in order to become a horse trainer you would need a degree and/or certificates of completion and even apprentice for several years with a master.

Kitty, yes I know but we will probably do that next year when we start properly schooling her and taking it more seriously. All we do is a bit of walk and trot with some poles and occasionally a few small cross poles as she is still immature and can’t balance herself. But we will be doing this sometime soon! Edit: just to add I do also take lessons but with a horse there with my instructor, my mum also shouts at me when in the school like Olivia’s! Xx
